Underrated content I know the older generation would appreciate this video a lot more but it’s harder for them to navigate their way through RUclips

The Chris Killip retrospective book is also fantastic in my opinion. Really resonates with me.
I do think it shares some similarities with Mike Abrahams book

It’s nuts good. I also highly recommend any of his others books, especially In Flagrante.

The wishlist pain is real! As ever with this type of thing the worry is that something will sellout by the time you’ve worked your way through the list. Good luck!

I live in the south and remember driving up north to see my girlfriend (now my wife) and seeing the long convoys of police vans driving up the A1. I also remember another occasion in a Sheffield of the miners coming round with collection tins to help them. I cannot imagine how it was for them.

    Hi Mike and Paul.
A follow up to this excellent video on photo books could be one about the various archives of British photography, local and national, and the content they hold that could be another gateway for people to discover the works of photographers. Have a good weekend.

Hi Colin. That’s a great suggestion. Mike and I have both loved using the British Library and I’ve checked out the Martin Parr collection kept at Tate Britain a couple of times. A proper look at the Martin Parr Foundation would be a dream.

For anyone reading this in the UK who missed it on release, there’s a chance it’s on the BBC iPlayer.

One of my favourite photography books is a book called "One for Life" On 13th August 1987, thousands of people took a to capture the best essence of British life in one day. The best were published in this book. It was interesting back then but now it is a fantastic look back on how we lived back then. I live in the same city as you, I am happy to meet for a coffee/beer in town (I still can't call it a city!) if you fancy having a look at it?

There is a narrative that I've heard spoken about before that historically documentary photography wasn't really that good in the UK - sure there will be few exceptions. This was because photography in the UK was dominated by the Royal Photographic Society (and to an extent camera clubs), so photography was very pictorial, scientific /exprimental). Then you can think about the impact that David Hurn had at Newport with his course and then people like Bill Jay and Tony-Ray Jones exposing people to the US/European photographers then things really started to change...
