Hey guys. Appreciate you trying to be neutral in your observations. I moved here 2 years ago from Fort Worth TX. I was told to buy as far out as I was willing to commute (your traffic. comment was spot on). We don't go to the city unless it's necessary. Which is the case every once in a while because the choices for commerce are very limited from what we were used to. Even living this far out is not what I would call safe. The week before Thanksgiving, I got shot at in a grocery store parking lot as 2 teens were trying to rob a lady. I would highly not recommend moving here to anyone who doesn't want to have to look over their shoulder constantly. Sorry

I would disagree about no new construction- there is a TON of new construction going on downtown and hilltop/New tacoma it’s just mostly all high rise apartment/condo buildings and townhomes.
I will agree that traffic sucks. Like all the time everywhere, on the freeway, on the backroads, on the Main Streets and the neighborhood.

What about Spanaway? It is a community ive heard about near tacoma that seems to have more affordable average rent and homes in comparison to Seattle.

Yep, 100%, average home prices roughly in the region of $275,000 up.
Much more affordable, Very close to JBLM for the military and a great place for first time home buyers👍🙈

Great video!!👍 The homeless problem has been steadily increasing over many years/decades. I’m doubtful the alleged “pandemic” had much impact on that. It was already a crisis in 2019. People who could pay rent were often able to get assistance and not end up homeless. In terms of where they gravitate, homeless predominate the downtown, around the bus/train stations near the port, under bridges, the eastside where crime and hard drug use have long prevailed. They set up camps, the police eventually move them out, and they set up camp somewhere else. You will find them scattered everywhere only maybe less so in more inconvenient areas like the North End, due mostly to fewer services. The North End is nice but also has its problems and is inconvenient to shopping and highway access. It’s a little overpriced without compensatory benefits imho. The lack of sunshine there in winter would depress me. The Southend heading west towards the Westside/Narrows Slope is my favorite. One of the most convenient areas you will find in terms of waterfront, shopping, restaurants, access to 16, the peninsula, 6th Ave businesses, UP, Fircrest, Lakewood and the North End.
Traffic is really not that bad at all for a population of its size. It’s much much better around town than Seattle or Portland. I-5 gets congested but if you plan your trips to “reverse commute” you can avoid a lot of it. In this area, be aware of the parking lot heading south on Friday and then returning north on Sunday. However, the other side of the highway will generally be clear if you’re going the opposite direction and willing to wait until evening to return back.
RE entertainment, I agree Tacoma is not great. However the PNW across the board is not really a big clubbing, late night, rocking culture. And where you find it (ie Capitol Hill, Seattle) will be crazy busy with drunk youngsters, competitive parking, long lines etc. The entertainment scene is reflective of the dominant personality types here. Bellingham fittingly voted to call itself “City of Subdued Excitement.” 😂 That sounds like code for “depression” to me (which it kind of is with so many overeducated baristas). This intersects with the concept of the “Seattle Freeze” which is definitely a PNW trait known for an aloof lack of interest in strangers, breaking plans, ignoring people you know in their presence, passive aggression etc. Expect polite enough people/acquaintances, especially in the service industries, but don’t expect making a lot of deep friendships in the PNW. It may happen easily for you, but be aware it’s a common complaint.
Late night dive bars are pretty much where it’s at for entertainment. There is a lot of great live music around if you dig to find it. But it generally starts and ends early, with a few exceptions to that. Sorry for the long rant! Hope some of these perspectives might help someone. Tacoma and it’s surrounding areas are a great place to live depending on YOU, your personality and preferences. This is a great channel where you will learn much! ✌️

What area would you suggest is the nicest safest area.

It all depends on your budget to be honest. Obviously a nicer neighborhood would be more expensive but we can dial in in the best neighborhoods that suit your budget and also your needs and wants.

The Eastside. Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond areas. Very Nice: Medina, Clyde Hill, Sammamish.

Ya none of those are in tacoma lol. The stereotypical “nicest” neighborhoods in tacoma are Browns Point/Northeast tacoma, the North End, Ruston. West End/Narrows, University Place, but there is crime everywhere like anywhere . But I mean I lived for years in a house on hilltop and saw way less crime then I do in my brand new townhome by the tacoma mall!

Tacoma is not alone in this. Seattle and Portland also have seen an increase in homelessness and other major cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. America is starting to look like a 3rd world country with these homeless camps popping up everywhere you go.

100% true, Although I would say there has been an improvement over the past few years.
Shot a video a few weeks back in Olympia and was pleasantly surprised!!!!
