Rob jumping on the boat fixer upper just further proves that AYO Fishing has indeed set a trend within the Googans and its great to witness the small guy inspiring the big boys.
My aluminum boat cracked up in the front by the trolling motor also, it was due to the trolling motor bouncing as I was hitting waves, so I had a guy weld another piece of aluminum over it so that it was double plated and, had him weld a 1/4-inch thick plate to mount the trolling motor to, and it didn't ever crack again. But I also put a velcro strap to hold the head of the trolling motor down so it didn't bounce so much when hitting waves.
I have to say... I have had the big full on fiberglass bass boat. I was still in the military and I fished it every chance I had... well the military had other things that were more important than my off duty bass fishing... so long story short I sold the boat. But years later I retired... and when it came time for another boat. I went to an Aluminum boat. I just didn't need that much boat anymore. I love it... easier to care for... less opportunity to damage the hull ...it fishes shallower water and access to some smaller lakes / ponds.... the list goes on. Sure on big water a big rig is smoother and faster. But in general I love my Aluminum boat.... Some ideas... go with a jet vice a prop... shallower water... Install float boxes on the back and a tunnel in the hull ... Bob's transom jack plate... of course rear anchor poles... the rest is simple... electronics and trolling motor... plus the cosmetics... they have some really good flooring material now that can replace the carpet and it doesn't get hot... basically the only thing is how much you want to spend. You have the money to spend so yeah send it. Upgrade the wheels and tires on the trailer... I hope you show the build and progress it will be fun to watch. Use your contacts and get a Merc.. I am a little surprised you didn't look into something like Grizzly.... variety of different brands... in a plain somewhat plain new Aluminum boat to start your build from. Comparing the cost... and having a warranty... either way. This is going to be a interesting build process and project. Looking forward to it... this is good content. 👍
I walked the battlefields that new zealand fought on in Vietnam and found the exact spot that my father took the complete charge of a claymore to his lower body. I understand your enthusiasm of walking the ground mate.
@@tylertaylor470 Yep no worries, a trip flare initiated a claymore during an ambush on the corner of a track in Phouc tuy province. He was medivaced to a US field hospital where they were going to remove his legs when an Australian Dr noticed he was a kiwi by his dogtags that were fiber and not steel so he took over the treatment and saved his legs. They removed 308 claymore balls from his body and the other 400 balls had gone straight through him. Luckily I found the digitized commanders logbooks from Nui Dat fsb. I knew the date of the incident and dad's service number and proceeded to find the medivac request via jungle penetrator to the site which obviously had the grid reference so I checked Google maps against his battle maps and the exact same track was still there but was now farm land not jungle so I made my way to Vietnam with his original battle maps and found the corner of the track that they were ambushing. It was pretty spiritual to be honest. I also walked the site of the battle of long tan which felt like walking with ghosts. Dad survived and went on to be the longest serving soldier in New Zealand history when he retired. Thank God for that Australian Dr in Vietnam and dad then met my mum in hospital back in nz as she was a dressing changer there.

Unsure the exact sequence of events on the night and he doesn't really know either but from what I've read in after action reports etc it was a flare that set off a claymore accidentally. Yeah he's a tough bugger. It was difficult and dangerous growing up with a dad that was seeking that level of adrenaline rush again! Haha
Not sponsored and just have one. Get a Primeweld 225 tig or mig 180 welder and it will do that boat easy and doesn't cost 2500. Tig is around 800ish and mig is mid 500, can do pretty much every metal and I've used it on flatbottom boats to car parts. Great all around beginner to intermediate welder that will do that boat like its nothing. You'll save money in the long run instead of buying all new stuff that could be a quick fix or have to wait on parts. And they can weld on 110 or 220.
Tricked tins, you literally picked the best aluminum boat guy to repair and trick this boat out. Wish you would have seen that boat crack and talk that old man down farther. Matt Downs from tricked tins is legit and his channel is underrated. Can't wait to see the build.
This is awesome! I just put aluminum framing and decking in my jon boat. I built it for fishing impoundments and reservoirs loaded with timber. I just bang through the timber where other boat would be scared to go!
There have to be weld shops in the Dallas area that can weld aluminum. Take a 1/4" drill bit and drill a hole where the crack ends. The welders should be able to do the rest.

You should trim some off the break side and make it ergonomic for your palm to be checking your line for bites or twitching the rod and make sure it is easy to clean if you go to "the filth " as rackly calls it

On your front deck cap where your troller motor is. Make sure to drill out the ends of the welds before welding them up so they don't keep spending and check your ribs in the front to make sure there not cracked or any of your structure under the deck.
My dog has the same disease and he is a 16 year old piken and I've spent over $18,000 on him the best thing for his treatment is prednisone liquid steroid and it rebuilds the whites and balances the blood out! Prayers for Hershey!!!

You might wanna check the entire front of that boat for more cracks AND re enforce those areas to handle the larger trolling motors you are going to use on it. Luckily it is aluminum and you can have it easily welded. Going to cost a grand or so to have it fixed and re enforced.
Used boats are crazy right now. A lot of people would kill to have that boat. My first boat was 1500 with a 25hp and it got me on the water with my dog and I still have better memories on it then my 45k boat.

Should have gotten an aluminum Ranger. 2013-2019ish. All aluminum hand built boats. Built with .100 aluminum. Or a triton of those years. Exact same as a Ranger. Just different cosmetics. The construction is the exact same though. Can’t tell the difference between the two until they go through paint.

Top deck can be welded from underneath if it is aluminum. You may want to add some reinforcement anyway if you have a heavier trolling motor.
