Thanks so much for checking out my thoughts on the new reboot of the Rugrats, let me know if you're going to be checking it out this weekend! Have a great day! Here's a video I made on All Grown Up, a Rugrats Spin-off show in case you haven't checked it out: ruclips.net/video/cLp53Gg6u08/видео.html&ab_channel=JordanFringe
I watched the first episode of the Rugrats reboot the night it premiered, and I loved it. The only things I did not like about it were the parents' new voices and some of their new careers/portrayals.
Big reason this isn’t going to be good is that the creators of Recess wrote for Rugrats and had a falling out with husband and wife Creators of Rugrats. There is a RUclips of why all grown up was bad
Kinda strange they went with all new adult actors. Stu and Grandpa I understand for obvious reasons with them no longer with us, but why not just bring back the originals. Ya did it with the babies.
Phil and Lil's VA is literally the same as their Mother too, so even if it was something like, all the Adult's VA's just didn't want to come back for some reason, they definitely had Phil and Lil's Mother's VA, and yet they still didn't have her voice her.
@@pengmaeda9908 dont quote me on this but I think I read an article that explained it's because she couldn't reproduce Betty's voice as easily as the twins', so she was casted to just do their voices.
Rebooting Rugrats is honestly a bigger challenge than rebooting just about any Nicktoon. The animation is really going to take some getting used to for me, though I do appreciate the emotion in their faces. But 3D makes things more "real" somehow―Rugrats is super abstract in a lot of ways, and it feels like this animation style actively fights that. I'm also a bit worried about Flanderization going forward. Ultimately I guess I'll have to give this a shot. Unlike Kamp Koral, which I intend to never watch out of principle (and the reaching hope that its numbers suck enough not to continue for long)
This whole lie the industry perpetuates that 3D is inherently superior is just done to cut costs as 3D is so much cheaper. 2d animation has the best potential for portraying abstract ideas because it’s not limited by anything but the ability to draw what you want people to see so if your a good artist it’s the ultimate storytelling vehicle
The original will always be the best but I think I kinda like it. I thought I wouldn’t. It’s just some parent voices sound weird but I’ll get used to it.
i gotta respect how unique the CG is even if it's a little off-putting. also gotta remind myself how off-putting the show's 2D animation was in the 90s too... feel like keeping it looking slightly strange is within the stylistic canon of the franchise
@Logia SD When the Rugrats were first pitched at Nick the execs thought all the babies looked ugly and the creative director responded "Yes I love that. That's what I want" it was a stylistic choice to be off putting but I could see how they may not be the word you would use.
@@patr1ckk3ll3y I don’t recall what the exact quote was, but I remember reading something about Rugrats production wherein one of the animation team members said that if they drew the babies too ‘cute’ they’d be told to redraw them “properly” lol
Sadly the original va for Chuckie, Christine Cavanaugh, passed a few years back. However, Nacy Cartwright is doing an amazing job at being a replacement.
4:59 As a school bus driver, if I saw unsupervised children driving a toy car in a busy street, I'd pull over and report it to dispatch, requesting police.
@@ryanzod6986 that was in the first movie, drew and stu were fighting because stu and grandpa lost the kids and there were news media everywhere looking for them
@@JordanFringe94 Tbh, I saw the og Rugrats reruns back in the late 2Ks and I think this RB isn’t bad at all. It just needs some time to get used to it for audiences.
The problem is most of the new voices don't sound good tbh. They don't actually seem like professionals which is a major problem in my opinion. I think the biggest issue with 3D is the awful character designs for the adults. Didi's face in particular is hideous and barely resembles her original design.
@Mecha Jay: Same here. It looks A LOT better than Kamp Koral, but I‘m still not very intrigued by its looks. The VAs for the parents just sound off. Is there a reason they didn’t get the OG crew back?
I think it is cause it captures the essence of the orginal show which is somthing a lot of reboots somtimes fail to do but here I think it does do so to at least make it nostalgic to old fans but well enough to attact new fans.
The time period shift is kind of strange. The parents are presumably in their 30s. In the original 90s show that would place their births in the 1960s so gen X. Grandpa would have been born in the 1940s so a boomer. I do believe Grandpa served in Vietnam. These are vital life experiences to the parent characters and their parenting styles. Now the parents would be millennials born in the 80s. That's a completely different show.
Its gets stranger because even though the reboot takes place in modern time, the first episode had Chuckie and Angelica talk about that water melon seed episode that happened in the original. Have they been babies for decades?
@@ixiahj Maybe its similar to other animated shows like Simpson's/Family Guy where they never age, but if that were the case then the adults should've been kept the same, it feels slightly off tbh
I wanna watch that show, bieng a parent now is completely different than being a parent in the 90s, and I'd like to explore that (wait, isn't Close Enough that? )
When I saw the trailer with just Chuckie and Angelica doing their thing, it looked fine. But when I watched the first 5 episodes, I can't shake the feeling that it looks like the Grub Hub ad. Tommy has these flat white eyes pasted on his 3d bald head. However, in this video, there were scenes played in a much lower frame rate and it looked like claymation. Maybe they should lower the frame rate so it doesn't look so clean. The original was deliberately made rough.
Best part is that will be an easy fix for the Internet to do. Also add a filter to slightly grain up the footage and audio and I'd bet it would make up for the lack of outlines
I don’t know why they thought it was a good idea to lean into the 2021 angle. If they were gonna do that they should have just done another installment of all grown up where they’re late 20s adults (maybe not all of them have kids because that would show a pretty cool generation gap). Or they could do a Brady bunch movie sort of deal. Makes me sad to think about spike being dead though, he’s a lowkey amazing addition to the show . But other than that it’s weird because Rugrats doesn’t constantly reference the 90s.
They should've made a rugrats were the babies are 90 years old and put in the same retirement home, and their adventures involve them escaping the nursing home and causing chaos. They now hallucinate their parents ghost following their old routine from the 90's and watching over them like babies.
would much prefer that by changing the generation you change character development for example Grandpa went from a old war veteran to an old hippie all because of the generation change.
As someone who works in childcare, them learning a lesson one say and having the lesson not follow into the new episodes is the most accurate thing about this show when it comes to the relationship of babies. 😂 They tend to stick with the "New day, new me" trope lol. They don't remember what they did the day before, and that's why the Rugrats relationships worked so well, every day was a new day.
Susie feels so off in this series. She's meant to balance out Angelica yet, they somehow decided to age her down to 2 years old. Also, I wonder if we're going to see complex/diverse episodes such as in Rugrats Kwanzaa
I know right . There was no need to age her. 3 is a toddler like the rest of them. But they didn't so she wouldn't be to snitch. Apperaly in the Rugrats world kids cant talk till 2 1/12 - 3
@@samis2real Snitch? When has the OG Susie ever snitched? She stood up for Tommy and the others against Angelica all on her own. She was an example of how 90's kids dealt with their own problems by standing up to bullies. At the same time she was also Angelica's best friend. This new Susie is just the token black baby. She doesn't say anything funny, she doesn't do anything interesting. She's just the token black baby now that doesn't do anything other than being black.
@@samis2real That's also what I meant. She doesn't need to snitch on EITHER of the series because she could handle Angelica on her own. Now she doesn't do anything other than being black.
When I was younger those VHS tapes were how I normally watched Rugrats. We owned some, but not a lot, but I loved watching them. I could have watched Rugrats on tv, but it was normally just on later at night
I turned it off when it got to Grandpa & Stu spoke for the first time. Couldn't get past those voices. I was digging it for the first few mins until Grandpa & Stu spoke. Glad to see you reviewed this, great video!
It was just boring. But the grandpa’s voice was too jarring. I didn’t last 15 minutes. Whatever magic the original had did not carry over to the reboot. It definitely wasn’t like the original three seasons. Maybe it was more like the newer seasons. I didn’t watch them because they weren’t the same.
Honestly of all the adults voices Stu is the only one that immediately clicked with me, it felt true to Jack Riley’s performance without just being a bad impression, maybe because I didn’t realize ahead of time every adult was getting recast so I didn’t think to prepare for their voices to be different.
I don't know if its the 3D or the angles drawn in 2D back then, but the house and yard seem smaller. Not a point against it, its just something I noticed as the original always seemed to make everything larger and warped, I think to match the babies worldview
Probably the angles. Back then, to do wide shots, they'd have to draw the background or scene warped to give the impression of 3D movement. This tends to add a fish eye lens effect, which warps things to look a bit bigger
Don't like what they did to suzie. I know all grown up messed with the ages to have them all be in middle school, but why make suzie the same age as chuckle? And shes an only child now? Nah, don't like that
@@original__gmebvy to me, The Rugrats was very much of a time, it was a show about Gen-X'ers raising Millennials, and All Grown Up continued that story into later stages of life, and while this reboot is... fine, I would have much rather have seen a new cast of babies with the original cast as the parents.
It would justify the time period at least. If the kids were around teen years during AGU (around 2000), they would be in there late 30s early 40s by this time (2021-ish). I would love to see that. It would make it easier to justify new voice actors for the adults, maybe even the parents and justification as to why their characters change. All and all, I would've much preferred something like that. In addition, I never really got the whole "Introduce it to a new generation". The old version still exists and in most cases, they may go back to the old version; so what's the point?
@@POIUYTREWQ62 I also don’t understand the whole “let’s remake it for a new generation to enjoy” thing. For example, I like The Nanny even though I wasn’t alive when it was first airing. Yeah sometimes I don’t get all the references but does there really need to be an updated version for people my age to enjoy? (Which I guess answers my question, I don’t think the excessive reboots coming out for the past few years are *really* for the “new generation to enjoy” I think it’s a way for people to hold on to their childhood and for companies to cash in on nostalgia)
I think having a proper spin-off with the babies being the new adults with their own kids and whatnot would have been better- but oh well. Still gonna give this a try.
Would be awesome if Tommy and Kimi got married and had a daughter, Chuckie married someone and has a girl of his own, similar personalities or not. Angelica could have a kid who's quite the opposite of their mother at that age, and so on. Stuff like that would be cool. Get to have new characters and old ones return in different ways.
Yeah, that was my hope for the series. It honestly would've been cool if Nick had every few years, age the kids up to a different point in their lives. Have a few seasons of them being in college and getting out into the world, then around now have them aged up again to being in their late 20s and some of them (like Tommy and Kimi) getting married and having kids while others (likely Angelica) don't have kids yet and are just living their lives as full growned up adults. We could even check in with the parents during these times and see them as empty nesters and how their lives have changed. Heck, maybe we could gotten a proper story where one of the parent couples splits up and see how that effects the dynamics of the show.

I get that it is a joke, but come on. Just because someone likes the old and doesn't like the new that doesn't mean they are "Nostalgia Blind". What if I called you "Pretentious" or "Snobby" for preferring the new to the old? Or would you defend yourself for your taste? Again, I get that it may be a joke, calling someone "Nostalgia Blind", but still. It implies old stuff can only be enjoyed because of nostalgia and undermines the opinion of everyone who prefers old to new.
Honestly the first 5 seasons were great. I don’t dislike dil, I liked him in all grown up, but he made the show go in a different direction. A boring direction.
I saw a recent article come out that they’re going to make Phil and lil’s mom a lesbian and that’s why her husband isn’t any episodes. I think the idea to make one of the parents LGBTQ+ is fine but to me it feels like they’re reinforcing the stereotype that a masculine woman can’t be attracted to men.
It's like saying that a woman can't be straight if she's more masculine. It feels like an insult to change her sexuality, it's reinforcing stereotypes like you said.
It’d be cool if they made her bi. There’s not enough bi representation at all so it’d be a nice change of pace. Maybe Phil and Lil’s dad could be a divorcee so that some kids could relate to it as well.
I think the original character was supposed to just represent role reversal, which was the thing in the 90s. She was the large butch woman, and Howard was the small guy who did the cooking and cleaning.
I grew up with the old version of Rugrats and watching this, doesn't upset me like most reboots do. It does change a lot from what it is and was, but if you think about it as if you are a kid who had never seen the old one, you're going to probably enjoy this version a little bit better than if you have seen the old one first. The old one has its charm, but the new one has charm too. we just have to look at as, who's the target demographic for what's being shown? Rugrats wasn’t made for the adults but made for the kids up the adults that grew up watching Rugrats. So do I say that this reboot is bad, no. Does it change a lot from what I like from the original, heck yeah. does the new one have a leg to stand on? And the answer is, only if it's done correctly like these few episodes sort of do. So I will always love the original, but I can appreciate how they're trying to bring the show to a newer audience with references that they get.
Plus this isn't replacing the original, either. So long as it's good quality, it won't retroactively ruin the original via leaving a bad taste in one's mouth while burying the original under articles about the reboot sucking
*claps* ty I actually saw this on my tv for the first time and I rlly liked it, I tried to watch some of the old ones and it feels a bit weird but maybe I can try to enjoy both yea
I've been hearing rumors that if this reboot is successful, hey arnold could return with a new season. I hope that happens as long as it's 2D. I want jimmy neutron back as well. The rugrats reboot is okay imo. Just wish it was 2D.
But so far it seems the CGI actually is working well with the show and if the rest of the season does well this may lead to a resergence of Nicktoons maybe.
Doubtful, Nick seems pretty adamant about going full CGI now. I’m assuming the current executives are the type that feels 2D animated stuff doesn’t sell anymore....despite the fact they are making bank showing reruns of their older classic shows/merchandise of said shows....and those recent one off specials of 3 of those shows (which included Hey Arnold) did well too.
gosh same here, i miss jimmy neutron and hey arnold so much. i'd take any new content. (thats not another car commercial) i saw a clip on twitter with the main jimmy neutron cast voicing characters and it was tagged with netflix but idk if it means anything since this was last year i think?
A vietnam vet grandpa would just have too much grim connotations to it, you'd have to give him a flashback episode. Whereas ww2 is more heroic and glorious in the public.
@@thing1thing2themediamaniac43 Public opinion and awareness of war crimes in the US differed, though, which impacts the experience of the veteran afterwards.
@@thing1thing2themediamaniac43 no man, your completely wrong about that. Although my love for this country is very high, I do believe that Vietnam was an atrocity, a big black mark on America's record for messed up stuff we have done. But you have to remember that it was almost all political driven and alot of the soldiers were forced to fight because of the draft. WW2 on the other hand is a different story because it America hadn't helped the allied forced fight the Nazis we'd be speaking German right now. We had to fight in WW2 of else when the Nazis beat the allied forces they would have immediately attacked us and demolished America. I do see your point about how war is a bad thing, and I agree but sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do for the greater good.

Yep I agree. I just can’t stomach the way they look with that CG animation.... makes them look like creepy plastic figurine toys. To me rugrats is just not one of those art styles that translates well into 3D.
@Shin Shaman Pretty much only change I'd make to the animation myself. It's the lack of black lines throwing people off, these models are incredible otherwise. Like... Just add outlines and bam, it would fit just fine
Something about the style (not the animation) is really throwing me. I know they've tried their best to translate the Klasky-Csupo style but......... :/ I'll say it looks better on some characters than others; Chuckie for example looks pretty good because he has a lot of angles to offset the weird smoothness everything else has. But Angelica's eyes look downright manic. 😂
I kind of like that look on Angelica. She was always a bit extra in the original. Maybe have a joke or something about, "You ever thought of taking Angelica to an optometrist?" "No, why?" "Just... Her eyes, they kinda wig me out" and then a B Plot of Angelica's mom making sure that if Angelica needs glasses or something, they are fashionable as hell, only for all the frame picking to be worthless as it turns out, "Her eyes are fine. Just cut her screen time some and they should correct themselves" or something
Reboots and remakes aren't new. Except back then you could get away with it because the decades had their identities to give it new flavor. You go into the 21st century and things just generally feel like that corporate sterile mass market alteration people always satirized about only now we're past satire.
As a big Rugrats and All Grown Up fan, this actually looks good?! Like, the way they move and stretch their bodies with the animation. I'm excited to check it out! Hope they bring Howard back! Also unlike a lot of people here, I loved Dil and Kimi growing up-and hope they return, too! It was nice seeing Chaz find another woman in his life; and seeing Chucky and Tommy get new siblings was cute! Dil and Kimi for life!
As someone who watched reruns of this show and was around when the show was not quite dead yet (1995), I prefer the seasons with Dil and AGU than this, especially in light of Betty not being married to Howard anymore - ...because in trading another weird stereotype we had (brash, loud woman who clearly sounds and acts unfeminine was seen as a "bulldyke" and often ignored - Howard marrying her was commendable back then because of it) we replaced that with "all women who act like Betty *must be gay."* I was a tomboy in the mid-90s and liked Betty because she was relatable to me. By coincidence, I'm bisexual. These are not a correlation to each other, and it's annoying they jumped straight to "SHE'S GAY." because of how she looks. The show also just looks...off, somehow. Combined with the voices...yeah, I'm skipping this. Glad you like it, though!
I preferred the original Betty. She was rough and tough but kind and feminine in her own way. I also liked that Howard was the softer domestic homemaker type. It just doesn't make sense to me that they would remove him like that. Based on his personality I can't imagine him being an absent father even if they're divorced. It might have even added to the story to have them co-parent.
@@eastsidereviews727 all the articles I read say divorced. I don't know if he makes any appearances but based on what's been said so far it doesn't seem like it
I'm all for LGBTQ representation but I hate when shows/ properties have preexisting lore and characters that get removed or completely changed just for the sake of trying to be modern. Howard, Phil and lils dad, doesn't exist in this reboot because they've made Betty lesbian. If you want to have a LGBTQ character then create one with a unique backstory or character. Don't just rewrite an existing character to check off a box.
Making Betty into a lesbian doesn't bother me that much because I'm most interested in what the babies are doing not the adults and this was a decision by the original creators not some random person and also this is a reboot
It's a bizarre choice. Howard was still married to Betty in All Grown Up. I guess this is a different series universe than the original considering Kimi and Dill have poofed out of existence and Angelica and Suzie are different ages despite being the same age in the old show.
@@Nightman221k Kimi and Dill will prolly come later on in the show like they did in the original. But Angelica being 3 compared to 7 in the original is very strange imo.
@@animezilla4486 I get that, but I still think it’s a bit weird. It’s quite obvious that the only reason why they decided Betty was an lesbian was because she’s a tomboy. Betty was a tomboy, but that wasn’t because she was a lesbian. Both Betty and Howard were characters that simply broke gender stereotypes. As a tomboy myself, it makes me a bit uncomfortable that they’re pushing the stereotype that because you’re a woman who likes man-ish things, that means you’re a lesbian. Have no problem with them making new characters, but regardless of whether you’re the creator or not, it’s not okay to change the way a character has been established to be.
A lot of comments are saying this and I agree. It would've been more intersting to have the babies aged up to mid 20's-Early 30's with some of them having kids. Not only would it would allow for everything to be canon without making anything confusing but would grow with the original fans
Bet one of their imaginary adventures is them imagining if they grew up with their parents or something, and it would have a moral or something about Nostalgia can make you feel good, but can get you stuck in the past and pushing stuff on kids they may not like (B Plot being Stu finding an old video of his childhood and watching it with Tommy, then noticing he was playing an old game in it and he spends the episode trying to find that game to play it again, only to get it and realize it sucks and he was pushing Tommy to like stuff he liked)
I do have to wonder why they completely changed Lou's character, to the point where he doesn't even feel like the same person, but I guess they didn't want to play into the "crotchety old man" stereotype? Personally, I feel the show is passable though still sorta on the meh side with the occasional good moment or laugh. My one major complaint: It seems like they made Suzie super passive, at least in the first couple eps. Like, they had that whole thing where Angelica is telling Chuckie that he's gonna be a worm boy, and Suzie barely confronts or argues with her - and she doesn't even try to comfort Chuckie. Instead of that Nice older kid VS Mean older kid dynamic, it feels like they made Suzie a minor character that just kinda refers to Tommy, like she's the same age as Chuckie instead of the same age as Angelica. Granted it's been a while since I've seen the old show, so maybe I'm misremembering, but I feel like Suzie should have a stronger character than just "nice girl".
Didn't she come later in the original as well? Could be plans for her getting morally strong and standing up to Angelica becomes one of the big character arcs that sticks and isn't forgotten between episodes
I haven't seen the Rugrats reboot yet, but according to what I've read online supposedly the reason they got rid of Phil and Lil's dad was because they retconned their mom to now be a lesbian...for some reason. I'm conflicted about this. On the one hand, I have nothing against gay characters in kids' shows, but on the other hand, I feel the same way about recasting straight characters gay as I do with recasting male characters as women or white characters as POCs. That is to say I think it's a very lazy form of representation. Unless the original Rugrats was subtly implying Phil and Lil's mom was a closeted lesbian and I missed it, making her one now feels very much like they're doing it just to tick off a box for social brownie points. I'm all for more gay characters in kids' media if they're well written (e.g. Ruby and Sapphire), but I'm really starting to get sick of this recent trend of putting representation first and writing good characters second.
I think the thing that bothers me most is that Howard and Betty were both groundbreaking by being a hetero couple because neither conformed to prescribed gender roles. In the 90s a man like Howard and a woman like Betty would have always been steryotyped as being gay because of how they presented as a more masculine woman and a more feminine man. I liked that there was a difference between gender performance and sexuality shown. I feel that this change takes away from that and that makes me sad. Also, I loved Howard. He was a breath of fresh air because of his personality and hobbies. He clearly loved Betty and the twins. To be fair I am also miffed that they changed Randy's profession and that I have not seen Kimmy or Dill in any of the advertising. Nor am I a big fan of 3d animation. I do love Angelica playing with a dating app for Grandpa though. That is funny.
I’m not judging or anything but do they really have to put LGBTQ stuff into ALL cartoons these days? Like, I totally understand how it is these days and I accept people who are like that and how they are and everything but honestly I’m starting to feel like it’s being over done just a bit too much, they always have to include it in almost every cartoon now. :/ It seems forced a bit honestly, like, not EVERY character these days needs to be that and they shouldn’t just rewrite original characters to be that, it kinda ruins them you know and makes them how they never even originally were in the first place. :/
@@princesspeachfan100 I actually think that more representation is awesome for any group like the LGBT+ community is awesome because until recently on tv they have been excluded or the butt of jokes. This was especially true in the 90s. Kids deserve to see family's like their own on tv. However, I do agree that it would be better to create new characters for this so that care and attention are shown to development and it is not seen as an afterthought or pandering. The more diversity we have, the better.
I agree! I always thought of Betty as just being a boisterous feminist so having her turned into a lesbian now is really jarring. I loved the dynamic she and Howard had in the original, it was always really entertaining.
I actually like the textures and lighting. The models almost feel toy like. Which I feel fits the mood of the show if it was 3D. I also like how they have subdued textures in the hair, felt cloth, and textures walls. It is a nice flourish to add to the 3D aspect of it. But it is not so loud, so it translates better with their cartoon counterparts. Also, they added very subtle additions that just feels right. Like Stubble feels like to adds to his dishovelled inventor look and Grandpa's glasses rims feel like 90's grandparent's glasses rims. It just feels right. The part that can throw me off is how 2D the eyes can look. Do not get me wrong, I actually like the painted on animation look 3D models. But it feels like the eyes should lens out just a littls bit and they are so matte. Feels like there is no life to them. I feel like they shouldn't go too crazy with it, but they should add a slight gloss to it. That balloon for instance was way too glossy. Felt almost wet.
Gotta say, I do wish more kids shows would go back to 2nd animations. While yes, the 3D is high quality and well done it just lacks that charm and personality. Like, every 3D kids show looks too similar.
Huh that's odd, grandpa is what I hated most about the reboot. He's the only one who sounds nothing like the original and his character has a totally different personality. It also feels like they're trying too hard to force in modern societal tropes and trends.
It's really no surprise, though. Everyone walks on eggshells out of fear of offending today. What they did to grandpa really wasn't a surprise. Why have someone tell tall tales when they can be some pc hippie?
It doesn't look as bad as some other cgi reboots, but the Klasky-Cupo style doesn't really translate well from 2d to 3d. It kind of looks like a spinoff of those GrubHub ads.
The reason Howard isn't there is cause they made Betty gay, which is an insult not only to Howard, but to her character as well. Just because you're a loud brash, tough woman, doesn't automatically mean you're a lesbian. They tell us not to stereotype, and yet, here they go stereotyping themselves. It's like the She-Ra reboot all over again -_-
I agree that being a less-feminine woman doesn't mean you are a lesbian but frankly, the only reason Howard ever existed is to make Betty seem less gay. I'm glad they've realised that was a homophobic instinct and hey, if you're going to do a reboot why not change some of the characters? More representation is better than no representation. It helps normalize the fact that, yes, gay single parents are a thing. And let's face it, Howard was a nothing character. I don't remember a thing about him! His wiki article describes him as Betty's husband an unemployed. Not exactly a fan favourite.
@@joshuamarchant8420 Not sure where you got the whole "only reason she has a husband is so she seems less gay" thing. You got any citations to back that up?
@@BlazeHeartPanther Betty was very heavily coded to fit butch lesbian stereotypes. That plus the sheer indifference the show had toward Howard as a character. It's speculation on my part but I'm fine with losing Howard for gay Betty.
@@joshuamarchant8420 Still, whats wrong with writing Howard better. I mean, they can still keep Betty the way she is in this version by being Bi while also giving Howard a much more expanded personality.
@@BlazeHeartPanther I do think it would be interesting for them to explore the particulars of how Betty came to conceive Phil and Lil and the presumed divorce from Howard but maybe I'm asking too much adult drama from a kids show about babies.
As 3D artist, i'll give a visual point of view. This new version is actually really well made. I love how they managed to maintain the essence of a style design 2D animation. The animation itself may lack some exaggerated motion, but it feels good - And i never even liked Rugrats, maybe because i didn't live it's era lol
As the Character Design Lead of the show... thanks. It wasn't easy... the younger crew members all grew up on it, and tried to get it as close as the technology allowed.
@BlackWorm I always thought 2D would be cheaper (At least in this era, where pretty much anyone can get a tablet and animate). Ray tracing graphics cards are expensive, and need to stay cool 24/7 xD I bet if they did go for the 2D approach, they would probably use Vector Graphics, which will still look off. I love both, anyways, cute characters are cute characters :D
I'm just curious on what the thought process was to change Susie's age to the same age of the babies. One great standout the original series was the friendship dynamic between Angelica and Susie.
Even in CGI, this still looks like a 90's show. Reminds me of something Tim Burton would make if he made something cheery. Honestly it reminds me of these claymation skits from Pee Week's Playhouse.
I don’t have Paramount+ yet, so this is kind of my intro to the show. It’s a shame they couldn’t get the original voice actors for the adult characters back, but I’m grateful that the kids VOs are here. I’ll check this out down the line whenever I do eventually get the streaming service, and I’m looking forward to it. It sounds like they put honest care it to keeping it true to the original source material while still updating it for a modern audience, which is really all that can be asked for when it comes to this sort of production.
I’m not especially a fan, specifically of the art style, but the swag bags at the drive in screening were pretty good lol. The only disappointment was the Reptar Cereal Box didn’t actually have cereal lol.
The Mother's Day episode is very special to me. It was always really sad to me because I could never imagine my life without my mother. We were best friends. My beautiful mother died in 2019 of kidney failure, she was only 51 years old. Way too young to go so now the Rugrats Mother's Day special means even more to me on a deeper level. I will never forget when Angelica was Chuckie's mom in the episode and named him Blaine I legitimately started crying in one of the newer episodes when they did an amazing call back to the Mother's Day special where Chuckie was Angelica's son again and she called him Blaine. I legitimately started crying. I love how you can tell that like you said the people working on this version of Rugrats truly love it because if you really pay attention you will notice subtle little call backs and things like that. I love it.
Here is what I think they should have done. They should have introduced the new babies to almost looks like the original Rugrats, just with different/altered names. So here is what I'm thinking Tommy + Kimi have their son, Timmy (looks mostly like baby Tommy but half Japanese). Chucky + Angelica have their son, Chucky Jr (looks mostly like baby Chucky) and older sister Cynthia (looks mostly like toddler Angelica). Phil and Suzie have their son Bill (looks likely like baby Phil but half black). Lil and Dyl have their daughter Jill (looks mostly like baby Lil). Tommy falls in his dad's inventor footsteps and Dyl ends up a lot like Drew as the straight laced guy. Angelica ends up a lot like her mom as a CEO of a toy company (maybe) while Chucky is a stay at home dad. Nods to the first series by having the grandparents make cameos, but not much beyond that.
I love the texture of the carpet in the house, the wedding rings the men wear and dirtiness of the twins' outfits. Oh, and Spike resting his head on Lou's leg as he plays video games. I'm not sold on everything, but these are positive things that stand out to me. :-)
For the 2021 reboot I personally just started showing it to my daughter and she’s all about it. I got tired of Disney princesses and Encanto so I gave it a shot and she loved it. It gives me something to watch that I grew up with and now I can watch that with her and we can bond like that. It reminds me of when I would watch scooby Doo with my dad, he had it when he was younger then I did. It’s great for us who have kids now that can use it to connect with them
I absolutely hate the way the new one looks. I watched a few of the old ones last night and it's best as a 2d cartoon show. Just because it's 2021 doesn't mean everything needs to be 3d.
@@freshfishbowl even more impressive because she is a straight woman. That leads to credence of alpha and beta in relationships regardless of gender. Just seems like to me Drew has become the new Howard.
I absolutely love this. I'm a 3D artist and it's so amazingly refreshing to see stylized 3D art being used in mainstream media again. It seems like every 3D industry these days goes the route of "I want this 3D animation to look so real that you can't even tell it's not" Seeing stylized art make a comeback is refreshing and inspiring for me to see.
I agree, like it’s cool 3D animation can look so real, that’s amazing we can do that, but I’ll always love them doing something different or weird and styling up what could just be bland!
Betty being a lesbian in the reboot bothers me because it seems like their enforcing the stereotype that woman who have tomboy like qualities are actually just gay.
I also don’t understand why they changed her to Latina. I get they’re trying to push diversity, but what’s wrong with her being white like she was in the original series? Also, why are they making her part of Susie’s parents’ friend group? I don’t get all the changes to her character at all. If they wanted to add a lesbian character for whatever reason, they could’ve just created a new character. Same goes for Latina. If they wanted a Latina character, they could created a new one. Why make these unnecessary changes to an established character?
i just hope they can make one modern cartoon or modern reboot without being woke for a change...the stuff they are putting in childrens entertainment is really bizarre now!🤦♀️
@@tyeishaleisure They could have added a Latino baby Rugrat. That would have been nice. I'm assuming Kimmy will be back later on so they could definitely add a Latino baby. Also Betty could have stayed a boyish woman. And Howard could be a sensitive man. They want to be inclusive by adhering to stereotypes.
This show suffers from the same issue as every other animated show for preschoolers right now and that's the painfully, ear-splittingly overproduced audio. Also EG Daley sounds unrecognizable
I have a fear for reboots. I can’t handle the change and it feels if its forced to make something new and good since the first one was a hit. Tbh the animations scares me. 3D works for some shows and definitely when its used the first time like Jimmy neutron. But this a drastic change and idk if im ready for that. As a kid that grew up with mostly 90 and 2000 shows I feel that criticize every new cartoon ... I just miss the old ones. But hopefully this is a good show. I’m still willingly to try.
For sure worth a shot, lots of good hear, still some bad, and we’ll always have the originals of this isn’t your cup of tea. And that’s coming from someone who also is very hesitant and scared of reboots happening to anything I love lol
I was happy that Nickelodeon did something right for once and did the Rugrats marathon all day on Nicktoons yesterday to celebrate the reboot's release but it's better for the reboot on streaming services than Nick's main channel knowing what the studio would've done like how they treated Rise of the TMNT and Miraculous Ladybug.
EG lost her range for Tommy before the original series was done. I feel like Cheryl has also lost her range for Angelica and Kathy lost her range for Lil.
I mean, you have to give her credit though for at least trying to sound the same, but she is older now and probably just can’t do the voice the same way anymore.
I feel like no one aside from myself noticed that in the first episode when Phil and Lil show up in the “hamster ball”, they made Lil’s voice come out of Phil.
I grew up watching the og rugrats. It was hands down my favorite show as a kid. As a mother to a 7 year old, I can totally see why the changes happened that aren't so much liked now. My daughter just could not get into the original rugrats. I've tried throughout her life randomly to get her to give it a try. She just wasn't having it. I can't say it's because she doesn't like the way cartoons were designed back then, because she loves hey Arnold. Last night we decided to watch the first episode. Within 2 minutes she was laughing like crazy, and we ended up watching all the episodes available. This wasn't made for the now adults who grew up watching it, but for the kids today while making it a show parents will watch with them in enjoyment.
Lou depicted as a baby boomer hippie rather than a gruff WW2/Great Depression survivor strikes me as downright _anachronistic_ considering the parents in the original show were baby boomers. It's the same problem as keeping the characters the same age in the Simpsons for longer than ten seasons: the original '90s incarnation too firmly rooted the characters in the trappings of contemporary conditions. The babies' parents in this version are now millennials, almost as young as the babies themselves were in the original. The adults by far had the most interesting dialogue, and we learn a lot about them from throwaway lines. Some classic examples: Betty (talking to Didi, in the episode where Tommy goes nude): "The '60s are over. *We lost."* Lou (asleep): "Dust bowl, shmust bowl, I ain't goin' to California..." Certain characters become incoherent, or simply _stop making sense,_ if they aren't transformed almost beyond recognition. Does it make any sense for Didi's parents, thrust forward in time by ~30 years, to refer euphemistically to the "old country" and speak in a vaguely eastern European accent like Holocaust survivors of their generation would have? Does it make as much sense for Charlotte to be as ambitious as she is career-wise _without_ clearly being among the first generation of women to "break the glass ceiling" in the business world? Is Howard out of the picture because he doesn't need Betty to be his beard to stay in the closet? What would the parents' millennial (or X-ennial) equivalents (and Lou's boomer equivalent) have to offer in exchange for throwing this character lore in the garbage? _Buffy speak?_
I haven’t seen the Reboot, but from screenshots it certainly looks strange, kinda cheap if I’m being honest, the artstyle of the original doesn’t transfer the best into 3D. The franchise declined in quality after the first movie, and both of its spin-offs were worse in my opinion. So I’m not particularly excited about eventually seeing this.
I thought that the reboot is just okay. The fact that it’s premiere is on Paramount+ kinda makes the retreading of older ground way more noticeable. The streaming service has all 9 seasons of the original Rugrats, so people instantly have a source to compare it to
I am a hardcore Rugrats fan and I couldn't even get through one episode of the new show. The only part I liked was Spike. At least it says in the title that it is only based on the original show. It's good that it's a reboot and not a continuation. Its clearly set in a different universe and has a different timeline. Which means it's not canon to the original universes timeline. Not to mention it's basically a what if the rugrats were babies in modern times.
@@thesladesterb3vt3co7h I know right? I'm so glad! Some people are saying its cannon but the show itself confirms that it's only cannon to this new timeline.
@@zeelyle2002 Yeah, especially for the fact that Betty is actually gay and Susie is the age range that the Rats are. Those facts prove that it’s not canon at all to the original.
@@thesladesterb3vt3co7h Yeah in the original Betty had a really sweet backstory for when she met Howard. Also in the new show the grown ups have different jobs. The one that I didn't like was Susie's dads. In the original he was a writer for the dummi bears which was awesome. In the new one he's a science teacher.
I’m hoping this series grows and develops into its own thing that I can share with my kids. While also showing them the original from my perspective. Great video had no idea it was already released so thanks for letting us know.
I hate that many kids nowadays don’t even know this masterpiece exists. I’m 12 and I discovered and fell in love with this show when I was 5, woke up, turned on tv, and BAM rugrats movie. I hope more kids fall in love with the series.
I love how they’ve developed Didi’s character with a baby clothes making business and baby blog. It actually looks better than I thought. The new adults voices sound bad but thank goodness the O.G baby voices are there. I wish we had paramount plus in the UK, not sure where I’ll be able to watch it?!!
I just finished watching the 5 episodes. I noticed how the parents play a larger role in the show as well. I like the show so far. I laughed out loud at some points and noticed some adult humor sprinkled in the show too. Looking forward to the rest of the series :)
I love that the sounds are familiar for the babies. But the art style is what is throwing me. certain scenes seem still and lifeless that in the original had much more character. I’m excited to see if the show learns from the weirdness of the current situation. Possibly this show can too go through different stages as it progresses and what we’re getting is only the beginning. But as for now I don’t really see how the scenes parallel that distorted child like mindset due to the limited animation style.
I know people are already talking and/or complaining about how the parents are recreated. But I'm still mind-blown about how the parents are finally wearing different clothing.
I agree that the 3d can be jarring at first, but I love the little details that it brings, like the gemstones on Angelicas shoes (and the little details on the shoes in general) and the texture on Spikes nose, and even the individual fibers on the carpet and the individual blades of grass in the yard. the callback to the Watermelon episode was nice as well. Overall I definitely want to watch more of this series, even if it is just for nostalgias sake.
I don't know how I feel about Betty being confirmed to be gay. Can she be gay and be a single parent? Absolutely, nothing wrong with showing that. But the /potential/ near-if-not retconning of Howard out of the story through that just makes it seem like they're slapping on some representation to say they support the community (they probably do because Rugrats has and reaches so many, but still). Not saying that can't be a real-life situation to divorce because of your sexuality, but then you'd think he'd have some visitation. Hopefully future episodes will give some clarity to things here and change my views on how I think they may be handling it, because obviously I'm inferring on some stuff here (we only know she jokes about her ex-girlfriends?) and we only have 5 episodes. And I'll admit I don't have, nor know anyone (besides uploader-sensei) who has Paramount+. (* I understand there was /potential/ hints in the original she was gay, and that saying she was in the 90's might've gotten the show cancelled. Also, some articles I saw say she's now gay [and so does her new VA], others say lesbian, so I dunno if she could be bi, and if they'll explain why Howard is gone through that or not.) Also tfw Rugrats now has an alternate timeline to confuse things. Rip Kimi, Spike, Dil, and the early 2000's of All Grown Up.
I can understand to the extent that a lot of the people who will watch Rugrats will be children and it tries to convey different families for the kids. The 90's show tried to feature a mix of different parents for the kids like Chucky being raised by his single father and I can see then doing that here too with lgbtq couples and parents being more open. It's good to show this for the kids watching too as they may see their own family dynamic in the show or be introduced to the idea of different family units existing and being equally as valid. They could have maybe introduced a new character too but I get the feeling people would be screeching about that the same.
I watched the first episode and loved it. The originals were my favorite growing up and I think this one catches the same magic 🪄🧞♀️ but I agree about the adults.
Thanks so much for checking out my thoughts on the new reboot of the Rugrats, let me know if you're going to be checking it out this weekend! Have a great day!

Hi Jordan man, any idea when the next episodes will air?
@@hyu8826 I thought All Grown Up was great. But I still respect everyone else's opinions, including yours.
Strange...... that's an understatement
Kinda strange they went with all new adult actors. Stu and Grandpa I understand for obvious reasons with them no longer with us, but why not just bring back the originals. Ya did it with the babies.
The fact that the VA for Betty already returned to play the twins confounds me.
@@animegx45 Why?
@@CharmCityGamer They already had her there, so there was really no reason to not have her voice Betty unless she for some reason was against it.
Unlike Kamp Koral, which I intend to never watch out of principle (and the reaching hope that its numbers suck enough not to continue for long)
The revival was actually quite decent. Here's to hoping for their success as it would likely lead to a Hey Arnold! season 6.
Unlike Cartoon Network where they took a massive 💩 on The Powerpuff Girls revival
Which is better; this, or the CG Rugrats from the PS1 game?
This whole lie the industry perpetuates that 3D is inherently superior is just done to cut costs as 3D is so much cheaper. 2d animation has the best potential for portraying abstract ideas because it’s not limited by anything but the ability to draw what you want people to see so if your a good artist it’s the ultimate storytelling vehicle
The original will always be the best but I think I kinda like it. I thought I wouldn’t. It’s just some parent voices sound weird but I’ll get used to it.
Phil and Lil's mom looks like a character from the Grubhub ad.
Omg lmao 😂

i gotta respect how unique the CG is even if it's a little off-putting.
also gotta remind myself how off-putting the show's 2D animation was in the 90s too... feel like keeping it looking slightly strange is within the stylistic canon of the franchise
yha same.

I think she did his voice at the tail end of the new episodes of the original series so it's not a super recent thing.

The problem is most of the new voices don't sound good tbh. They don't actually seem like professionals which is a major problem in my opinion. @Mecha Jay: Same here. It looks A LOT better than Kamp Koral, but I‘m still not very intrigued by its looks. The VAs for the parents just sound off. Is there a reason they didn’t get the OG crew back?
The fact that it doesn’t suck on a massive scale is a miracle when it comes to reboots.

@@thepinkestpigglet7529 boomers actually began in 1946 as the boom started with WW2 ending.

I wish they went the hard-sequel route with the babies as adults with their own kids, but I'll definitely check this out.
Kind of wish they did with the Peanuts movie did and leave it ambiguous when it took place.
Either use old tech, or mix and match.
It's like they don't realize people hate modern times.
They should've made a rugrats were the babies are 90 years old and put in the same retirement home, and their adventures involve them escaping the nursing home and causing chaos. They now hallucinate their parents ghost following their old routine from the 90's and watching over them like babies.
would much prefer that by changing the generation you change character development for example Grandpa went from a old war veteran to an old hippie all because of the generation change.
the character designer already designed the babies as adults in response of some fanart that he disagreed with, so yeah
Couldn’t agree more! Very good analogy.

Honestly of all the adults voices Stu is the only one that immediately clicked with me, it felt true to Jack Riley’s performance without just being a bad impression, maybe because I didn’t realize ahead of time every adult was getting recast so I didn’t think to prepare for their voices to be different.
Stu's new voice seems to be the only one out of all the parents who sounds close to his original voice.
Didi’s new voice is pretty fitting too in comparison to the og voice actress. She does a good job at paying tribute while taking her own spin

I feel like they did that already with All Grown Up, which was basically them interacting with a new generation of kids
@@vanillamarshmallow You are 100% spot on!
I think having a proper spin-off with the babies being the new adults with their own kids and whatnot would have been better- but oh well. Still gonna give this a try.
Yeah I’ve been asking that for years, think I mentioned it in my All Grown Up video, but I’m just happy 90s cartoons still get love haha

Same as a girl who is more of a tomboy and is into guys, it sucks lol
I think the original character was supposed to just represent role reversal, which was the thing in the 90s. She was the large butch woman, and Howard was the small guy who did the cooking and cleaning.
@@GeteMachine RIP stay-at-home dad representation.
Great comment! **claps**
Plus this isn't replacing the original, either. So long as it's good quality, it won't retroactively ruin the original via leaving a bad taste in one's mouth while burying the original under articles about the reboot sucking

I've been hearing rumors that if this reboot is successful, hey arnold could return with a new season. I hope that happens as long as it's 2D. I want jimmy neutron back as well. The rugrats reboot is okay imo. Just wish it was 2D.
Yeah, I agree. Newer isn't always better. Cgi tends to age like milk in a lot of cases.
I don’t really want to see a new season of Hey Arnold. The Jungle Movie wrapped things up well enough so there’s no need for another season.
Can we just have a moment of silence for the O.G. voice actors?
Kinda funny how they made Grampa Lou a Hippy instead of having him be a veteran like he was in The Original Series

Something about the style (not the animation) is really throwing me. I know they've tried their best to translate the Klasky-Csupo style but......... :/
I'll say it looks better on some characters than others; Chuckie for example looks pretty good because he has a lot of angles to offset the weird smoothness everything else has.
Kimi's back as a 3 year old. Dil might make a return in season 2
As someone who watched reruns of this show and was around when the show was not quite dead yet (1995), I prefer the seasons with Dil and AGU than this, especially in light of Betty not being married to Howard anymore -
...because in trading another weird stereotype we had (brash, loud woman who clearly sounds and acts unfeminine was seen as a "bulldyke" and often ignored - Howard marrying her was commendable back then because of it) we replaced that with "all women who act like Betty *must be gay."*
I was a tomboy in the mid-90s and liked Betty because she was relatable to me.
Maybe they aren't divorced, maybe Howard's dead.
@@eastsidereviews727 all the articles I read say divorced. I don't know if he makes any appearances but based on what's been said so far it doesn't seem like it
@SweetTooth Exactly, or something, *something* other than this, it feels so wrong and bizarrely fan-pandery.
@@kiannagriffin6631 Exactly. How bold would that be to have co-parenting?
LOL A LESBIAN 😅😅 At least the season 8 theme song still slaps
I like the old Dimension better but I'm willing to give this one a chance 💯
Bet one of their imaginary adventures is them imagining if they grew up with their parents or something, and it would have a moral or something about Nostalgia can make you feel good, but can get you stuck in the past and pushing stuff on kids they may not like (B Plot being Stu finding an old video of his childhood and watching it with Tommy, then noticing he was playing an old game in it and he spends the episode trying to find that game to play it again, only to get it and realize it sucks and he was pushing Tommy to like stuff he liked)
@Logia SD damn they changed other stuff Too?😭 I just heard about them turning Phil & lils mom into a lesbian.
She does still have conflict with Angelica.
She actually IS the same age as Chuckie now. They aged her down.
@@twobitsmickeymouse3439 True though too, I agree. :)
I agree! I always thought of Betty as just being a boisterous feminist so having her turned into a lesbian now is really jarring. I loved the dynamic she and Howard had in the original, it was always really entertaining.
Gonna Try to work Over to get used to the Parents New Voice Actors and POP
Because back then animators we’re actually drawing and coloring the cartoons themselves now everything is mostly digital
Wish they would have rebooted All Grown Up and aged them to high school or even college age.
@Logia SD Grandpa and Chucky's dad are the most jarring
It doesn't look as bad as some other cgi reboots, but the Klasky-Cupo style doesn't really translate well from 2d to 3d. It kind of looks like a spinoff of those GrubHub ads.
Yes!!! And the lighting is weird, it looks like it's constantly sunset

So here is what I'm thinking
Tommy + Kimi have their son, Timmy (looks mostly like baby Tommy but half Japanese).
That's a good idea I like your ideas.
It's a nice idea, but it will never happen.

Dang I didn’t know they did that. And yes I agree that I dislike how having tomboyish qualities means your gay. 😐
i just hope they can make one modern cartoon or modern reboot without being woke for a change...the stuff they are putting in childrens entertainment is really bizarre now!🤦♀️
The sad part is diversity in media that didn’t have it originally can actually be done right [Spider-Man Homecoming]
How so? I'm genuinely curious what you mean by "overproduced audio"
Elizabeth Daily is 60 YEARS old. You do know that right? She’s Over The Hill. Practically a GILF.
Do you mean overcompressed?
WRONG
I grew up watching Rugrats. The reboot's animation style took a bit to get use to, but I dig it
I have a fear for reboots.
@@JordanFringe94 thats true! Will give it a try and hopefully i will like it!
I remember the Reptor Cereal. That was like crack lol
I feel that EG Daily lost her range for Tommy.
EG lost her range for Tommy before the original series was done. I feel like Cheryl has also lost her range for Angelica and Kathy lost her range for Lil.
It also didn’t help that she voiced Buttercup later on when The Powerpuff Girls came out in the late 90’s on Cartoon Network
I mean, you have to give her credit though for at least trying to sound the same, but she is older now and probably just can’t do the voice the same way anymore.
In the teasers she didn’t sound good at all, but in the reboot she sounds alright
Don't say that..🥺😭
I feel like no one aside from myself noticed that in the first episode when Phil and Lil show up in the “hamster ball”, they made Lil’s voice come out of Phil.
Some classic examples:
Betty (talking to Didi, in the episode where Tommy goes nude): "The '60s are over. *We lost."*
Lou (asleep): "Dust bowl, shmust bowl, I ain't goin' to California..."
Certain characters become incoherent, or simply _stop making sense,_ if they aren't transformed almost beyond recognition.
Yeah, some shows are best staying 2D. I like the original animation design for rugrats but I guess everyone likes their differences.
I thought that the reboot is just okay.
The fact that it’s premiere is on Paramount+ kinda makes the retreading of older ground way more noticeable. The streaming service has all 9 seasons of the original Rugrats, so people instantly have a source to compare it to
I haven't stopped by your channel for a while, and I've gotta say... These videos are great!
Thanks so much!!
@@JordanFringe94 also my dad and I met you like 4 years ago at pax, when you were still filming with Alex 😂
Thank god it’s not canon to the original universe’s timeline.
Also in the new shows timeline susie is younger than angelica and is an only child now.
You're just one of those top tier RUclips channels. About a handful of elite channels on this site and you're one of em.
The original had it's strange elements as well.
I’m hoping this series grows and develops into its own thing that I can share with my kids. While also showing them the original from my perspective.
Great video had no idea it was already released so thanks for letting us know.
Thanks so much for watching!
I hate that many kids nowadays don’t even know this masterpiece exists. I’m 12 and I discovered and fell in love with this show when I was 5, woke up, turned on tv, and BAM rugrats movie. I hope more kids fall in love with the series.
Theres just something about the eyes that look vacant and dead half the time, and not like in a way where it feels intended
The new animation style looks fun. I hope they really start to play with it I'm future episodes
Me too, especially when they get into the weirder type visuals from the original show!
I just finished watching the 5 episodes. I noticed how the parents play a larger role in the show as well. I like the show so far. I laughed out loud at some points and noticed some adult humor sprinkled in the show too. Looking forward to the rest of the series :)
Today I learned Jordan’s favorite film is Jurassic Park, and that’s always a plus in my book.
😄
I love that the sounds are familiar for the babies. But the art style is what is throwing me. certain scenes seem still and lifeless that in the original had much more character. I’m excited to see if the show learns from the weirdness of the current situation. Possibly this show can too go through different stages as it progresses and what we’re getting is only the beginning. But as for now I don’t really see how the scenes parallel that distorted child like mindset due to the limited animation style.
Thank goodness I found the original on Hulu this is definitely not for me
I know people are already talking and/or complaining about how the parents are recreated. But I'm still mind-blown about how the parents are finally wearing different clothing.
"This whole channel is powered by nostalgia"
This made me Sub you ✌🏻
Thank you! 😄
Also, some articles I saw say she's now gay [and so does her new VA], others say lesbian, so I dunno if she could be bi, and if they'll explain why Howard is gone through that or not.)
Also tfw Rugrats now has an alternate timeline to confuse things.
