- A crowd of strangers honored Eugene Dednam, an Army veteran whose service was all but forgotten when he died. He was an only child who never married and had no immediate family. So the local veteran services office pieced together his life to help give him a proper sendoff. Nikki Battiste shares more.

Its sad to loose one of these ww2 vets !they are the greatest generation in history ! Thank you sir ! The battle is over here ! Rest in peace !
I'm so glad that he had his neighbor in his life at the end. Rest in peace, sir.
Seems like very nice, respectful people to do this for a good man with good advice.
This was the best GOOD cry I've had in 2 years.....my Grandpa also was a WWII vet, there are MANY reasons they are the Greatest Generation! RIP SIR, RIP.
Such a strong and mature group of people, these WWII vets and their families.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
We will never know how many who served in WWII made it home thanks to Mr. Eugene Dednam an extraordinary man.
Thank you Mr. Hicks for being his friend.
Sir Eugene. Thank you for your service.
R.I.P. There are still decent people in this world. The Greatest Generation!
Thank you for your service rest in peace you are one of many that is the reason we have our freedom today and I appreciate that so much
Imagine fighting for a country who hates you. May he rest in loving peace 😇
@Mim Greatest Generation 😀
Don't believe that bullcrap
@@k.f.3390 Thank goodness for people like him who tried to pave the way for his future fellow citizens. I admire, appreciate, and love the resilience of people like that ❤
@@nursemedic17 I agree 👍
@@gizzyguzzi Unfortunately the FBI.Gov’s statistics upon race show that is not bullcrap.
Thank you for covering his story. He reminds me of my Father who was also quiet and kind, but proud of his service to his beloved country. They weren't bitter or angry. Even though they returned to a segregated society. They are the unsung heroes. May he rest in peace. Maybe, he'll see my father in heaven who passed at 92 yrs. old 12 year's ago. So happy they are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Bless you all! ✨️
RIP, thank you for your service to our country. Glad you had people to honor you.
Thank you sir! RIP 🙏 ❤

Bless them all.
Thank you for your service sir. God speed. 🙏🏼❤💙
True heros when there was more than war in there intentions when joining the service was to bring freedom to people who had none
In some reading I did I tripped over something called the "double v". Many Americans in the 1940s were hoping for a double victory against racism and fascism .
This was so awesome and moving! Thanks to all Americans that showed honor and respect to a well deserved American 🇺🇸 hero.
God Bless ALL That Honored OUR Protector That Stood on the Battlefield To KEEP US ALL SAFE! And Those That Are STILL! STANDING May The Lord Most High Continue Blessings You ALL

Thank you for sharing this story. My uncle is an Annapolis graduate and served during WWII in the Philippines. He rescued a Japanese soldier where he and his wife treated his wounds. I think they are now in heaven smoking KOOL cigarettes and drinking coffee while listening 🎧 to jazz music 🎶 too.
Rest in peace 🕊️ 🕊️ 🕊️

As the daughter of two veterans and granddaughter of several WWII veterans, one of whom was a POW in Germany, thank you for your service, sir! You will not be forgotten. 🫡
Rest Easy Soldier 🕊🇺🇸⭐️🌟💫🌹💐🙏🏿🌞
RIP in Valhalla, Soldier.
Rest lovely Soldier. We cannot say "thank you" enough for serving in a segregated army for a sadistic government.
Surprised no one talks about the segregation and the unfair treatment black people received in the military during that time as well as after they came home.
Thank you for serving our ungrateful and racist country. Most of us honor your service by treating minorities who served as equals. God bless and let's keep speaking truth.
This man. This black man. Was a warrior. There's so much history that we know nothing about because of racism is ridiculous. 6 different campaigns he actually fought in. He was truly blessed to through that. Thank you for efforts, and my freedom and liberty that I so freely enjoy. RIP much respect to you Sir.💪
This man, just say that, it's obviously he's black
God speed 🙏
🙏🙏🙏
He’s America’s true war hero.
😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏
Not enough comments here. Common this man served in the segregated USA army. He served in 6 champagnes and D-Day. I will stand for this man any day
Rest in peace 🙏🏼🙏🏼🇱🇷
Rest easy brother! Until Valhalla.
Rip
He did have surviving relatives who found out about his death
APTTMH
Rest in peace sir God and Jesus is watching over you now The greatest generation thank you for serving our country in though terrible times.🙏
some men dont like the honour. they dont do it for any medals. they do their duty and prefer to fade away without any hint to avoid any inconveniences to others.
Where were they when he was alive?
He kept to himself
💞💞🎖️🎖️🎖️💞💞
🕊️✝️🕊️🇺🇸
I wonder how many WWII vets ares still around? Fewer and fewer every day.
Why can't all races do like the military and come together as Americans. Rip sir
