Could you explain why my fathers mersedes benz w126 560 sel 1989 decides to shifts in 1 gear on the highway that happen after we had gone 160 km/h But on the way back where we did Not go faster than 130 it did Not happen so we think it is Some kind of high pressure issue
Please help I have w124 with 104.980 engine everything good transmission very smoother shifting the issue i seen transmission fluid into intake manifold its pure oil not mixed or anything please help
If i replace my gearbox in the w124 e220 111 engine with a w202 c220 that also has 111 engine, will the gearbox be able to shift without coding it? because I also have reverse gear failure
Lol. I moved and shop was far. And for most part I never liked to work indoors. I like space. I usually do not work on transmissions, this was one rare case I took on it. My specialty is electrical work so I do not need a shop for that. I have workshop setup in the basement and work on cars outside. Pretty happy with that. If one has fully stocked clean shop but does not know what to do- it means nothing. If I need to do one-off job but do not have a shop I can still do it on my lap, lol.
Hi Victor, I have a 2000 SL500 with 57k miles, and today, it would not go into reverse. I then shifted it into drive then reverse worked again. Strange. Other times, when the car is cold before the car is warmed up, it takes like two to three seconds to engage to reverse from park. I also feel a little grinding during the engagement. But that's when the car is cold. Any ideas what might be causing it not to go into reverse? Thanks.
Could you indcate where the safety nutual switch is? Like in the video time line. And also which way do you turn the vacumm valve to loosen up the shifts.
This is exactly the issue I have on my '95 SL320 that I'm restoring. It has 89,000 miles and the reverse gear is shot. It will engage only when the car is very cold, but after it's been driven a while it won't engage at all. Forward gears are fine. How much do you charge for this repair?
@@williamatchison6261 how long have you driven it like that ? I'm looking at a 300 without reverse . I'm thinking of driving it without reverse until it goes all the way out . Any idea if the trans will stay working in forward for a good while ? TIA
When you restore the entire transmission (every gear) do you have to reinstall it to check the tolerances are perfect? If they are not perfect what is the consequence? I have issue with 2nd-3rd gear being quite sharp but I have heard that is normal. Certainly the other shifts are gentler.
Yeah, friction disks and brake bands spacing need to be checked and adjusted if necessary. Also, valve body might have wear or weak springs. All those factors influence shifts. I rebuild my own tranny many years ago and didnt check spacing much, just eye balled it. It too shifts a bit harder 2-3. But I have another core I was going to do right but never had time. So driving it as it is. Shoemaker is barefoot, lol
I am repairing my 722.3 on a 1994 E420. Heavy contact on piston and spring cap but reverse still works. Need new reverse friction disks but need a good supplier. Who do you recommend for the friction disks?
@@vsandvs I have reinstalled and reverse is good but I have small leak in pump. I replaced paper gasket and o’ring and torque converter seal. It seems to leak under pressure when driving but not when sitting for days. What might be the cause? I did NOT use thread sealant on the pump bolts. Want to be sure before pulling it again.
I have never seen the inside of an automatic gear box so was really interested to learn how it works. I learned nothing here. Your explanation was very disjointed about what you did go over. Also I really don't care about the jackstands one bit just the gear box. Since you said you used to work on them it would be good if you would do a video demonstrating how it works and all the parts in it. I really am interested.
Video made for a customer who shipped his car to me across the country. I do need to show customers what is done before taking their money. Maybe someone finds it helpful. I can take this video down since customer already saw it and made payment
lol i won't say anything about your comment now but you can already guess in which direction it would go, so if you didn't learn anything in this video, why did you watch it then :D no one was forcing you to do so Cheers and wish you can appreciate people who take the efford to do such a video more in the future
Reverse is typically used at very low speed for just a few metres so what causes all the wear? A design flaw? Can the 722.6 suffer too? Thanks.
Thanks. This is so helpful
Very informative.Thank you!
Sigh this happened to my 96 e320 @180k miles. Now the great debate of whether the fix is worth the cost for this car.
I just bought a 1987 300sdl that only has reverse and no foreward.
Any idea what the problem is.
My 722.3 has no 1st gear even if i manually try start in 1st gear. Do you have any advice for me?

@@MmNn-mp3lh tranny fluid cannot get into the intake. It's engine oil. A little engine oil can be found in the intake due to PCV system.
I have a 95 c280 that's doing the same shit I don't know much about internal parts in trans might gotta take it to a shop
Yeah. Need to take it to transmission shop and have them diagnose it. Proper rebuild is around $3000 as os July of 2019

Nice video. The work area needs to be straightened up. Why don't you have your shop anymore? Did the dog get it in the separation?

That's 722.6 transmission. This video doesn't apply to yours.
I can't say what can be wrong. Need to see the car.

Clockwise to firm shifts , counterclockwise to loosen shifts. Neutral safety switch is the one with large round connector on driver side
Torque Converter,....
Hey Victor my 1997 S500 Mercedes will not upshift. but it will reverse fine I change my conductor plate. And solenoid's. Still will not upshift help
Can't say what's wrong. Clear codes from tranny ECU
W210 722.5 here - guess i can toss it because i got no knowledge of transmission rebuilds - oh well!

You can buy rebuild kit on eBay or tranny rebuilders online. Or get OEM frictions at the dealer
