Being in the hall of fame doesn't pay the bills. We hear fans talking none stop about fighters should be fighting for their legacy. Rubbish. Fighters should fight for as much money as they can to secure their and their families financial futures.

It's not just making money but also knowing how to manage it. Many of these athletes come from poor living conditions and have absolutely zero financial education, which is why they end up broke once they retire.

Legacy equals currency overtime George Foreman got the grill because of his legacy. Mike Tyson can make money off of his name because of his legacy so legacy does matter I think boxers should have unions and pension plans like all the professional athletes. Don’t even get health insurance that is criminal that they do not even get health insurance. I’m just saying compared to what other professional athletes have in terms of benefits. It is ridiculous. The boxers do not have the same benefits.

*I had 46 amateur fights. My record was 42-4 with 3-round smoker bouts, as a Lightheavy weight at 175 lbs. I had fought Golden Gloves and made Finals at Nationals. One day, I figured it out. There are two kinds of emplyment income; Income earned, and paid benefits. Athletes only receive earned income for sacrificing their bodies. At, the end. You have paid 2/3 of your earned income to promoters and managers. While you NEVER earn any paid benefits of Pension, Health Care, Profit sharing, etc. When I understood this at 28 years old. I left my amateur boxing career behind and dismissed any Pro boxing career. Despite my Camp trying to convince me otherwise. I went onto Cal State University and became a Registered Nurse*

I think Moore should write a book and inform the public about things he and others went through in those days and probably the second one, based on the success of the first, where he outlines things that go wrong in the sport and advise present boxers on how they can better take care of their business! I know promoters are very shrewed and some cruel to their fighters, but never knew that managers were also part of the problem. He does sound like an honest brother, bigups to him and good luck on his future endeavors within the boxing world... I wish he could get himself contracted to helping young fighters either as a manager or trainer. He is deserving of a Hall of Fame!

Loved it and have been around it off/on most of my life with a fair number of guys I knew who did turn Pro. I'm 100% on MM and all the ex Pro's side struggling or not. However, sometimes because of tough situations guys don't negotiate their contracts properly in the beginning and they end up on the short end. I gotta say though, it's not like you did it completely blind, because it's not like it isn't talked about, alot! Excellent fighter highly skilled , great puncher beat Holyfeild but was koed in the return. Gives credit to Foreman winning. Even George said Moorer was powerful and shook him. Yes there needs to be a super heavyweight division.

Unfortunate economics for the fighters, for sure. The wiser ones will recognize they have negotiating leverage and navigate themselves better. But I'm sure it's not easy. That said: What Michael said about the Promoters, Managers and the others not having to pay taxes on their take. That is incorrect. The boxer's tax is paid on whatever their take is (meaning the gross less all those fees) and then the recipients of the fees will all pay their taxes on their respective takes.

This man fought holyfield twice and foreman once, he should've been set for life from those fights alone. I respect boxers above any other athletes in the world, they literally risk their lives and health for our entertainment, i remember hearing about Joe Louis having made just 800k from 4 million of his purses and if you take away taxes that's only about 500k throughout his WHOLE CAREER, and joe Frazier was living in his gym when he passed, that's why I'm happy to see a few boxers that are able to maintain some of their wealth

These dudes live in the moment and don't think about their future and invest their money for it to grow or put some to the side. They know they won't fight forever nor will the money last forever but they're too busy living beyond their means trying to impress people or take care of everyone. Can't always feel bad for these guys. Money does't last for a lifetime for most.

But if you don't use your money right, you got to know how to use your money. Let it work for you all these cars and all this money. You know $10001000 jury and all kind of stuff you buy in Eva. I learned a lesson about that when I got the low suits in. I didn't do what you suppose to. Do you lose? Same thing with Boxers football players. It's not a football players that are broke professional football players. They don't have no money. That's because they didn't invest or they didn't invest right. They didn't do the right thing with their money

I just gotta say, I’m sorry to see the guy so destroyed,
    But hindsight is 20’20
And I do believe that someone does need to look out for
Boxers a little bit better, because believe it or not most of
Them are already damaged starting out, you just don’t see it
Because of their youth, and a lot of them aren’t responsible as
With any child. So it’s a shame, they do need regulation in the spot.
You gotta put that money away and not live like it’s never gonna end
Black people that make all that money up front.

That's the fighters fault for signing contracts that's not in their interest. You have promoters and managers that's fraudulent is crazy. Then when do get money you all these people around you with their hand out.
