I agree with the others, Farnworth used to be a nice place. I went to Queen Street school but it was knocked down and rebuilt as a college - now that's shut. Farnworth Grammar, a beautiful old building knocked down almost overnight and now crappy housing. The old Co-op building, Farnworth baths also gone and replaced by more crap. Farnworth park is now just a shadow of what used to be lovely, I used to play in the paddling pool there - now that's gone. Does anyone remember the old mortuary building with the marble slab at the bottom of Gas Street? They should have left Farnworth alone, Now it's just a dump.
I agree it's just a dump now!! lots of druggies and not nice people.. I used to live there on Market street but moved somewhere else because the bombing in Manchester.. I woe up one night at like 1AM with these to people just shouting and fighting then i got up to see them literally killing each other by fighting the the police came and arrested them.. It was terrifying...
I do remember the old mortuary building, I used to walk by it everyday from Queens street were I lived walking to Harper green school in the sixties, your name is familular Alan
I was born in 1988 (I'm 25) and was born and raised in Farny. Properly shocked too see how nice it was back in the day, I love the town and the people too bits but it's a bloody shithole now, it's a total shambles
I wasn't alive to see the olden farnworth days but it looks alot better back then. My mum always said people used to look after their houses and gardens... now it's just a mess and there is rubbish everywhere it's quite sad. I wish people looked after it, it's just a dumping ground now and I'm a little embarrassed to live here
Farnworth lads loved the girls from little lever , we thought they were posh coz they got a free bus to Harper green school and always had dinner tickets lol about 71-72 I was 12ish great times thank you for the video normally I have to be dragged down memory lane but this was a pleasure .. A few tears shed , people remembered and I'll leave with my personal memories , Tognerelas icecream bar , salters toy shop , caff on top floor of coop , 73 bus from the terminus into town , Farnworth ( ice cold baths ) , Harper green ..pie shop n a scrap with the Queen St boys at dinnertime , the monkey run and a teacher called Bob Gorton who talked about the war at every opportunity ...and finally the tig fold road crew .. Peace n love from Essex
@@anthonyhamer6158 I totally agree mate , even if it was raining (and it usually was ) you could just look in amazment at the display . Happy times indeed .... 🖖

There used to be a toy/book stall next to the big newsagents on Brackley Street years ago . I remember the woman who ran the stall could be a bit narky - She told me off once for handling the toys, and another time she refused to reserve a book for me ( I still have the book, actually, it was a hardback copy of "MISERY", first time I'd read it ).
Appauling, so much infrastructure lost. Especially in the train stations, so much has been degraded. We must learn from this!
Thanks for Sharing these photos.
Ian--Little Lever
You have the same last name as my dad
