The Tony Hawk series has always been one of my favorite series that has almost never treated me wrong. I have nearly every game in the series; THPS3/4,THUG 1/2/Remix, American Wasteland, Project 8, Downhill Jam, THPS HD, and even the THUG Pro mod. The Tony Hawk series has always been my favorite series when I was young and remain to be one of my favorites.
I think it was weird how Eric was in underground 2 but they never really did anything with him like he was just kind of there in the cutscenes he didn't directly talk to you or anything he just kind of hung around. Like I literally don't even think they say his name
Right? I always assumed the skater you play as was supposed to be the same skater from THUG1, considering they get you at the Jersey level. But it also doesn't have to be, which is why they probably decided to keep it neutral with Eric. At least he still gets clowned which is always deserved and satisfying
I love that Eric became a reoccurring annoying character that everyone in the games hate. I think he’s in thug 2 but proving ground if I remember right he’s like a super car rich guy pro skater Edit also chad muska in this game was awesome
This video reminds me of how THUG 2 went two steps back instead of evolving the series like THUG 1. As a skater, THUG 1 was everything I wanted in a game. A fantastic story, deep customisation, memorable soundtrack, cool locations, and a difficulty selection to test your skills. THUG 2 was just all about clowing around, and it didn't do much for me as someone who wanted another adventure that celebrated the art of skateboarding. THUG 2 is still a fun game, but to me it was dissapointing that they decided to go the Jackass route rather than evolving the story that THUG 1 had.
You could not have said it better. THUG 2 was fun but it felt more like another Jackass Game and was the Game where the Series slowly went down. THUG 1 is the best IMO.
And sadly, the series would only ever go further downhill from there (no pun intended)... THUG1 was without a doubt the franchise at its peak, and as the game that introduced me to it, it'll always be my absolute favorite.
THUG2 had great levels, i will say. Seemed like THAW had tried to go back to the way of THUG with its story, but it missed the mark a bit. Then they tried to do it again with Proving Ground. I had clocked out of the series by the time Project 8 came
Dude you brought so many important memories and feelings flooding back to me. It’s the first video I’ve seen by you but will be FAR from the last my friend. Thank you ❤️
Tony Hawk's Underground is my favorite Tony Hawk game. It did have a few unnecessary elements like driving cars but it is still imo the best skateboarding game ever made.
This games soundtrack alone is god tier, especially for 2003. There are so many songs across a ton of genres, and the artists featured are a nice mix of mainstream and deep cuts. I found a lot of great music through this game. Oh also the gameplay is absolutely amazing.
You never showed the secret ending, You get it after you beat the game a second time on the same difficulty you beat your first playthrough on You get to skip the last mission and get to watch an alternative end cutscene.
You don't actually "skip" it. I recently did a 100% playthrough of THUG1 (all gaps, story mode on all difficulties, etc.) and on my last (Sick) playthrough he punched Eric but the goal wasn't completed so I had to do it again to complete all goals. Thankfully the goal isn't really hard anyway so I just did it.
This was an amazing trip down memory lane. Thanks for sharing your experience and making this vid T.K. 💯👍💯 Edit: the final match against Eric has a perfect and a very *Very* satisfying ending when you beat it in Sick 😂 difficulty.

Fuck Eric, felt so good to deck his shit in. This game lit the fire in my skater heart as someone who was looked at weird in the south as a skater when I moved there during my childhood. An outcast's safe-haven in virtual form. Edit: Also Bam is a legend!!!
Tony Hawk's Underground is so good. For me, the story was the best part. While a very simple story, I got surprisingly into it. I was genuinely surprised at the double cross. The game does a good job of making you really hate Eric through out the story. I remember playing through the story mode several times unlocking the different characters. I never really played much of THUG2, I just remember the main story being about vandalizing stuff, which to me just felt so immature. It was definitely influenced by Jackass, which I never really got into.
I always credited Green Day for being what got me into rock music and wanting to learn instruments and discover music as a whole. While that's true, it was actually the Tony Hawk series that buttered me up to that moment. The soundtracks were god tier with all the punk and the underground rap. It really shaped me. Countless hours were spent on this series and THUG was my favorite for the story it had

I'm relatively new to your channel, I found you from a simpsons video I believe, since I love the Simpsons, and it turns out you play fallout, one of my favorite game series EVER. I'm enjoying the diversion of content you make along side the fallout stuff, it's a nice break, especially for older viewers, it keeps your channel fresh! Well done my guy, awesome video I played this as a kid too!
Heh. I played THUG 2 a lot as a kid. The character I created was a blue robot wearing a top hat, a big watch necklace, and hoodie with baggy pants. I called him: Sampson, the world’s fanciest robotic gangster.
Damn this brought back some memories. My neighbor as a kid and I didn’t get along at first but he asked me if I wanted to play this and we played this shit almost every day because I didn’t own it. He passed away a year ago and I didn’t remember all this until just now.
I met Chad Muska for the first time at an event last year in Lorain, Ohio. He's from there, and trying to help the city build a public skate park. Not like how he is in the game at all, very nervous, but excited energy, not like a hype beast at all. He kinda reminded me of Garth from Wayne's World lol. He owns a farm in Ohio and lives here now. It is almost 20 years after this game so I'm sure he just acts different now, but I genuinely enjoyed speaking with him. Very nice guy.
he fell from grace a few years ago my guy. how he is in the game was actually how he was in real life before he became an alcoholic. after that he got sober and became a new person.
This is my favorite game of all time. Its the best story mode in a sports game ever. I love this game and with the success of thps 1+2 remake. I hope by some miracle they remake this as well. Eric was a great villian too. As much as i love the SKATE franchise i wish they had a story mode half as good as this
God DAMMIT this game was so good, I spent so much of my childhood playing this game, splitscreen for HOURS looking for secrets on all the maps with friends, replaying the story over and over. Then underground 2 dropped and blew my brains out my head, great times for skate games, then the skate series dropped and that was the next step up. Here's hoping underground 1 and 2 get a solid remaster but they dont need one really. Fantastic work on this video, articulated the feelings I have looking back but fail to put into words!
My man I have to admit I was skeptical. Last one I played was on dreamcast, but it was tremendous. You packed the game into this vid beautifully. Appreciate the details you included in order to pack the most in without taking too much time overall. Your tier videos are " god " tier bruh ! L8er
I took a leak next to Tony Hawk at a steak house in Montreal around 2005, guy had the absolute biggest hog I've ever seen. I didn't even intentionally look, you could feel the shear gravity of the thing when he whipped it out... like he was choking a Pringles can. True legend.
I have beaten this game over 15 times when I was a kid. So much so I used to know the entire dialogue of the story word for word. This will always be top 3 favorite game all time.
I know this video is a little old but I thank the algorithm gods for recommending it to me. I always see a lot of love thrown towards THUG 2 and I know a lot of people hold that game and THPS3 in high regard, but THUG was really the game that holds to most significance to me. I always wondered how much better the game could have been without a strict yearly release cycle.
Bro, this was also one of my jams back in the day! This and the smack down series. I feel like we’re kindreds. I’m sure all your fans and supporters feel the same.
I remember me & my friends at that time had here comes the pain & super smash bros melee on rotation every day ! Damn I miss those days of playing for hours.. we would also throw in 007 night fire in the mix lol
I use to love TH games back in the day, spending hours building a nice park. I'd always turn down the settings to low so it would feel more like real life skating. But damn after playing the skate demo back on ps3 it was so hard to go back to that push A or B type of gameplay. Hell I still the demo on my old ps3.
As someone from St. Pete FL who would skate street in Tampa a lot, it was so amazing to have the Tampa map in this game. I’ve been a fan of skateboard games since 720 in the arcade and T&C Surf on NES. I’ll never forget buying Street Skater on PS1 the day it came out. That was the first “legit” skate game that came out on console. Soon after we had THPS, but my favorite was Skate and Destroy. Still, that is one of the best all time skate games and was way sicker than the THPS franchise. I also had Grind Session, but that wasn’t my favorite. I bought a 360 just for EA skate when that came out, but now with Session, we finally have a realistic skate game. Thanks for making this video - many great memories!
Dude, great video! I know it's an older one, but I recently found your channel and this retrospective was incredible, and very nostalgic for me. I loved everything about this game and the story was pretty enjoyable at the time, and I think still holds up. I had fun with THUG 2, but it always just felt like an extended episode of Jackass or Viva La Bam; fun but didn't have that same grounded connection that the first THUG had. Great work man, I'm checking out more of your clips!
THPS 1 and 2 were perfect on the PS1. And I think really, the series hit it's stride with THUG 1, 2 and AW. While THUG 2 hits more like an episode of Jackass then the rise, fall, and rise again of THUG1, it's still a good time. AW followed suit falling a bit more in line with what Underground was trying to do while still feeling crisp, but didn't really deliver much of anything new. Everything from that point on, imo, just kinda feels flat. Like it's missing it's core. Instead of remastering THPS forever, they should think about bringing the series back to it's possible peak. Great video Mantis.
Completely agree. With Skate 4 on the horizon, if they wanted to, they could make a Tony Hawk game that followed the same type of suit that THUG did and I think it would go over really well as a fun alternative to how great Skate 4 will be.
I played this one a lot. I remember once you did the final skate against Eric that first time , the second time skips that last boss battle and a cutacene happens . you punch eric in the face and take the tape.
So I just hopped back on THUG yesterday and my last time playing was 2/2/2020, I was on the last mission too. I beat it and now gonna play through again. This game is so legendary. So many nostalgic feelings and memories when playing this gem.
I remember being in middle school and coming to school and everyone discussing on what brand you signed in this game. It was as if you were signing in real life. This game is great.
I preferred American Wasteland sure but that's because I was a sad little teenager with no friends. Going back to these as an adult, THUG is clearly head and shoulders above the rest. Well, apart from the driving section but we don't talk about that.
I remember being obsessed with THUG when I was real little. It solidified my love of gaming . Lowkey every game I've every played since then has been measured against the pure joy that was this game.
Ever since THUG 2 I've been trying to find a skate game where I had so much fun and at the same time tried so hard, SKATE 3 came close but it was more fun and not that hard
you forgot to mention that the pause menu theme changes with each sponsor and shows the wear on your board over time, this game was way ahead of its time

As much as i love the SKATE franchise i wish they had a story mode half as good as this
THUG was my shit as a teenager. I don't have it anymore, though. Traded it in a long time ago.
Just ordered this game for PS2 on EBay. I’m ready for the nostalgia. Nice video!
L8er
You are the best Kyle! Thank you for checking it out man.
I took a leak next to Tony Hawk at a steak house in Montreal around 2005, guy had the absolute biggest hog I've ever seen. I didn't even intentionally look, you could feel the shear gravity of the thing when he whipped it out... like he was choking a Pringles can. True legend.
Wow i was just reminiscing about how dope this game was earlier today thanks mantis✊🏼
Glad I could help.
I have just bring it, shut your mouth, here comes the pain, and thug 1 & 2. Legendary games.
I remember me & my friends at that time had here comes the pain & super smash bros melee on rotation every day ! Damn I miss those days of playing for hours.. we would also throw in 007 night fire in the mix lol
holy shit, go figure you also love underground! awesome video that i wasn't expecting to see scrolling thru your channel!
I used to beat this game everyday after school in about 3-4 hours. Still my favorite TH game next to 3 :)
What a great trip down memory lane, and what a great job with this video - a perfect refresh of that storyline from my childhood. Good looks.
I loved the thps 1+2 remaster. Really wished they would have done a 3+4, then a thug 1+2 remake, then a stand alone thaw remake
I really loved THUG1 and 2, i've speen hundreds of hours playing and replaying both, this reminds me, i should replay it again
Tony hawks Underground 1 and American wasteland are my favorites, underground 2 and pro skater 2 and 3 are also right under those two for me.
I use to love TH games back in the day, spending hours building a nice park. I'd always turn down the settings to low so it would feel more like real life skating. But damn after playing the skate demo back on ps3 it was so hard to go back to that push A or B type of gameplay. Hell I still the demo on my old ps3.
that was one sweet jump over that helicopter in Hawaii.
And a diverse 80+ song soundtrack helped this game age like fine wine.
“we are able to chase them down and commit vehicular manslaughter” 🤣
Was looking for more fallout vids from ya. And found my fav game from my fav series. Love it
Dude, great video!
The level design is the best in the series. I spent hours just playing free skate in New York, for example. Just lines on lines on lines.
Man, I hope you make more of these. I'd love to hear your thoughts on American Wasteland
No way, Officer Dicks got his whole foot down on MCs neck
We are all victims of police brutality after all
I played this one a lot. I remember once you did the final skate against Eric that first time , the second time skips that last boss battle and a cutacene happens . you punch eric in the face and take the tape.
As someone who hasn’t fully played this game and has only really watched playthroughs, I wish there was a “Strangle Eric” option 😤
The cop puttin his foot on the neck in New York is kiiiinda gnarly
I loved Tony Hawk Pro Skater series
Same brother.

I can’t tell you how many hours of my childhood were invested in playing this story mode. My all time favorite Tony Hawk game!
I will never forget Muska throwing me a board and saying “Merry Christmas” on actual Christmas Day 😢 ❤
I really love this game. Played the story mode dozens of times.
This still might be my most replayed game of all time
“Mr Pure” has been stuck in my head for almost 20 years
Yooo I found myself quoting EVERY cutscene word for word. If that’s not nostalgia I don’t know what is! Liked and subscribed 🤘
THUG online scene was crazy
I missed out on that, I watch RUclips videos and it always looked so crazy and fun. I have a PS2 PS2 with THUG 1 & 2. Still so much fun to play.
I'm still obsessed with it to this day, play it on PS2. My favorite skateboarding game ever.
@@BUCCIMAIN THUG1 also isn't hard.. even on Sick.
you forgot to mention that the pause menu theme changes with each sponsor and shows the wear on your board over time, this game was way ahead of its time
