HowdiniGuru and you can use whatever your favorite cake mix is. For this video we just use a Betty Crocker boxed mix and followed the directions. Easy Peasy! :)

the food color gel should be available at most grocery store in the baking isle next the regular food coloring and you can use any size of off set spatula. We prefer a med. size one.

thank you liv Hansen and howdini I have watched all your videos and tips and made a minion cake yesterday for my 2 yr old boy he loved was yelling and dancing with happiness it was a surprise cake I made the arms and legs with licorice with frosting the hands with dark m&m the eyes with white frosting a mini cookie and m&m the glasses with melted chocolate instead of piping gel I didn't have a rubber spatula so I bought a red Betty crocker
I LOVE these cakes! I love that you don't use fondant, because I don't like that, but I love frosting :D And it looks so sweet and yummy and really well done! I'd LOVE to make cakes like this! And I'm happy for your tips because it makes it all easier :D
You could not ice it. Or, maybe you can try fondant, but I think that would be a bit tricky. If you are able to keep it chilled maybe you can use "cool whip?"
