This is one of my most favorite REM songs. Around The Sun was okay as an album but this was the jewel in the crown. This is one of the top five REM songs, if not THE best.

Sometimes i ask myself why i take so long to hear Around the Sun completely, The Outsiders is one of my favorite songs on this record and now for me one of the best songs R.E.M. ever made. One of the main reasons REM was so successful is that they were even better live than in the studio. Sometimes by leaps and bounds, like with this song.
She Just Wants to Be, King of Birds and I”ve Been High are other examples of what I mean.

GREAT performance! I love how this live version is not as clean and smooth as the song on the album... especially that crazy guitar has one apocalyptic touch to it somehow. Michael Stipe is a genius! But Q-Tips performance on the album is a terrific, and worth remembering too!

A pretty good song on the album, until I got to the Q-Tip part and thought "Oh, gods, didn't they learn anything from 'Radio Song'?" This is far better, though I still think it would work better if the spoken/rap part felt a little more natural.
