Even then, how did a combination of Holloway DNA, Shaw DNA, and pathogen recombine into an embryo and redesign it to function specifically as a mechanism for depositing another egg that would spawn the Deacon alien? The Trilobite's rapid growth without nutrients (unless ALL ALIENS "eat" by absorbing gases from the air) is just ridiculous. The nature of the pathogen is to utilize the DNA it comes into contact with and exploit it. So how did the trilobite grow larger than a human being if its base source are human DNA? The best thing about Prometheus was the notion that the origins of life aren't necessarilly a beautiful thing, the way religion and other ideologies would have us believe. It can actually be something incredibly nasty by human standards. That's why Cameron's own musings on the DVD extras are so disappointing. He talks about God and creation like some some kind of born again Christian. Thank goodness none of that came through in the final film.

I thought this was the stupidist thing in the movie and broke my suspension of disbelief. How in hell did the a creature the size of a cat, locked in a medbay with no food or water, grow into a creature the size of a couch in less than 24 hours? I can accept a lot in a sci-fi movie but this just made me say "No". Just no. I guess a wizard did it.

Jitterbug Will Wrong. To grow every creature needs nutrients to be able to grow and there was no food, water or even sunlight where it was trapped meaning even if it had photosynthesis like a plant it still couldn't have grown to that size.
TheShadowOfHumanity Movies don't follow facts though, it was an embryo inside Shaw growing alarmingly quick. She probably did not eat or drink anything prior to that event or at least not much. That thing probably fed off of the bacteria in the air.
There was no food for EARTH like creatures it has long been thoerized that alines eats polymers and metals to build thamselves that is why they have a metalic like carapace/skin so I could have eaten utensils glass and other things that we can lo longer see also in the movie we cant see so maybe it ate part of the walls or floor, and he may be so effective as a living being that he gets all the energy of food no need for sunlight

The best thing about Prometheus was the notion that the origins of life aren't necessarilly a beautiful thing, the way religion and other ideologies would have us believe. It can actually be something incredibly nasty by human standards. That's why Cameron's own musings on the DVD extras are so disappointing. He talks about God and creation like some some kind of born again Christian. Thank goodness none of that came through in the final film.

I think that Trilobite is first one of his kind because it never happend before (propably) but that Deacon is first sign of Xenomorphs so I presume Xenemorphs could exist thousands years like we saw in in AVP 1.
