This is really good information. Thank you for putting this and other helpful content on RUclips. I’m pushing into upper intermediate in my journey to be an advanced surfer. I’m really focusing now on positioning my hands and arms, so this is timely for me. The hands below the shoulders is a great takeaway. I am now very rarely finding my arms waving like a windsock guy in front of a business, or have my elbows sucked in like a T-Rex. I’m getting there! Thanks again for your help.
Thanks so much for this. I've been surfing for ~40 years but my weakest link is my style. Seems my arms are the main culprits. I'm going to practice what you talked about. By the way, I went to school with the two guys who started Killer Dana. I graduated from DHHS in '81.
Loved this. Great analysis of the finer points of style for more advanced surfers. Have you considered doing style/technique reviews of viewer submissions? I’d like to submit some of my clips if you like the idea of that.
Hellyeah will use this in the future, you gave me a tip back in hossegor 2 years ago on how to ride tubes and wanted to let you know i very much applied what you told me back then and it has helped me so much 🔥 have gotten alot better at it since ❤
Great video on arms technique, I would not consider this a video about style since there's no reference to overall body self-expression. I think you might made a small and common mistake by confusing the technique with style (in this case the arms technique). There's no reference to overall movement and drown-out line, there's no reference to foot position, knees, and upper body, and no word on bottom turns and speed (on how different they can get). But this is ok because maybe you only wanted to focus on arms and hands. My thing here is that you are somehow not intentionally reducing style to technique and you even argue it can be learned. I see it differently, for me techniques can be learned, but styles have to be created and they are more complex, and require a good amount of self-expression that can't be properly replicated by others. Not saying that one can do whatever he wants on a surfboard, the wave has to be well surfed. But great video in its kind, great effort, and thanks for this! Cheers!
Great tips . 🤙🏾🙏🏾
