becker made an incredible diving stab volley off a brilliant courier return in the Set 4 breaker that wasn't shown here, but it was a stunning point. one of the best I have ever seen
if you are german you will know, if not: Becker´s diving volleys were so infamous in germany during the late 80/90s, that diving for anything, playing badminton, volleyball or just catching a falling cup we called a "Becker dive" "Becker-Hecht"
Back in the days where players didn’t have to long-distance fist pump their team or wave the racket to the audience nor sneeze in a towel in between every single point played!
Could you upload extended highlights of former great ATP matches ? Many tennis fans need that ! I have plenty of examples : Nastase Ashe Masters 1975, Borg Panatta Rome 1978, Borg McEnroe Masters 1980, Lendl Gerulaitis Masters 1981, Lendl Becker Masters 1988, Courier Forget Indian Wells 1991, Sampras Agassi Masters 1994, Indian Wells 1995 and Miami 1995, Federer Gasquet Monte-Carlo 2005
Becker definitely viewed this as a way to reassert himself against a new world #1. He was pretty fiesty in the press conference afterwards, saying Courier was "cocky"

They're all to soft and Molly coddled to play five setters these days, apart from slams. The 90s were the peak of tennis. Not taking anything away from the big 3 who have done remarkable things though there won hard work. It was just a more interesting time
this is Brussels 1992 february, one of Beckers big matches, coming from behind. I dont think people realize or appreciate how good he was under pressure, he is literally on the brink in the tie break, yet he survives.
Musta coulda shoulda. Nonsense comment. Behavior on court was totally different these days, a Becker did not need to fistbump every point like Sinner has to.
not so sure about the ending. Becker got even more cheers than Courier when winning points so dont understand what the ending was.....Normally Boris was very popular. In Wimbledon he was the crowds favourite every time if he didnt play against a Brit.
@@l.lewbowski6871 Now THAT'S a nonsense comment. What do you mean Sinner has to? He doesn't have to. And who cares if Becker fist pumps? Did you even see the Becker Shuffle at Wimbledon?
My childhood hero Boris Becker
The deep half volley at match point against him was spectacular
2 best redheads going at it... i was never a fan but when Becker was on his game was very impressive and aesthetically pleasing
Its not 'redhead' more like varieties of blonde to strawberry blonde. Despite his issues Becker was among the best of all time
Great gift. I love to watch those old matches extended highlights!
Serving and volleying on a second serve match point down every time.. Needs balls to do that these days. Becker was unique.
When 5 set finals were just amazing

@@Baerinho I'm not German, but i am well aware of the word 😉. disclaimer: my sister speaks fluent german and told me about it
How dare you tease us with just a 3rd set tiebreak? We need a full 45 min extended highlight of this match
Good old times....
Unbelievable tiebreak!
Back in the days where players didn’t have to long-distance fist pump their team or wave the racket to the audience nor sneeze in a towel in between every single point played!
...and not to have to shout the hell out of their bodies when hitting the ball...
Sounds like you described everything Boris used to do!
That level of netplay from Boris is something no ATP-player atm is even close to. It's a shame the game has changed so much, too much in my opinion.

BECKER ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Becker is one of the greatest big point players of all time.
yeah, Becker, Sampras, McEnroe, Borg...I'd probably put Muster there too.
Muster war ein Ochse der den Sandplatz umgepflügt hat! In dieser Reihe hat gar nichts verloren!
Becker definitely viewed this as a way to reassert himself against a new world #1. He was pretty fiesty in the press conference afterwards, saying Courier was "cocky"
I couldn't find that quote. Was it in German?
Jim played exceptionally well......and still lost. Wow 🎉
Not his surface
One of my favorite players. B. Beker
wish you could do 30 minute highlights of these old matches, you'd get a lot more subscribers i think
The first time these guys played, JC blew a 6-3 5-2 lead. Becker went on to win their next 5 encounters.

The last year that the Brussels tournament was played. Irony.
6:45 Why does second set show 5-2?
Becker, I giant with nerves of steal. The only one a trainer would allow to go angry with himself.
Either of these guys , playing like this would in 2024 kick any current mens arse
Todays players are robots - essentially all play the same
Sein Poster hing bei mir im Kinderzimmer
I dont believe they used to play in the best of 5 sets for a 250 atp tournement 😮
Only the final I think
the final of every tournament used to be like that.
I see. Thanks

wow there both drenched in sweat
What year was this?
Courier wearing Diadora I'm assuming this was 1991!?

It says in the title
It tells you which year it is in the title, if you look. Jim Courier didn't move to Nike until the end of 1992.
No one really cheered for Becker when he held up the trophy. He looked unhappy as well, the crowd must have been against him.
