I was a terribly bullied child when Pokémon came out in the USA. They were my way to get out of that depressed & lonely mindset. As a teen I showed up to the local comic book store (2000s) with my Pokémon card decks (full decks, 60 cards each) at 1st I did get the occasional laugh but after taking out opponent after opponent the laughs stopped. Mind you I was one of 2 girls who showed up on those card game Saturdays😅 the mall/comic book store closed sadly but those memories were the BEST!

I still play them all at 33 so not too far off your age. You are never too old to enjoy a video game. (I also go back and occasionally watch the anime)
I am a Gen x. I love Pokemon. I use to buy my kids Pokemon games, just so I could play. I would collect Pokemon cards and say they were for my kids. I still have Pokemon cards that are almost 25 years or more old.
We had the first pokemon movie on VHS tape! There was a short film called 'pikachu's summer vacation' that played before the main film, and we probably watched that more than the full film.
The general director of the anime kunihiko iyama already gave us a canon answer why ash doesn’t age He says “I viewed the anime as a story that captured the feel of a day of summer vacation in one’s childhood of children venturing on a trip into the unknown exploring a world without parents alongside their friends and others who they engage along the way” “In the setting of the animation the main character ash is forever ten years old and the background season is forever early summer” “Sometimes it gets cold in the mountains or it could be hot, those changes happen by traveling” “Fundamentally it is forever early summer and he is forever ten years old and on top of that a day of summer vacation repeats perpetually” “This is what I hoped to create” “ a view of the world that would be ideal for children (addlibbed by me: and adults young at heart)”
Gold silver and crystal were also the only pokémon games where you get 16 badges in total which was super cool sadly I have yet to see any more pokémon games that did such a cool concept of beating all 8 gym leaders and the 4 elite to become champion in one region then to do the same in another region
@@cueball8842 ya you won’t ever see it again sadly I don’t think, they only did it because Pokémon Gold and Silver and Crystal where going to be the last games in the series
It doesn't matter how old Pokémon is, that scene in the first movie when Ash gets fossilized in the conflict between Mew and Mewtwo is always heartbreaking, especially when Pikachu starts crying.
I'm 42 and still play pokemon go. And I have my niece (11) and nephew (9) that are playing pokemon on switch. It really does bring generations together.
My husband still has a special edition Gameboy Color that has a little picture of Pikachu and Pichu on it. Our 7 year old loves playing Pokémon Yellow and Silver on it.
Torn between whether or not it would have been better to switch out protagonists in the anime for the game-canon counterparts in each series, so that we could have seen Ash age and become a badass Pokémon Master (turning up on each series because, y'know, he gotta catch 'em all)!
My mom wouldn't allow me to play pokemon. So I always felt super left out as everyone played and collected cards. However! I was allowed to buy Pokémon Snap.... I took pictures of pokemon I knew nothing about and loved every second. I could at least recognize names when all my friends talked....
I've been a pokemon fan for so long and I still am today. I watched the anime, played the games and collected the trading cards and kept them in a binder but I couldn't find anyone to play them with.
Pokemon will always be one of my favorite games. My Gameboy Advance SP was also stolen from school, and the weird part was, I didn't even bring it out at all during class hours, but disappeared when I checked when classes ended, as I wanted to play it while waiting for parents. Ever since then, I've never brought any portable game consoles anywhere. It had my completed Pokemon Ruby in it too. T_T
The scene where the pokemons cries in the french and english versions comes out of nowhere and makes no sense. In the japanese version, there's a scene when Mewtwo' mind is developped; he met a little girl who showed him what sadness and death is AS WELL as explaining that pokemon can revive humans when they cry. It was really important and was cut in the english version. This moment also made Mewtwo kind and empathic. I guess it was more important to write dialogues about Vikings than developping the main character of the movie. Bad choice Fox kids 😐
I think you mean 26 years also he technically is continuing his journey after becoming world monarch but we just won’t see it onscreen he probably will show up at some point in the new series though!
4:50: What’s surprising about Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire was that this game was released on my birthday in the US (March 19th, 2003). I was surprised when I heard this for the first time
I loved red and blue and yellow. I loved gold and silver and crystal. Played the hell out of them on my purple gameboy color with the bendy light. But man, gen III was such a formative part of my childhood. I remember the day my brother and I got ruby and sapphire, respectively. It's been 20 years and I can still recall so much about the first time I played it. God damn. Still play it on my phone every now and again. Also, pokemon pinball was pretty rad too.
I've definitely played most of the pokemon games! The original games were so great, I remember playing them on the gameboy color! This video was great.
Remember the 'secret' to get infinite master ball or whatever you had as your 5th (9th?) item by surfing with a pokemon in a very specific spot? Miss that trick!
33 and still play it and have been since Red & Blue as well (I almost always chose Charmander so I had to catch Caterpie to evolve it all the way to Butterfree to get past Brock)

Pokemon has been around for 26 years and I've seen every version from indigo when I was like 2 because I had a lot of the VHS tapes and all the way to the new one I don't think anything is going to compare to the anime that came out when I was a kid compared to now because we got Pokemon,Yu GI Oh, Digimon, shamon King, one piece, dragon ball z, Naruto, ect.
