  • Another vid from August 1988 now, this time from rainy, wind swept Warrington Bank Quay. A nice mix in this one-diesel & electric traction plus freight & passenger workings, a highlight being an 85 on an Inter-City working. Lots of pairs of 20s on MGR workings, a sight sadly of the past! Quite a few 47s including an ETH one on a freight working plus a brand new 90. DMU wise there is a Sprinter/Pacer combo off to North Wales (nice-not!!! But all part of the scene at the time) and one of the 86/1's on a Down Inter-City. All in all, a good mix-enjoy! If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

    I was a student for 2 years in Warrington & lived in Bewsey ST. I spent the night on bank quay in the drafty waiting room early 1988 I was returning home to Wales & missed the last train. I never got a wink too cold & noisey with Lever Brothers & trains stopping & the little gas fire was blowing in the draft. I saw a sleeper train stop & wished I was on it. The station master turned a blind eye & allowed me to stay so a massive thanks to Him.

    Love the 85 at full pelt. The rain spraying off the pantograph. Very atmospheric. Miss them stanlow 47s as well. Great video!

      My first time filming at Warrington BQ. What a great place it was, lots of 20s flying around. Even saw a pair of InterCity 87's arrive with a steel train from Scotland handing over to diesel loco's. I think they were diagrammed off the Lowlander sleeper service, probably went back north in time to work south again the same night. I think sectorisation put paid to that working, a shame as it kept the assets in full employment!

      @@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus I spent a fair bit of time at BQ around 91/92. Great place. Always lots going on. Used to see quadruple 20s sometimes before the 56s/60s took over. Not been for some time.

    Great to see the 20's at Warington again. Seeing 90001 made me realise it was pretty much brand new then. How time flies!

      @@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus That's now been cancelled due to the lurgy. My dad and I were looking forward to using that service, for days out to London.

      Thank you! I have a soft spot for 20s and War BQ was a good place to see them with Bescot not far behind, back in the day.

      I was 6. Bank Quay still looked like that in the late 90's. Ii now has the fences up at the end of the platforms and the ramps have been removed.

    That was a mite worrying at 10:02, that feller leaping down in front of the train just as it started moving

      He waves to acknowledge the driver who must have waved him across, the drivers depot was the other side of the tracks at this point. And freight trains don't move off as fast as passenger trains plus my vid was on part telephoto as well (i was keeping myself & the camera dry under the canopy).

    Looks like the young lad at 4:41 had an iPhone - must have time travelled back to 1988 if so! ☺️

    Did the announcer say that 150/142 was going all the way to Bangor? That'd be fun.
    (what, no interminable "bing bong, may we have your attention please"?)

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  5 лет назад

      The front of the train said Chester but the announcement was for Bangor, and yes what a journey that would have been on a Pacer!!!

      It could do, i haven't been there since the late 90s when i was chasing semaphore signalling in the area. No rateable traction so i had to film units but it was nice to get the old signalling......

    Could you envisage trains travelling at 200mph in the UK 😂
