Another terrific video Paul. Interesting info about Peat Island. I remember when I was a child my mother jokingly threatening to drop me and my siblings there if we we didn’t behave in the car on our way to my grandparents place further north.
I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I just sold my Hunter 27 but I really enjoyed the numerous coves and inlets where I would sail in and spend the night on the boat. I love watching your videos. It’s got me thinking that I would like to build a sailboat and do some more exploring. Nova Scotia has many spots where you can pull in for the night and enjoy the shelter for the evening. I have built an 8 ft pram and an 11 ft flat bottomed skiff in the past. I still have the skiff and am hoping to convert it from a row boat to a sailing dinghy this summer. Hey Paul another great vid, I am a POM and have lived here for 15 years (Green Point Brisbane Water) and have a little Shimmy 12. This was build by a guy in Sydney who shortly passed away after completion. It was built to be used as a small powered boat, I want to modify it for sailing, (need to extend the keel and purchase or make a sail kit). Maybe you can do a vid in the future on BW and I can get it out, or we can catch up etc, and make a vid on food, and wine. More than happy to talk further on email etc. Keep up the film making

We have fond memories of both the people that we cared for and our colleagues at Peat and Milson Islands Hospital. We were in our early 20's back then, we are in our 70's now. When you anchor overnight, what type and weight of anchor are you using? What length of chain do you use, and what is the mm diameter of the chain? Then what anchor warp is used?
Hi Catalina.....I now have a 6kg anchor with 7m metres of 8mm chain and 30 metres of warp. That seems like a lot for a boat that only weighs 350 kgs, but as I was washed ashore once with a 5kg anchor that badly dragged I decided to up to 6 Kg and heavier chain, Cheers Paul

There were a lot of entries in the register of deaths in the early part of the 20th century and I compared them to the admission registers. Many, many, many, in fact most names were not those of admitted patients. I never did get to the bottom of that, but it was pointed out at the time that the doctor also serviced the river communities in the early part of the 20th century. It seemed likely these death records represented the river communities as a whole. These records were packed up and sent to government repository in the early 2000's. The center was under DOCS at the time, not Health. So nice horror story for a moonless night, but another urban myth I'm afraid.

Senior managers signed contracts that set performance benchmarks on which their future depended. One of those benchmarks was the closure of institutions in their geographic areas. Did they just close them? No. First they had to convince the public that closure was the only option, and publicity was the vehicle. I'm not saying all, but some of those horror stories originated within the government department. I watched it happen. You're telling the story officials promoted at the time. Maybe one day the departmental horror stories will be told. BTW, I am glad they're closed. Look at the reports on any type of residential institution and it's hardly a life choice any of us would make for ourselves.
