I heard it right away and the Wings Of Pegasus video proves it beyond doubt. I think it will be all over the set, even the outakes.Absolute sacrilege and I will not be purchasing and I was all in for it when it was announced
If they have altered Freddie's voice, it's such a dishonest thing to do. His vocals don't need to be pitch corrected. Pitch correction removes the essential qualities of a voice that make it human and expressive. Shame on the audio engineers for doing this.
Maybe they did? A few people have said that his voice was corrected on the live material. It has been mentioned in interviews that, initially, Freddie was very critical of his piano playing. That's why Brian May played piano on the first Queen song to feature piano(Doin' Alright). So, maybe Freddie had expressed that he was unhappy with his performance on the first album.
Just listened to the new single, the Night Comes Down, and admittingly, the music does sound better. But yeah, I can hear the correction in his vocals. It reminds me of AI recreating his voice. It sounds like him, but there's just something missing. Someone did a video with the original vocals and the new remix and it sounds amazing!
As a music fan (who is not a musician) I hate that auto tune and pitch correction exists. I feel it’s not only dishonest, I feel the same as you that it removes the personality of the vocalist, musicians and etc. Auto tuning Freddie is unforgivable.
It's like they removed all the character that made the vocal great in the first place. In smoothing out all the edges they've ruined what made his performance so good. I get they want to remix the album for whatever reason but this is not the way to do it.
I will get the high resolution version of the Super Deluxe but for the extras mainly. I do hope though that the remix hasn't been bastardised completely by auto tune or the bonus material. The Miracle boxset wasn't abused with auto tune.
You can’t really auto-tune a remaster (The Miracle). There’s only so much you can do with a remaster. A remix (Queen 1) on the other hand, can take all the liberties it wants, which is what can make them so dangerous (for lack of a better word).
Would he? He was critical of his teeth and his piano playing. So, would he really care that his voice was autotuned. It has been mentioned before that Freddie's voice was corrected post-production
LOL. Technically you are correct yes. I don’t consider the Red and Blue to be actual “Albums” though.....even though we call them the “Red and Blues Albums”. I consider them to be compilations.
Hello from England. I watched this video with interest and then followed your advice and watched the video about pitch correction. At first the idea of this put me right off, but then i heard two of the new remixes and i was intrigued. As I’ve never owned this album before, I took a punt and bought the single cd version. For someone in my shoes (I wasn’t around when it was first released, the original version looked less appealing, perhaps even ‘dated’ compared with some of there later releases) this seemed like a good way to try out the album. I have to say it’s ticking a lot of boxes, so perhaps despite the controversy surrounding the mix, this re-release might actually gain them some new fans. Can that be a bad thing? And weren’t Queen always a little ‘over produced’ anyway? One of the reasons I turn to records by Queen is the pleasure in the studio production. This remix reminds me of some of the recent Giles Martin Beatles albums. Again, that’s definitely a good thing.
I dread to think that this 'pitch correction' will be applied to other Queen works, especially Queen II. I think the treatment is disrespectful to the memory of a magnificent vocalist, songwriter. The 'humanity' has been drained from this track and maybe this was/is a deliberate attempt to appeal to a new generation of listeners fed on a bland diet of auto tuned music? Queen was of it's time and all the wonderful 'flaws' and experiment give this record it's character and charm. 'Sign O the Time' maybe???
I think you mean the original vocal was a few cents out of pitch from the backing track. A semitone or two is a drastic amount to be off key, which we know Freddie wasn't.
Reminds me of the time they auto-tuned Robert Lamm and Peter Cetera on that awful remix of CTA. The two things that should never be done in a remix are quantization and pitch correction. I can see this possibly backfiring for this release.
It’s very disappointing to hear that Freddie’s vocal has been autotuned. Who on Earth would think that was a good idea? These remixes can be good when they bring clarity to original recordings and bring out sounds that were there all along, but they shouldn’t mess with the original recordings. That is a red line that must not be crossed!
_When the machines take over_ _It ain't no place for rock 'n' roll_ Pitch correcting Freddie Mercury is a crime. It's making his voice boring. I'm fed up! Everything is fake these days. That's terrible that they auto-tuned Freddie Mercury's vocals. I checked out that other RUclips video. And yes, once you hear it, you can't "un-hear" it. And I could've used that box set. I only have the "'74 Rainbow" tracks on a Blu-Ray, and except for a few CD bonus tracks, never owned the BBC stuff.
I am still having trouble believing this. I really want someone out here to prove me horribly wrong. You could always get the set for the bonus tracks. But you might want to listen to it on streaming first (if it’s available).
@@TJRtheOriginal The box set doesn't even have the full BBC or '74 Rainbow songs, so I'll pass. I have a small CD-sized Queen box set, with 2 CD sets of their first five albums, without auto-tune. 😊
I would normally be the first in line for something like this, as I love Queen's debut, but it suffers from muddy production, especially the drums. However, I will not be purchasing this. I'd much rather enjoy the original, warts and all, than this AI-manipulated monstrosity.
I honestly don't think its major because with these things "remixes" there is always that element of altering imperfections, I think its not done as a "without Freddie's approval" because Freddie gave all approvals to all things upon his death. I do know the band did not like the sound of this album, I mean Roger's drums are now inserted with his own drum kit using AI, its not like Roger went back into the studio and played the whole album again and they rerecorded it, the AI was told to insert his playing sound now, and the computer overdid his tracks using his drum kit, I feel this went for other things and goes for all these remixes and re-workings, down to the Beatles "Now and Then" which is not John's bare raw vocal I mean we have to realize that they did a lot to his vocal to make that song lstenable as George Harrison said the original was not.
I don't know, but the “overrated” started from those BoRhap movie thingy and it got wild reaction by many, than anyone knows them, pros and cons indeed, but the band really missing the plot when they don't even remember their own legacy *sOnY duUhh....*
I agree with tarnishing the legacy! Auto tuning kills the human emotion and kills the feel of music! They may as well use AI to remake it perfect and artificial and soulless!Fred was perfect and emotional and we know how good a frontman he was! Totally stupid to mess with the perfect emotional vocal!Music is not perfection it is the imperfections that make it emotional and exciting! Click track drum machine and auto tune is boring!
The pitch corrected "Night Comes Down" and the unfortunate official AI video that goes with it is the most controversial thing Queen has done.
I guess that you weren't alive for Body Language?
That too was controversial @@JIF882

I have listened to both the original mix and the remix. I don't hear it. It sounds the same to me.
I would say watch the wings of pegasus video on the subject, if you haven’t already.
Hey TJR can you make a good song by mixing blues influences with electronic music and throw in the auto tune in there too
The unnecessary pitch correction is a real bummer, because the actual remix sounds really good aside from that.
