As a construction company owner I need trucks to provide service to my customers and for staff to drive. We have always operated with the understanding of a newer truck is just less expensive to maintain and own. The greed and out right extortion being seen at the dealerships has made me change my perspective. Buying two trucks for the price of 3 with the value of 1 is just bad math and damn expensive. I have implemented a maintenance program that is keeping things running well. I am saving a lot of money driving trucks a few years old.

Profit is more important than anything, so that's why all of these auto manufacturers are struggling. They don't give a flip about the average people anymore, just the pocket spenders, and the manager of General Motors is driving GM to the ground. With the exception of the Pontiac Vibe, because it's a Toyota, Common sense finally hit me almost three years ago to give up on American made vehicles, and just stick with Toyota.

Cars when from you ordered and bought what you wanted or could afford ,to different models with some having more options and others less. In the late eighties you could get a brand new 1/2 ton full size pickup truck for around $14K, inflation went up about %250 from then that would put a new pick-up today at around $35K. Good luck finding that today, the trucks have gotten more complicated and more expensive to maintain while the bodies have decreased in weight and thickness of the sheet metal to lighten them up for better fuel economy while the prices have increased. You could also order a truck with the features you wanted back then such as color, wheel type, type of radio or no radio, suspension package etc.. Until the prices come down to reasonable levels they can keep their trucks as well as the rest of their vehicles, let them rust on the lots until they have to greatly discount them to sell them.

When a vehicle's monthly payment is almost as much as a home mortgage payment, there's a serious pricing problem. People still want and need new vehicles, but that's not the issue. They simply cannot afford them. For most working people a $300 or $350 a month payment is about tops and payments of $1000 or more are impossible, even if you could secure a loan. When you add in the fact that the factories went ahead and raised the MSRP so dealers could still get their "market adjustment" grift, you have failure written all over the auto market.

I work at a small Chevrolet dealership in close proximity to the Fort Wayne plant. My total new inventory of new cars, trucks and SUV's is a whopping 14 and that number includes vehicles that are currently being transportated to the dealership. Only 3 of the 14 vehicles that are sitting on my lot are New Silverados. Meanwhile as I drive past the plant I can litterally see thousands of trucks parked outside the plant. I am told that GM has secured parking on the other side of Fort Wayne where tens's of thousands of additional trucks are being stored. While the higher interest rates are affecting sales, so is the lack of inventory. And the low dealer inventory of new vehicles has increased the demand, and cost of pre-owned vehicles. I'm not stating any of this to solicit "pity the poor dealer" comments... these actions are hurting the consumer.

There were no discounts or incentives offered by GM, and then interest rates started climbing. And I was talking prices well exceeding $70k for a truck. I decided NEW was no longer something I wanted to consider, and was done with GM ... went and found a beautiful 2019 Ford F150, with Max Trailering, and 3.5L Ecoboost ... with 27k miles on it, and for $25k less than the new GM. Paid cash for it, and now have a truck I'm pleased with, without breaking the bank. Several GM dealers were telling me they would slap a $5K markup on their trucks .... and told them to pound sand! Most normal people have a perceived range of pricing that they feel is fair for vehicles and it definately does NOT go much over $50,000 dollars, and for most of us it likely doesn't exceed $30,000. Gotta keep those PROFITS ROLLING IN. Cut back on Production, Creates Artificial Demand, which in turn keeps the Used vehicle Markets HIGH.
All these Companies Always have an Excuse as to why their Prices keep going up and up and up. Consumer Demand, Supply Chain Issues. Chip Shortage, INFLATION. Don't see the prices come back down though when things slow down do ya?
    GREED! It's the American Way.

    My Personal Reason:
I’ve gotten a new car about every 3 years, my current truck Single Cab F150 5.0 msrp 37500 in 2020. I was able to negotiate too 30.5 K. Rebates where about 3k the rest was a dealer discount. Now if I’m looking for a similar trim truck it’s about mid to high 40s. Dealers are stocking the highest msrp truck they can with no rebates and don’t wanna move on the price. New truck would be nice but it’s not work the money ATM.

Consider yourself a pawn to the price hike in vehicles. Then again, just like everything else with a motor ... they won't last long.
I've bought 4 vehicles since 1998, 3 of them were new. 25 years later I still have 3 of them. One of which I ordered new in late 2021. I junked the one I don't have anymore with more than 300,000 miles on it.
When the dealer asked me if I had a trade-in when ordering a new 2021 vehicle, I told them no .... I'm keeping it.
He told me if there were more folks like me the auto industry would be in big trouble. 😂😂

Who the hell wants a huge expensive truck in the last 10 years trucks have gotten larger and far more expensive than most consumers want this is exactly why the Japenese co,s prospered in the 70's the American mfg's are once again out of touch!

Same with the housing market. People who try to get a loan for a smaller house are having issues. The banks want them to take out a larger loan for more profits instead.

This is a perfect example of why we need to manufacture more chips here in the US. We are now the 4th largest manufacturer in the world, behind only #1. Taiwan, #2. S. Korea, #3. Japan.
I realize there are companies now ramping up production in the States, but we need to have even more, so that we will once again be the number one manufacturer and exporter.

What do the expect with insane MSRP and exorbitant ‘market adjustment’. Have they never seen a price / demand curve?

I you look at the website of most new car dealers there is a paragraph at the bottom that states they are adding up to $8,000 to the price because they can call it a dealer adjustment due to market conditions.

Most companies have to worry about the possibility of failure, and going under. Most companies, if they make a product, and it is overpriced and poor quality, the possibility of going under is very real. Not the case with GM (GreedyMotors). They know the government will step in again and not let the company fail. All they care about is money, that bottom line. Nothing else matters.
