You know he’s experienced. He knew exactly what the situation was. Left his tools and found his inner electric slide.
He should have pierced the trunk in the center leaving decent hinges and then cut from the center toward the exterior. Thats if he had any doubt the wood wasn't sane.
It's common and known knowledge among lumberjacks that cutting a tree may never go as expected, that's the most dangerous part about the job
As a faller I can comment on this. There's alot of unexpected in trees. Such as what is seen in this video. Personally I wouldn't rate him as experienced. I would rate him as more of a dumbass. Yes I have had my moments of dumbassory. He'll my latest was 2 weeks ago. I was drunk showing off for friends. My dumbassory was more related to messing my saw up good right after getting it serviced. Any 9ne with half a brain would know to move out of the way. Anyone with a brain would know to run towards the camera instead of to the right in this particular case. I could see it as soon as the tree started to crack
Well he wouldn’t if it hadn’t gotten pinched up, I saw he attempted to take it out but it wouldn’t come.

That’s one of those situations where you really don’t know which way to run, but you know you have to! Hopefully he went the right way and escaped that train wreck of a tree!

@@supremesloth105probably not. You really have no way of knowing which way the branches are going to fall and the subsequent snapping that comes from it. Eg the tree splinters on the way down you can get a lot of pieces coming down like daggers. Best to get as far out as you can but you have to watch the top of the tree to see which way its going

@@nuttibuddy if you payed attention, you can see that around the base of the tree there like 3 feet where nothing has fallen on. If you’re running or standing up there’s a possibility you get hit with the kickback and risk falling hard. What would you like to protect? The neck is the most vulnerable part of your body besides the head, which is already protected by a big helmet.

One of the first thing I was taught when felling trees, always have your Escape Plan ready. Safety is no accident
We learnt the 9 steps to cut down a tree
1 find the tree,
2 determine which the way the tree most likely to fell towards and determine which way you want the tree to fell
3 check for disease
4. Prune the trunk.
5. chose technic and tools
6. prepare your escape routes (at least two and cut out any vegetation on these paths)
7.clean the site of the cut (the vegetation around the tree in a 1 or 1.5 m radius too see what you doing.
8. Cut down the tree
9. Trim every leftover from the trunk.

@@2jjulian so yk how we can get diseases and it can spread? Well trees can get diseases too and it can spread. Also in addition poison ivy and other stuff could be on it. But other than that it might also be that it might affect the cutting process.
@@2jjulian if the tree has disease, for example wich roted the trunk inside than it can crack up like in the video or if it caused to some branch withered and threatening to fall of if I cut the tree or the roots roted away and when i try to take down the tree it can turn the roots out of the ground and hit me.
You're correct, and theres a reason he finished where he did, he was anticipating this very thing happening the whole time. When you cut snags this sort of thing can happen and does happen. Many times they will cripple (notch and a smaller back cut)a tree like this as much as possible without causing a catastrophic even such as this, and then fall another tree onto it. Even if it only takes out part of the tree, the reduced weight is many times enough to reduced the chance of a catastrophic failure(of the tree, not the faller).
He did well knowing what was likely to happen.

That right there is what they call a “widow maker”
Actually it’s called a barber chair. Widow makers are pieces of trees stuck way up high on another tree that can come dislodged at the smallest gust of wind and fall on your head. You are always supposed to look up through the canopy of the forest before you walk through it to check for widow makers.

That was the gnarliest thing I've ever seen. I've never seen a tree do anything close to that. It was almost like it was so angry to be cut down it did everything it could to divide itself in as many directions as possible to get even with the axman.

This is what’s called a widowmaker tree. Looks all normal outside, but like a ticking time bomb it can fall at any given moment.
The term “widowmaker” in terms of trees is usually referring to a “snag” /dead tree or a tree with a dead broken branch that is hung up in other branches that will fall on the feller. This tree had some crazy twist tension

3 things. Your escape path should always be at a 45° angle away from direction of falling tree. 2- notch should be a 1/3 of diameter. Last thing . Back cut should be above notch. Watch video again and see if I'm right. I've Been Arborist for 44 years

When a tree does that it is called "Barber Chair" and is about the most dangerous thing a tree can do when cutting it down, beside the widow makers that fall from the tree.
This one barber chaired because of insect infestation I believe. You can tell that because of all the dry dust that came out and filled the air. There bad enough but do tend to fall closer to the trunk but it throws pieces of log and wood everywhere and with power.
The worst ones are when a healthy tree barber chairs. It may have a defect in the trunk.
After the notch cut, you start cutting your hing cut. When it splits open it is living so it's got great tension built up inside when it starts to fall.
It will split and slap the crap out of you and kill you. The tree has so much tension it can jump up and land anywhere.
That's the whole barber shop. It's crazy . I've seen it happen before. Some are slow some I saw snap so fast crazy. Stay safe.
