What I find confusing about the timeline is how in season 1 Amanda mentions that Anthony is 10, but in season 4 Kenny says “get ready for high school next year”
I don't know, it never occurred to me that timeline was confusing. For me start of season 1 was always 2017, but I guess I can understand why it was confusing for some people
Haven't seen the video yet, but it's not that confusing: Season 1 was August 2017 to May 2018 Season 2 was May 2018 - September 2018 and Season 3 was September 2018 - December 2018.
Season 1 started in the summer of 2017. It ended May 2018. Season 2 was summer of 2018. Season 3 ended December 19th 2018. It's actually not confusing at all.
It was pretty straightforward until S3 retconned everything. S1 was intended to be in 2018, and S2 was intended to be in 2019, and the game further supports this.
@@StryfetheWarrior the game is not canon. Season 3 retconned nothing. The idea was season 1 ended May 2018 and was also released May 2018. Show time and real time were the closest then (about 2 weeks apart.) Obviously for story reasons the show stayed in 2018. The easiest tell: the two tournament dates May 19, 2018 and May 18, 2019 are both Saturdays. That's when karate tournaments are held as they're all day events.
The game is its own canon, but it also seems to revolve around S2 events and also introduced concepts that were to come in S3. The series was intended to be in 2018 when it launched back on RUclips, and the game also supports this with dialogue. If it always intended to be in 2017, why didn't they just say "August 2017" instead of "present day?" They usually indicate dates/years when need be as early as the original Karate Kid movie.
@@StryfetheWarrior oh I think 'Present Day" is just a stylistic choice to give it a more timeless feel. It eases the viewer into the narrative. So even though the show is literally taking place at a specific point in time it doesn't really emphasize that. They won't really at least until the show catches up to the quarantines of 2020 but that's not till season 5 at least. Hayden described the game as a "Parallel universe." While there may be some fun nods and Easter Eggs you can't really use it to conclude things about the show. Same with the comics.
They (one of the writers, can't remember if it was Hayden or not) also confirmed that Season 3 nods would be put in the game before the game/S3 came out, and I was the first who deduced who Shawn was before anybody else did because of the game. The game also hinted at the Tom Cole story arc, so I think you can't conclude everything from the games/comics, but you can with some things. 🤷♂️
Hawk "broke" Demitri's shoulder and it usually takes 2 months for it to fully heal but you could do activities after 2 weeks. With that being said we can assume the Arcade fight happened between October-Early December bc Season 3 takes place 2 weeks after the S2 finale leaving us on Late September
I'd also like to point out that The Good, The Bad, and the Badass has to take place December 18, as does the intro to Feel the night. Everything from Johnny/Carmen's morning after to Kreese vs Daniel and Johnny is December 19, and I would have to assume the end of Season 3/start of Season 4 is December 20/21. Edit: you Americans are weird. In New Zealand our school years start in February and end in December. Way smarter decision than just an awkward break in the middle of a year.
Everything in episode 8 from the town hall onwards is on December 18. The first part of that episode does appear to take place over a few days, since when Sam and Miguel catch Yasmine and Demetri making out in the hallway, Demetri's right arm is still in a cast, but in the very next scene at Miyagi-Do, Demetri's had the cast cut off.
Season 1 is Late 2017 to May 2018 Season 2 is 2018 Season 3 is late 2018 Season 4 is Early 2019 to May 19 2019(All Valley) Final 2 episodes are the All Valley in May 19 2019
The reason the timeline always bugged me is because these kids are supposed to be the same age as me (born 2002) so they would be in the same grade as me(starting senior year in fall 2019) but they changed that to be their junior year instead? If it’s 2018 again then that makes sense I guess
Thanks for doing this video, this is one of the biggest questions I had with the show, I get so confused about the Timeline and the age of Miguel, We know he is 16 in season 1 and 17 in Season 3... Apparently. When is his birthday?
If Season 1 was changed to start in 2017 instead of 2018. Was Samantha LaRusso in Season 1 driving underage at 15 years old? Instead of 16? If LaRusso Auto opened in summer 2002 with Sam born soon after. I agree with the idea Cobra Kai was supposed to start in End of Summer 2018, especially after the old RUclips trailer saying 34 years after the crane kick, until the present moment Johnny wakes up off the floor.
I have a question? How do we not know that season one is set in 2017? If that’s the case then that could probably explain why the poster is said to be in 2019 and why the creator says that season four is set before COVID. Also there are some shows that are set before they were released so, to me, it would be more likely for season one to be set in 2017?
The real question is when, how, and why did the annual All Valley TournaMent get moved from "december" to "triplicis"/"may"? I thought the All Valley TournaMent was supposed to always be just before "christmas".
