He is right on one point, that being that fringe groups don't have the right to hijack elements of history an re-constitute them as their own creation. However for this to be relevant, one would have to show that Alito's use of the 'tree' flag was for simple impartial patriotism and not linked to the insurrectionist causes. But is anyone stupid enough to think that Alito's use of the 'tree' flag, an obscure relic of history before the insurrection movement, was simply impartial patriotism, particularly just a year after the explicit Trump support inverted flag incident? Obviously John Bolton most emphatically is! But should we be surprised? After all, this is a man who has stated he intends to vote for Dick Cheney to be president this year!

If you want to give ANY credit to Bolton's interpretation then you'd need to prove he had those flags flying BEFORE Jan 6. And Alito already said the 1st flag wasn't.
Significantly before the riots. Obviously the inverted US flag was not so that is clear evidence of Trump bias. The second flag (the 'tree' flag) was a long forgotten relic of history, only resurrected for the insurrection. Now while it is possible that Alito might have known of this flag prior to the movement but are we really to believe that he did and this flag was a sign of impartial patriotism? And would such an intent to display impartial patriotism be a responsible one when that particular flag has political implication affixed to it from the movement, coming from a supreme court justice? Bolton's naivety is astronomical here.

A historical flag hundreds of years old is not associated with Trump other than some supporters might have displayed the flag at some Trump events but a great example is how there’s usually a lot people flying Texas State flags and various Texas Battle Flags at some events and those events are not even necessarily in Texas and those people are not trying to bring back the Texas Republic. However the people might be from there or believe in the history of the Texas Republic and the men who fought for it, we have a Senator who wears a battle flag patch on his boots. People actually study history and believe in some of the main principles given to us by the founding fathers and actually display some of the flags and symbols from them.
Just because it’s a flag that you don’t recognize doesn’t mean there’s anything nefarious about it, chances are it’s something from History or Military related and there’s a legitimate reason why that person is displaying it

I'm from Texas, so I know a write-in candidate must be declared (and meet minimum signature requirements of voters who did not vote in the primary election, like maybe 133,000 or so) the the President and VP must sign the form and 40 electors must sign forms pledging to vote for them in the electoral college. Otherwise, a write-in vote is not a vote.
I tried checking in John's state, Maryland, and couldn't find the requirements, but at the very least Dick Cheney and his imaginary running mate would have to have pledged electors for the vote to count.
Since MD is blue, I wouldn't want to see it there, but I'd love to see in TX, my state, and WY for LIZ CHENEY/ADAM KINSINGER to be a valid write-in ticket.

@scanmead, The only Protocol there is in regards to the American Flag is that no other flag that can fly above the American Flag. He, or anyone else can fly any flag they wish, as long as they fly the American Flag above it. The other protocols for the American Flag are that it must never be flown in bad weather, and it should not be flown after dark unless it has a light shining directly on it. It must also be retired, and replaced if it is damaged, and/or has touched the ground. It was 2:35 PM on a Friday, and it had been there since 08:30.

Short and sweet Alito should be removed from the court. While every citizen certainly has a right to support Trump, or any other candidate for that matter, the Justices on America's highest court must by definition be people with open minds and a willingness to view all opinions and views with equal weight. Alito has time and again revealed a willingness to side with those of a particular political persuasion regardless of the legal veracity of their positions.
