The first vtuber that got my attention was Projekt Melody due to her controversy from jealous camgirls. The first I watched things of was either Ironmouse or Nyanners though. I've since fallen out with the whole thing of Nyanners but found others. My main ones these days are hololive English and like a number of others like Pippa or Rosemi. When it comes to anime one of my first was Sky Girls and also early was Lucky Star. I eventually watched some of the Gundam series as well including both 0079 and Zeta.
Thank you for the stream Armcha1r, the VOD has helped me deal with some tedious work. Here is my "how I got into Vtubers": 1: I became aware of Vtubers in late 2019, but I can't remember if it was because of Hololive Moments clips or Kizuna Ai. For reference, I remember seeing a Fubuki stream in my recommendations with "only" 300 watchers. I watched mostly 4th and 5th gen, mainly Kanata, Nene and sometimes Coco. 2: With HoloMyth I switched to English streams and I watched mainly Ina until mid-2021. At that time I lost interest in Hololive and then in Vtubing altogether after trying to watch indies (honestly, just Yuuka Bear). 3: I fell back into the rabbit hole after discovering Depressed Nousagi just after its cancellation (I cant remember if before of after his return), his content was something I wanted to see for a long time and pulled me back into VTubers (even today I watch more Vtuber commentary than Vtuber streams). 4: I discovered Phase Connect through the Pippa Arc of the Hogwarts Legacy Drama, watched her briefly but I eventually gravitated more towards Uruka and Lia. Nowadays I am a general Phaseshill and I jump around different Phase sad girls/talents.
A few anime recommendations: 1. Bakuman. - A manga (and anime) about writing shonen manga, written as a mature shonen manga. It is very much a propaganda piece about Shonen Jump publication, but is also sort-of autobiographical but not really. 3 pretty sizable seasons, but I recommend watching at least the first. 2. Death Note. - Same authors as Bakuman. A bored god of death drops his notebook into the modern world. A very smart bored highschooler picks it up and finds out that anyone whose name is written in that notebook will die. So he goes on to start mass murdering criminals while an autistic genius detective is trying to figure out who he is. The show has a big time skip after the second big ark of 3, and I recommend not watching past it. The director's cut agrees and puts the ending at that point as well. Still, this is one of the masterpieces of the medium. 3. Gurren Lagan. - Specifically the films that summarise the show without the filler. Honestly I can't do this anime justice by describing it. Just know that this is one of my all time favourites, even if it is pretty dumb. 4. World Trigger. - One day, aliens teleported into the middle of a town using an at the time unknown form of energy-matter called trion. No conventional weapons were able to even dent alien armor, but a group of people managed to get their hands on trion technology and repel the invasion. Years later, in that same town, an unassuming glasses wearing nerd finds out that the new transfer student is one of those aliens, seeking a way to resurrect his dad. I really recommend this one. It might not look all that impressive, but it is the most intelligently written battle manga I've ever read. I do recommend reading it instead of watching, and I do recommend giving it a chance until you saw the beginning of the second ark. I assure you, this series is well worth it. The only problem is that it has a very slow release schedule.
Here's my "How I got to vtubers" VRchat streamers (this is during the 4th quarter of 2020 btw) > Korone clips > Korone > Hololive JP > Hana Macchia clip of her playing DOOM > sub to Hana Macchia > Niji ID > stay in Niji ID a long ass while > Niji EN > start losing interest in streams as a whole > a few indies here and there that I soon dropped As of now I only watch whatever streams/content that interest me Anyways have some random ahh recommendations after hearing you yap about anime Lily's Well: a horror game that you might possibly like especially with how it ties up a certain plot thread False Child (20 chapter manga): a tanuki wants to do some mischief to a family and make them cry. After seeing a framed picture of the family's daughter it transforms into the daughter and starts doing its thing. The tanuki succeeds in making the family cry but not in a way it expects Ya Boy Kongming! (aka Paripi Koumei): Tactician Kongming dies of old age while wishing to be reborn in a peaceful time. His wish gets granted as he gets isekai'd to modern day Japan. He becomes captivated by a singer, Eiko, and wants to let the world know of her great singing by becoming her manager. Fortunately for Kongming, his tactics are quite useful in the modern era. Sachi-Iro No One Room (manga): A girl gets "kidnapped" by her stalker. She proposes to her stalker that if they successfully get away from the police she will marry the guy, if they get caught they'll end their lives instead. Well it's not like they can find happiness in this world, right?
Mine was kizuna passing interest > hololive on and off > Gura held my interest for like a week. > Niji caught my eye for like a day > caught Pippa's debut out of curiosity. found the rest of Phase and watched as the rest of the company get more and more insane and Pippa get more and more normal.
My Vtuber history was: Hear of Kizuna Ai from anitubers, check her channel out for a bit, forget her > see her again in Azur Lane collab, do not go back to watching her but listen to her music on Spotify > Come across Hololive with the Hololive Azur Lane collab > Watch some clips but don't really get into vtubing other than listening to SSS and AZKi's songs > Come across Hana Macchia, get stuck watching her, subscribe > Niji ID (also got to Pikamee via Hana) > Got into vtubers in general via clips and stuff, there for HoloMyth debut > Discover Suisei around this time (probably could have seen her before but not really remembering anything), get captivated > As Pandemic era and online lectures end and end of University comes have less time for streams, also start to lose interest in streams in general, become a filthy clip watcher (also music. Do sometimes still watch streams though).
Tbh the two main series I'd rec are Assassination Classroom (my favorite of all time, and I do like how it does talk about education thru the whole class E system) and Kids on the Slope/Sakamichi no Apollon (Nice drama, and a Goated OST made by Yoko kanno that got me into jazz, and has my favorite rendition of Milestones)
Regarding the Yotsuba Set up in Quints, The studio decided to do a Tokyo Ghoul and changed the story and place the set up in the movie which ruined it BTW team Nino
I've sworn off Twitter, so I'll just put my basic Vtuber pipeline here. TLDR: Other RUclipsrs talked about Pippa, I started watching Pippa, Pippa introduced me to Kirsche, Lord Maulington convinced me to watch the rest of the Phase Connect girls, and it was all downhill from there (in the best way possible.) So it was early 2022, I was watching a sort of internet legend called Mister Metokur. During one of his streams, he showed a clip of this pnk anime rabbit girl who was making fun of a lolcow that Metokur was also covering at the time named Ethan Ralph. She was scolling through his Twitter posts when suddenly she was blocked by him live on stream. I remember thinking it was really funny because he was pretending to not know or care about her just prior to that. I obviously knew about Vtubers, but it never really interested me. I just saw it as essentially "coomer bait." Well, a month or so later I was watching this other RUclipsr I like called TheAlmightyLoli (don't let the name fool you, he's just a pretty normal guy from Kentucky who reviews anime, shows, movies and video games.) But during his livestreams, he would often bring up a Vtuber named Pipkin Pippa. I specifically remember him saying "she's the one who told her chat to 3D print guns to fight the ATF." Needless to say I was immediately intrigued. So I looked up clips of her and I realized that this was the same person that Mister Metokur talked about. I think the first videos of her that I watched was Azehara's "Pipkin Pippa Gamer Exerience" videos. I laughed so damn hard at those videos that I knew I needed more immediately. So I started just binging clips of her for a week or two and eventually I caught a stream, although for the life of me I can't remember which stream it was, but it was fun enough that I started watching her streams as much as I could. Then the Kirsche collab where they played Tera happened, and I was instantly in love with Kirsche as well, although I didn't really watch her much because she mostly streamed on Twitch and I much prefer RUclips, but I watched tons of Kirsche clips. Getting to witness Pippa's highlights and her milestones after that point, including her various interactions with Mister Metokur and TheAlmightyLoli. I would see some clips of Lumi and Tenma, but other than that I pretty much stuck to Pippa. Until Lord Maulington released his Phase Connect video in mid 2023. That video is what convinced me to actually check out the rest of the company. After that it was pretty much game over for me. I now watch most of Phase's EN members and sometimes the JP's although I can't understand them most of the time but I still think they're great. There are also a bunch of Indies I watch including, but not limited to Kirsche, Filian, Saruei, Sayu and plenty of others. I also have since convinced one of my normie friends to get into Vtubers by using what I call "the Pippa clips strategy." I also got another one of my friends who was already into Vtubers to start watching Pippa and later got him into the rest of Phase Connect, and now Shiina has become his Oshi lol. So in conclusion, I'm DEEP in the rabbit hole, too far gone, I'm beyond saving now... and of course it was a rabbit girl who sent me down the rabbit hole in the first place.
32:25 you might enjoy the children's liberation army plot arc of extraordinary attorney woo (seems to start around ep. 9? I didn't keep much track while watching)
Oh man, you shouldn't start noting you'll add anime to your list, else the incoming suggestions will increase that list. Anyway watch: Re:zero No Game No Life The Big O Outlaw Star Girls und Panzer Akira Paprika Redline Planetes Casshern Sins Cromartie High School Desert Punk And a bunch of others, but I think the joke has run its course
@gokbay3057 GuP is truly great in the way you can tell people it's a sports anime where girls larp as country stereotypes and they will genuinely be confused. Tbh I posted nothing but great stuff (except Desert Punk, which heavily depends on taste).

as someone who has never gone to school, the high-school discussion is very interesting to me

As of now I only watch whatever streams/content that interest me
Anyways have some random ahh recommendations after hearing you yap about anime
Lily's Well: a horror game that you might possibly like especially with how it ties up a certain plot thread

bakemonogatari is my all time favorite, and I start watching vtuber by holo myth, now my dream is seeing both collab together
Biggest anime reccomendation:
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Wow, my introduction to Vtubing was the same. I started out watching Shylily reacting to other videos.
I've sworn off Twitter, so I'll just put my basic Vtuber pipeline here.

2:24:27 he did reference to Fauna several times
"Sora Yori ..." was mentioned, but I have to reiterate that I believe you will MASSIVELY enjoy it.
This show also is a masterclass in cinematography.
1:57:21 the fate series a whole other rabbit hole but if you get into it it's so good
I just watch your vod, if you like spy family, I highly recommend barakamon
32:25 you might enjoy the children's liberation army plot arc of extraordinary attorney woo (seems to start around ep. 9? I didn't keep much track while watching)
i saw some hen-thai
Fire
unlike the othe ones in the big 3, you will never regret catching up to One Piece (: heavily recommended!
Oh man, you shouldn't start noting you'll add anime to your list, else the incoming suggestions will increase that list.
Anyway watch:
Re:zero
No Game No Life
The Big O
Outlaw Star
Girls und Panzer
Akira
Paprika
Redline
Planetes
Casshern Sins
Cromartie High School
Desert Punk
And a bunch of others, but I think the joke has run its course
Girls und Panzer is great (and the only one here I could properly comment on).
Also would recommend Angel Beats.
@gokbay3057 GuP is truly great in the way you can tell people it's a sports anime where girls larp as country stereotypes and they will genuinely be confused.
