This was another great demo, thanks 👍
And, this synth really has the best of the ethereal and mystical sound quality of the old stringers
It’s like the Streichfett with some additional functionality. Love my Streichfett!
String-Fat, ftw. Yes.
I love your videos man. Super well documented and interesting. I also like your personal insight on the different subjects. Thanks for the good work. Cheers from France.
I only purchase things that you like, Zach! Kidding aside, glad this landed and you covered it. Somebody had mentioned this when I covered the Streichfett - well done!
great demo. i bought it for the vocoder only, and love it, and the strings are the bonus. one of my favorite vocoders to explore. waldorf makes really good stuff. solid feel.
The sound at 7:00 gives me goosebumps. it's really amazing. Can you give me the settings of these sound?? Thanks from the Netherlands
Great demo will give this a try I am looking for a string machine, and this can do more than the Behringer has its own unique sound very transparent, not surprised that Thom would select this one and that did get my attention
Snagged the STVC a few months ago and it’s a beast. The only quarrel I have with it is the wobbly plastic pots, everything else it extremely high quality except the pots. I can’t understand why they chose to cheap out on the parts that would see pretty much the most hands on use apart from the keys.
I think they used the same crap knobs as the blofeld and several others, I highly expect the pots to need replacement regularly like those synths. But yes, its deeper than it looks and there are some interesting tricks when someone spends the time to really do some programming. The sound is pretty cool especially on headphones but its not easy to fill up the 3 banks with entirely new sounds from scratch without running out of ideas on the STVC. All the sounds it makes have a certain character.
I have an STVC and I love.
I really want one. Love muh vocoders but it's quite clear and the freeze function is fun.
I have a Streichfett only as a possible simple piece of tour rig. I've had classic string synths from Korg, Roland, Crumar, etc and the Waldorf definitely lacks a lot. It sounds very digital to me. It does okay at capturing the general character but this is not something that would ever replace any real 70s string machine. You play an Orchestrator, Lambda, Trident, etc etc DRY and really feel the difference. The STVC / Streichfett only sounds okay and only when drowned in effects.
I don’t even use my streichfett as a string machine or even an emulator, but it does make for a good ambient machine.
Geez, thanks a lot Zach. You just kicked my GAS into overdrive 😂😂
For the price, you’d think they would throw in a delay in the onboard effects too.
Excuse me, but the STVC‘s build quality is anything but excellent.
1. After 2 months my unit was suddenly dead, without being moved around. It took Waldorf 6 weeks to repair it.
2. The knobs, particularly the master volume, are the most wobbly on any keyboard I‘ve ever had in 50 years.
3. It could be a nice go-to keyboard, also for use as a midi controller due to the excellent and stable Fatar keybed - but it‘s unnecessarily heavy due to its massive metal (cast iron?) casing. Solid plastic would be much better.
Did you ever find out how it died? Or rather, what Waldorf had to do to resurrect it.
@@Michael_Smith-Red_No.5 Not really. But presumably the internal power supply - not the wall wart which I tested with another keyboard before sending the unit back.
The pots are wobbly...only a matter of short time before it breaks?
I played around with one, and yeah, knobs are wobbly, I was thinking of selling my streichfett and upgrading to this, but I’m glad I stayed with my little desktop. Sure the vocoder is cool, but for the price, it surprisingly felt cheap. Not usual for Waldorf.
@@RayyMusikSTVC DOES NOT HAVE A WALL WART, IT IS USB POWERED 🤔
Your title is aimed to draw the attention of audience to a string machine but your demo was just a mixture of ambient voices with effects and filters.
I, as a string machine seeker, expected to hear string sounds to compare it with the other modern string synthesizers.
A lot of these patches remind me of Angelo Badalamenti’s work on Twin Peaks. Nice demo
With the Behringer VC-340, it is analog. It also has the choir as well as the strings and VC. Also with the Behringer, it's almost half the price of the Waldorf. Lastly, it's a recreation of the Roland. The sounds are straight out of the 70's. This sounds fantastic in a newer, updated way. Yes it's nice but it doesn't have the authentic 70's sound with the dark vocals from the choir. For the money and authenticity, I'll stick with the Behringer.
I LOVE radiohead, Thom Yorke, Smile, you name it. I can't see them brandishing a Behringer. I mean they are known for their use of higher-end equipment. Simply because they can afford it. Plus they like melding the old with the new. One foot planted in the sound of the past (i.e. the Melotron) with the flair of newer sounds. It's not bad. It's not pompous. It's just what they are known for.
Can I get some names of other string synths on the market? I didn't know this was a genre for hardware.
It's a classy bit of kit. Only tries to do about five things and does them very well.
Nice modified sounds, but where are the string sounds?
There's only one thing to complain about: The extremely small display - in my opinion
Great video.
I love how the base note is C.
Lovely!
Yorke
Please do a review on the roland jupiter 80
Does it play in keys other than A minor?
It's Yorke
Best vocoder!
LOL... my old Wadorf Q kicks the shit out of that.
I have been searching for 25 years now for the strings/violins they used in "Ocean of Memories" from Titanic. It starts at 6:55 and unfortunately only lasts for a few seconds. I would buy any keyboard that could mimic this sound tomorrow.

Hey man can I suggest spending a couple mins playing some sounds first?
6 minutes of just talking is pretty hard core and uninspiring. Play a bit, talk a bit, play a bit, show a few things. Waaaaaay more engaging imo. Thank for your channel. Always informative
