    Super work pat. This kind of info is way under rated. More helpful than what most people would want to care to admit, but I'll be practicing these for sure. Save the bike and my body for this 1st time 40 yr old rider

      Thanks! I hadn’t seen it done and came up with it after my wife had a bad crash that could have easily been saved, so after teaching her some of these I thought it was fitting. It is usually overlooked though!

    So what are some good places to look to find moto trials events to watch in the Midwest? Anything near Des Moines?

    • @PatSmage
      @PatSmage  3 года назад

      There are a few clubs in the Midwest, the WI club, WOTA, has an event in Manchester, Iowa but that’s a bit more eastern. It’s an easy one to watch though. No nationals in the area this year though, Ohio would probably be the closest. Nebraska has locals and regionals in Nehawka as well. There is a nationwide calendar in the works that should help find events a lot easier!

      @@PatSmage It was a trip to Manchester where I happened upon observed trials for the first time. I had 30 minutes free to stay and watch. Your father kindly explained the event.

    I always wondered how the pros get off so gracefully. I figured they were planning where they could bail without killing themselves. You forgot one big one. Whenever I crash and go over the bars, I seem to freeze and ride it right into the ground. Probably the worst thing you can do under the circumstances. Cost me a torn up shoulder, rotator cuff and capsule. I have seen you jump over the handlebars when you had to. Do you practice that too or is it just instinct?

    • @PatSmage
      @PatSmage  3 года назад +1

      Ouch! Hope you have healed up or are doing so well. Guess I didn’t feel like going over the bars that day, haha! That one was something I learned as it happened and didn’t try to practice it. Sometimes there is nothing you can do, but the more it happens the earlier you can feel it coming, and the better you can prepare for it. If you see it coming in time, you can usually jump off the pegs to one side of the bars, and keep holding on. Takes some strength but sometimes you can keep the bike upright. Other times you just have to jump straight over and ditch the bike, just try not to clip the bars. That’s usually the most scary way to crash!

    Glad you did this vid, think my wee girl thought it was a bit weird that I teach her how to fall off/ditch her Oset, I have been vindicated, tho I am not the best at falling off...it's usually not very pretty :o)
