Hello Cuiv, you definitely look better then a few videos ago; good to see that you recovered well and can't wait to see the pictures that you'll come up with. g.
You’re alive! might of joined the search and rescue party. Im still waiting on mine. But connected it to QHY168c. Its been a solid performer when everyone was jumping to zwo they just seemed to have less quality complaints. Its a piece of right pain to connect it all, but works well. Remember you need to use it in a specific mode when connecting it directly to the camera, and then pick the correct drivers ascom, but if you want to directly connect via usb say you have a zwo you need to ensure you have usb drivers installed which are supposed to be in the all in one package but aren’t in nina you pick r232 option not ascom. and you need to click the selector switch with a pin once started and it changes colour u think red usb green is onbard camera which uses the ascom driver. I used it all together and tried nina for the first time everything is working after some issues with autofocus which the guys on the discord fixed pretty quickly. So far its reliable i set it to the whole sequence and even multisequence and worked well. i wake up to all my subs done. just need to automate flats better as narrowband takes ages i use the pegasus flat master which nina connects to. it was having issues with driver. All in all glad your well and hopefully you hooked it all up. i’m running all my power requirement including to my intel nuc/travel usb router via the pegasus powerbox. I wish one option is to specify focuser position in the sequencer.
Thanks for all the advice! I have some upcoming videos, but I did manage to connect everything together and everything seems to be working fine, including in NINA, which is great! My whole setup is now QHY cameras for both imaging and guiding, QHY FW, and a ZWO EAF for focusing!
Yes, you got a normal QHY setup. My 268C came with all of that stuff. Identical contents. That little metal tube is a desiccant attachment. I've never used mine before. Welcome back!
Look forward to seeing this I just got the 2600 but was considering the color version of this too. Great channel for those getting into dedicated cameras like me. 🙂👍
Awesome! Great to see a new video. I'm eagerly awaiting a 268C myself. That little silver tube is a desiccant holder, if there is ever an issue of condensation inside the chamber between the sensor and the heated window you can screw the desiccant tube onto an aperture somewhere along the side of the camera body to remove the moisture. Or at least I think this is the case!
Nice to see you back. You should enter that monthly QHY competition on unboxing your gear. You have literally done that here. Looking forward to more content.
Generally, inside the box there is a little notice to send some unboxing media such as a photo to a particular email address or perhaps Facebook Qhyccd group. The prize is (was perhaps) drawn monthly. I never got around to it but this video is the best other than my 16200A unboxing. :)
Nice to see you back mate! Yes, I have the Qhy163M with the same filter wheel and it came with all the accessories as well... loved the packaging as well... can’t wait for the next video, that camera is a beast!!!
First off, nice to see you back. Hope you are feeling much better. Look forward to seeing this camera in action, but hope you’ve got a strong focuser to hold that weight! Trouble with QHY now is price. The ZWO gear is a lot cheaper. My first guide cam was a QHY5L. It lasted about a year then failed. The drivers were poor as was tech support. Hope the company has improved now. Good luck with the setup. Hope you have no issues. They seem to have put a lot of adapters etc in the package. Good to see. I got a power supply with my QSI660wsg-8 and a pelican case but it was horrendously expensive! It’s my main gripe with ZWO - they really should put a power supply in the package. Have fun with the new kit. Clear skies.
Thanks John! I looked at the ZWO vs QHY prices on this camera and filter wheels though, it seems remarkably similar... Ohhh yes, QSI is very, very expensive! But that is a very nice camera! Clear skies!
@@CuivTheLazyGeek You are right, the prices are similar. I think QHY may have realised they have strong competition. As I’d like anything I buy to work with the ASIAir pro though (which has worked well for me) other brands are not an option sadly. On a plus, NINA (which I learned from your videos) is working brilliantly with my QSI660 and other non ZWO kit. Look forward to seeing some images from the QHY.
Quiv! My mate! You've been missed. Good to see your video pop up on my feed. I'm still waiting to get first light on my QHY268M. You are right that it takes planning when considering QHY adaptor ecosystem. I've found the build quality to be superb on the QHY286M - and everything supplied in the box. I'm sure this quality extends to all cameras in their lineup. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
You hit the nail on the head about why people tend to go for ZWO. Adapters and how to put QHY parts together is hard to understand and figure out, and their documentation is problematic. I'm an ASI1600MM-P user. However, I think that QHY cameras are technically better due to (amongst other things) their ability to handle moisture and condensation. I think the new QHY268M will be my next camera.
...and I think I spend half my time at work drawing diagrams of flatteners, OAGs, Filter wheels or drawers and cameras, including all the different ways their adapters string them all together for the correct back focus! At least QHY has now begun to produce adapter kits for specific combos.
Well, I'm not gonna get either of these, but thanks for the EDPH II setup in the background - mounting the focusser upside down is exactly what I need!
I got a QHY camera and 8-filter wheel....and they are great together. Make sure the wheel is in usb mode. Use a paper clip in the bigger if the two holes to reach the switch.
Hey Cuiv. Any chance you could do a complete beginners guide to astro cameras? How to connect, what's required etc for NINA? Cooling etc? Dark libraries... I just got my 2600MC and it's a lot to take in! Your guides have been awesome so far for me with NINA setup.
Looks like QHY have send an 268M to every astro RUclipsr there is, nice advertisement of them .(yes they come with power adapters) Great unboxing video Quiv 👍 Always love your video's and yes you have absolutely been missed. Would be great if you could compare it with the ZWO equivalent ASI2600MM PRO, that would make the most interesting video now on YT
I'm looking forward to getting the QHY 268C. I don't have time to mess with a filter wheel yet. When I retire in a few years and I can devote more time to this wonderful hobby, then I'll get the 268M and the Filter Wheel and all the filters. Looks like QHY is now making the 54MM to 48MM adapter so it can adapt to most field flatteners and such. That to was a concern for me. The ZWO ASI 2600 uses the same sensor at the QHY 268. And their specs are almost identical. Which I must say are quite impressive. And the photos I've seen look fantastic. Because of the 50K deep well capability I notice the stars don't bloat as much. I really can't wait to get this camera. But they are all on backorder. I don't know anyone who has one in stock. ;o(
Nice to see you again Cuiv! And a great camera from what I've seen so far on other channels. But it won't be for me, as I'm running everything through a ZWO ASIAIR. And I highly doubt that ZWO will start supporting many other camera brands. So, I'm somewhat "stuck" in the ZWO range unless I completely invest in computers and overhaul my entire setup. For now I'm happy enough with my ASI 183MM pro anyway.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the camera Cuiv. I got an email from QHY about working with me. Of course my channel is tiny compared to yours, but they wanted me to buy one then do a review?! At least they sent you one for almost free lol
Don't be afraid of the spacing kit. It looks intimidating but is very well thought out and lets you fiddle with the back focus if your flattener or reducer isn't exactly at the design spec, as can happen. And yes, what you got is exactly the standard kit, power brick and all. These cameras require external power to work at all, not like the ZWO cameras that only use that power for cooling. This means if you connect the camera's power to something like a Pegasus Powerbox, you can reboot it by killing the power, rather than having to go unplug a USB cable.
Glad to see you on your balcony again! Looking forward to watching your results videos with the new camera on the 61EDPH, especially hoping that you get to compare with the Radian Raptor that OPT promised to send you for testing! Like you I have the SharpStar version which is going great with my Canon EOS and I’m thinking about upgrading to the ZWO 2600 or the QHY equivalent cooled APS-C size sensor, although probably staying with OSC. By the way do you use the AZGTi with the 61EDPH?
Unfortunately I haven't received the Radian Raptor! I haven't pushed back either to be honest... I used the AZ-GTi with the 61EDPH without issues! But I haven't had the strength to go portable imaging recently...
I connected the QHY268C ->spacers (to achieve 55mm back focus) -> Starizona filter drawer -> RedCat51 which works great. All-in-1 driver + Beta for QHY268M/C + EZCap QY software. Works great with NINA
Oh, yah - the cylinder is for desiccant, which you have to buy, plus cotton, in the end, to keep it from getting into your camera. Goes where the slotted flat screw is on the front of the camera. The middle of that screw is where the sensor depth is. Measure from the lip of the rotator to the middle of the screw for 21mm back focus.
36 mm filters. First I have heard of them. A bit of Googling tells me that they have good coverage for APS-C, are cheaper than 2", and save you money on the filter wheel. But you can't get a 36 mm L-eXtreme. That leads me to wonder if there are other desirable filters that I'd miss if I committed to 36 mm for the filter wheel. Cuiv and followers, please educate me.
You are right, most 36mm filters are single band filters (LRGBSHO), and I think there is a 36mm version of the Astronomik CLS-CCD filter. But otherwise they're not frequent - you're expected to just use a mounted filter for OSC cameras...
Not with the lesser models. My QHY178c and QHY183c, neither came with power adapters, only with cigar lighter plugs. Maybe it's regional or select stores get different packaging, I don't know. Someone else got the same exact camera I did and his came with a power adapter. I don't get it.
I was starting to worry about you, it's been too long. I'm looking to start my monochrome journey later this year with either this camera or the ZWO ASI2600M. I'm curious to see your results.
The 12v RJ cable is necessary if you connect through usb to an unpowered usb hub and you are not using a QHY camera... that wheel draws a lot of power which an unpowered hub can't provide so you end up having constant disconnects... that little piece of information is deeply buried in the QHY site so it took me a while to figure it out...
