    Maggie may have been videoed as she recorded her vocal track, (unless she sent it from Nashville earlier) Sammie and Chase are singing along to the mixed recording. Guest mandolin player Brian Lewis, Raleigh/Durham NC - The Durham Ukulele Orchestra. Greg Scohier (former Mustang) playing banjo on keyboard. Doug Godbold violin, live soundman for the Mustangs and F&F since 2014. He gives "final listen" to the studio recordings when Tim thinks they're ready for Maggie to post on YT.

    You heard Our Lips are Sealed. Sammie and Maggie singing in sync without even looking at each other.

    Henceforth, whenever the Dixie Chicks perform this, they will be covering F&F’s. They now OWN this song!

    Jeff, You know I set you up right? I introduced you to the band the way a lot of folks encounter them with one of the songs in the first set I sent you. Then I added Brian on Mandolin on Aimee. You have gotten comfortable with all the players now. So this one added two more, one who played in the live concert video but you probably didn't notice - I don't recall if he played on Road to Forever. You've seen Darwin, Toby, Tim, and John do what they do and in darn near every video and some of the best harmonies you will ever hear on pop/country songs from the girls (and Tim and Darwin). What is magical about this group is they seem like the "family" next door. You listen to their voices and you may not say "wow, that is the best singer I have ever heard" but if you go and listen to the original song they are covering invariably you end up feeling the songs are as good as or better than the original. And they always make it look easy. What more could you want?

    When I first heard this group during the pandemic, I was hooked. I don't know what it is about them, but I keep coming back to listen to their music. There is some kind of magic in their delivery and overall performance that is addicting. Each and every one of them are top notch vocalist and or musicians. If you listen to "The Mustangs" whom had some of these original band members in it, you can see and hear the quality of their performances; add in the foxes, and you have a steller group up there with some of the best. I recommend "Maneater" by the aforementioned "Mustangs".......you are sure to be impressed!

    This song evokes emotion so easy....why?

  • @dmfjkc
    @dmfjkc 3 месяца назад +8

    Thanks Ralph and Jeff for this, I find this song to be particularly beautiful lyrically and musically. I appreciate the art in songs with other types of emotion, drama, issues, but I find plenty of that in real life, and prefer this sort of uplifting message/story in the music I want to listen to. It also hits home that this recording coincided with Maggie's engagement and marriage. This one is especially rich with the inclusion of the fret-less bass, mandolin, violin, extra keys and the people playing them. Maggie really hits hard and strong with her voice and emotion in it and Sammie pleases with her super-high harm, and all these things combine into what seems like a pinnacle of what they've done and can do. I suspect that Tim and helpers had an especially large amount of work to get the audio and video production done on this one. I do feel a little guilty as an internet fan (not part of the local-town early-days fans) in that I (presumably some we) have come to expect so much of them now, and to do this without "cheating" with tools like pitch correction and the vocal line s/w you described. Also similar to your admission, I'm not a country music fan, but these guys are opening me more up to this, at least in the fuzzy genre lines.

    This is the pinnacle of vocal and instrumental...for any group. These folks play and sing their hearts out, seemingly without effort...simply amazing. And having viewed some of their 'live' performances, their songs probably don't require a lot of 'technical magic'. Like you, I'm really not a fan of country...or western...but F&F makes it very entertaining. If you listen to the Dixie Chicks version, it doesn't hold a candle to this one.

    so sweet. tyvm for posting jeff.
    that bass sounds sooooo good, and the girls are at their best, as always.
    the thing about F&F that i really appreciate is the pickin'. always above par.
    i got hooked on country back in the '80s when CMT started to broadcast. i was always a classic rock and jazz freak, but now my playlist is packed with country artists.

    Jeff, thank you so much for explaining as someone mentioned the “forensics” of making audio tracks, stracks and vocalizations. Truly fascinating to get some sense of the work behind the scenes.. I’ve marveled and loved the music of F&F for several years and really appreciated the amazing audio the Tim has worked his magic on. Your explanation here is very very enlightening. Thanks.

    Check out the "Reunions" Concert they did about 2 years ago. They sound just as good live as they do on video. Watch them and you'll be convinced: "Nah, they're so good, so tight, they don't need no stinkin' Vocaline!".

      Even so, Tim has mentioned that Patreon has really been what has made it worthwhile. I am pretty sure they have to share a cut of the RUclips money in royalties to the original artists of the songs they cover.

      @@rgoersYes, most of the YT revenue goes to the rights holders of the song, (The original artists generally have sold the rights to the big music companies) Probably as much or more income comes from patreon supporters. The AJC article said total revenue in 2020 was over 300k. Divided by 8 band members not that big of number but how many hobbies pay anything? The views have dropped off considerably after the lockdowns ,but patreon didn't start until Dec 2020.

      Look at the beginning of the song. Greg-Schoheir is playing the Faux-Banjo on his keyboard. If we are comparing, I don't see a mandolin anywhere on stage in the Chicks version.

    A different F&F video; a really big bite! Covering "Midnight Cruiser" from Steely Dan, stripped down before Phil Spector got it. Just kidding, Spector had NOTHING to do with Steely Dan. Anyway, a good swing and a stand-up double on this one. ruclips.net/video/UiCYK-C35n4/видео.html&ab_channel=FoxesandFossils
