1992 Knicks vs Bulls ECSF full game highlights. The brutal fouls are at its max in that series. The early 90’s Knicks were the Bad Boy Pistons on Steroids. This was probably the most entertaining 7 game series there ever was.
Jordan had plenty of tough defenders on him, his first playoff series versus the Bucks in 1985, he was guarded by DPOY Moncrief. Versus the Celtics he was guarded by the whole team, but most importantly 9x All-Defense DJ and in all of those series he averaged over 30 ppg on good efficiency. Then he faced the Bad Boys and in his lowest scoring series they got him to average 27ppg on 49% FG, he was guarded by a combination of Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars and Dennis Rodman, but mostly Joe Dumars who was a multiple time All-Defense member of his own. The Knicks were a particularly physical and great defensive team where he was guarded by the 6'6 Jordan "stopper" Gerald Wilkins, who fun fact is Dominique's brother, but as you can tell by the quotations MJ averaged 36ppg on 55% FG in that series, he wasn't stopping nothing. In 1990 he beat the Bucks where he was guarded by DPOY Alvin Robertson. 1992 Finals against 6'7 Clyde Drexler, he had one of his better Finals performance, 1996 Finals he had one of his worse Finals performances against Supersonics team defense. It is a myth that Jordan was slowed down by Gary Payton specifically since Jordan was 7-14 (50%) on single coverage versus the Glove.
This is what happens when you make it to the Finals with a historically great offense but not so elite defense. Majerle was considered a good defender, but just wasn't quick-footed enough to keep up with a guy like Jordan. He did average over 2 blocks a game in the series though. The reality is that he was probably the best option the Suns had to guard Jordan lmao. If they tried putting anyone else on him it wasn't much better so they really just had to bite the bullet on that one. Series still went 6 games with Jordan averaging 41 on them so even with that deficiency they were still able to make it a relatively competitive series
Dan majerlie was 2nd team all defense at the sg sf postion at that time. Jordan was still at his prime when he retired after that chip a really big what if stats wise and accolades wise like 2more scoring and defensive selections higher stats and total stats maybe 1 more mvp and chips
These ignorant young cats just don't know. Dan was no joke of a perimeter defender. MJ was just that good. And then he heard how highly Krause thought of Dan's defensive prowess and MJ took it personal. Zeke Thomas said it best "Jordan is so good that he makes All-Stars look like high-schoolers."
@queztheplug Just to give you an idea of how potent this Suns team was: 2018 Warriors 1993 Suns Pts per game: (114) Pts per game: (113) Pts allowed: (107) Pts allowed: (106) 3pt%: (39.1%) 3pt%: (37.0%) Off rating: 113.6 (3rd) Off rating: 113.3 (1st) Def rating: 107.7 (11th) Def rating: 106.7 (9th) NOTE: the '93 Suns did this in a DEFENSIVE era. Let that sink in for a min.
Great break down. And that Warriors squad didn't have a monster in the paint (Barkley) that could get buckets with back to basket and face up and knock down jumpers. GSW didn't have someone that physical and versatile.
@@lioninthesun When it comes to b-ball you're a cub hiding in the shadows. When it comes to b-ball you're a cub like Jermell Charlo. This the dumbest $#!% I've heard since King Flop said he was the GOAT. Black Jesus played in an era with the greatest perimeter defenders all-time. Since you're either ignorant or unaware, check any list of the best perimeter defenders all-time and you will see the names of Sidney Moncrief, Alvin Robertson, Dennis Rodman, Michael Cooper, Gary Payton, Joe Dumars, Scottie Pippen-in practice. An era with the greatest rim-protectors all-time (Hakeem, David Robinson, Mutombo, Mourning, Ewing, Eaton, Rollins, Parish). In the most physical era where today's flagrant fouls were common fouls. If Floyd Mayweather's uncle was still alive he'd say you don't know shit about b-ball. In today's Monistat ointment soft NBA, tenacious defense is as extinct as the Spix Macaw. Man, you youngsters are are sharp as JR Smith in crunch-time.
There’s a reason MJ averaged over 40 in this series. The Suns had nobody who could come close to guarding him. Majerle had the size and skill but as you saw he was just too slow and MJ would beat him off the dribble every time. Kevin Johnson had the speed and skill but was too small so MJ would post him up or just pull up and shoot over him. They had no better option than to let Dan do his best and others try to help 🤷🏻♂️
Suns had Richard Dumas, who was about MJ's size and a hell of an athlete. He tried. There was no checkin' Black Jesus. He turned into a cadaver hoarder against some of the greatest perimeter defenders ever. If he was eating asses ala Dahmer after a hunger strike when he was an AARP member with Wizards, imagine young and prime MJ?
Don’t have to imagine, I’m 46 and saw all 6 Bulls championships live lol 😊 Majerle was the primary defender on MJ in the series, pretty sure Dumas would have been on Pippin mostly. But yeah MJ torched everyone, no doubt. But the Suns had the most trouble because of the bad matchups, which was heavily discussed coming into the series even.
It's funny to see youngins trash legends guarding MJ. You put today's best defenders and they'd have absolutely no chance to guard MJ. MJ would average at least 50ppg in today's game with 55+fg%. He'd expose and demolish your overrated idol and make your idol a nobody.
This is just one game and this isn’t even some of the bad ones but look how many times everyone was fouled and young kids say it was a week era. In todays game there would have been 20 fouls already. Todays players can’t handle that kind of defense they couldn’t handle guys holding the jerseys and having a hand on them, they can’t even get around a guy in todays game that’s why they flop in this weak ass era

Jordan "one of the best defenders ever "
The best part about Jordan was that he's pissed even while winning. He doesn't get cocky and overconfident ever.
No wasted movements...poetry in motion....One Michael Jordan....The Greatest Of All Time!🏀🥇

this series completely misrepresents how good majerlie was as a defender. He had the fortune of going against prime MJ.

Dan Majerle was actually a very respected defender, in his prime he was giving Allen Iverson trouble.
Jordan and Ainge were actually good friends off the court. On the court, if you are wearing another jersey other than his, you are the enemy.
MJ was guarded by Majerle, Kevin Johnson, Dumas, Ainge & Ceballos this game, it didn't matter
None of those guys are good defenders
He held Jordan too 27 points early that season..and the bulls lost ..dan started talking crazy ...
Yep he took that personal and this was the result.😂
