I loved how Jessie's two-legged brother's and sister's told mom, "Don't worry about Christmas this year, just help Jessie." To me, that is the perfect sign their parents raised "healthy-minded" children.

@@FukaiKokoro Probably just bolted, it happens. We had a Labrador x mystery hound mix that would try to bolt sometimes if she saw or smelled something and tried to give chase. She was rarely successful in ripping the leash out of our hands and we'd have to hop in the truck and go after her (80 acres of farmland in the middle of nowhere on back roads). We almost always caught her before she went too far. One time, she got picked up by Dog Control before we found her and we had to go bail her out of dog jail!
We never let her off-leash, we had a 50' lead staked into the ground and kept her on that if she wanted to be outside. She passed of old age in her sleep at nearly 15 and I cried nearly as much as I did when I lost my uncle. I grew up with that dog, it was like losing a part of me.

My dog has the same fear with his paws! There's nothing physically wrong with them, but he freaks out if you even touch them. He's 16 years old now and just as feisty about getting his nails clipped. He's a Borgie (border collie and corgi mix) so he's relatively small, and yet I still can't manage to clip his nails by myself! I went to one local vet/groomers and they were going to charge me around $500 usd to sedate him and cut his nails! 😱 I couldn't afford it, so I started grooming him myself. Whenever it's time to clip his nails I always need at least one other person's help. One person holds him while covering his eyes with a towel and talking calmly to him, and the other clips as quickly and safely as possible. I've tried multiple different nail cutting products that are supposed to help, like the ones that are supposed to grind the nail instead of cut. But the quickest way is the regular old pet nail clippers. It's always an ordeal, but we've never had an accident with cutting the quick or anything. And once it's over he acts like nothing happened. 🤷

That's so crazy to me. Our family black lab, Sophie, literally sees us cutting the cats claws and will come sit and hold up her paw because she wants to get her nails clipped too! So we have to fake clip her nails when she doesn't need them done or else she gets sas haha. She's such a good girl.

BionicBear my dog is the same exact way the best thing you should do is bring the nail clippers around him and when he doesn’t freak treat him and call him a good boy and just keep bringing the nail clippers closer to his feet while treating good behavior and not treating the bad behavior. It takes a lot of time, effort, and energy but worth a try.

My dog hurt her back and kept falling like crazy and was shaking. I took her to the vet and they gave me steroids to give her and they said if they don't help she would need surgery that I couldn't afford. She got worse in the next few days she got to the point she couldn't walk and had no feeling in her legs. But I kept her in a kennel so she wouldn't be moving around or putting a lot of strain on her back. She lost all feeling in her legs and feet. You could pinch between her toes and she couldn't feel it and had no reaction. I was feeding her and cleaning her kennel like crazy. every few days I'd pinch between her toes to see if she could feel it. week after week nothing. Then one day i pinch and i thought she moved her foot a little bit but I wasn't sure so i pinched again and nothing. then a few days later i pinched nothing, then about a week later i swear again she moved her foot a little. then later i'd pinch she'd pull her foot back, then i knew she could feel it.then she got to the point she started to drag her legs behind her after i let her out of the kennel. Leaving a trail of pee behind her. :( then about two more weeks later she started to lift herself up on the legs but was still dragging them. then she started to take a few very messed up steps only a few and dragging them again, then she started to walk on them again but would randomly fall down, It took a good 6 to 8 months for her to start to walk half normal and a good year before she was totally back to normal. Now she runs around like nothing ever happened. she was like 2 years old when she went thru this and now she is 8 years old.

I know each treatment is a different cost but vet bills are so high here in the states, I wonder if they are really high in Australia. Some of these surgeries like fusion of a spine would be so costly often the dog’s owners here sadly would be traumatized and guilty as they would have to have their beloved pet humanely put down because they simply couldn’t afford the vet bills. On this wonderful show I’ve seen hip and knee replacements, a huge variety of treatments, days spent at the vet, at home vet care, so it seems in Australia there are no issues with the costs indicating vet bills might be lower there or the pet owners showed on the show have really good incomes.

It's high everywhere relative to the income of the country.
We had to spend like over 60k for treatment of our dog which is 3 months average salary in my country. Most of the money was spent on injections and medicine.
The dog had a blood RBC destroying disease similar to malaria called babescia. The dog was near death's door and if we hadn't taken the dog to the vet hospital the dog would have died very young like only 1 years of age. Now he will be 5 years old in January.

I'm guessing the show may take care of the bills in exchange for allowing the pets to be shown. It's a very emotional show and I am surprised how much the owners are included-it actually feels real, which is the sign of a great show-running team, in my opinion as a former production assistant in the film industry. I really appreciate the variety, the humor, and the deeply empathetic caring approach.

Watching these really makes me wish I'd tried to become a vet, as it was my childhood dream.
Dazza reminds me of a sweet pug I got to help with nail clipping. She was smaller, but no less wriggling. It was like trying to hold onto a pike with fur xD

Dogs like to bite wasps. I've had one going after a mud wasp who's only crime was foraging for mud for its nest.

I have a older dog that hates anything done to her..I put a plastic cone collar around her neck. I learned that if I give her a bath with the cone collar on than that relaxes her a bit and than I clip her nails she does pretty good. The latest edition I have mad to the collar was putting velcro on it for easy on easy off :) keep my hands safe and gets the job done..maybe that can help you guys out too :)

    Tbh.
My dog NEVER needs her nail clipped (we only ever cut the ones that dont touch the ground)
When she goes on walks and that files down her nails.
So if your dogs tails are way to long you probally arent taking them on enough walks on ground that can file down their nails

Watching this now it really hits hard with the 11 year old dog being hit by a car and not knowing if she will ever walk again. I haven't experienced that but I almost lost my 16 year old German shepherd this last year she ended up getting a really bad infection in her tail and we still don't know how it started and her being 16 there wasn't much of a chance of her pulling through but my old girl is a fighter and now the infection is fully gone and she's got hair back on her tail. I'm so grateful that we were able to save her because she means so much to my family and I.
