This movie will remind me too much of the Jet Li and Jackie Chan films, with those colorful choreographies where the best of martial arts is exhibited, they jump more than 2 meters high as if it were easy to do, they throw themselves at each other one-armed, and they fight over 10 guys without getting their clothes dirty.

Kenneth Choi was the first dude in the MCU to have 2 roles, way before Michelle Yeoh or Gemma Chan. (Is there some racist reason they're only double-casting Asians?) He was in the Howling Commandos in Captain America 1, and he's Peter's high school principal in the Spidey flicks.
No canonically they are related in that teachers office you can see an image of the dude

The actress who played as Star Lord's mom is also the girl who asked Captain America for signature in the first Captain America movie

@@Devillionaire Jim Morita was an intentional choice on their part, just a fun little nod to the First Avenger (Besides, Cap does have a minor presence in Homecoming).
As for Gemma Chan, they probably wanted her because she's a good actress. Her role in Captain Marvel wasn't really noteworthy and they obviously didn't want to waste her talent.
