I hope there will be a live album for the upcoming record just like the 3 previous records had ( _Arriving Somewhere..._ , _Anesthezise_ , _Octane Twisted_ )
I wouldn't worry about that, I'm sure there'll be a limited platinum 2,000-page booklet with autographs, etc ad nauseam. If one thing is true about SW he knows how to market, with even a small cult following he parlayed that into quite an impressive portfolio. Not without saying, I'd own all of it if had the cash. lol
Nice interview - though I find it very surprising that nobody is addressing the elephant in the room (the elephant named Colin Edwin!) I mean, basically a member that had been there since nearly the beginning has just not shown up for the new album - and not a word from anybody about it.... I mean, a simple "he wasn't interested" or "we wanted to take the bass in a different direction" or something... but, not a word??!? Don't get me wrong - I'm super excited for the touring members they have announced. But still, this remains a pretty large unanswered question.
It has been addressed, Richard talks a bit about it in an interview that is here on RUclips. I have been lead to believe Steven says something about it in his book, I don't know for a definite as I've not read it yet. In the interview with the 3 of them they mention Colin a little bit but mainly to do with the style of bass that is on the album and finally In an interview that Colin done about a year ago he talks about not wanting to go back to being part of PT any more or working with any of the guys from PT.
@@zapthecat3913 He does address it in his book: Colin was not involved in the process at all and because SW played all bass on his own more aggressive style, it felt unnatural calling Colin now only to tell him play in a totally different style than his own, and SW feared it might create unnecessary resentment. So they decided to not call him.
There is no elephant in the room! Colin didn't want to do it. So many years have passed and some people have moved on especially from something that might be a one off project.
PT has remained in the limelight this past decade because their music is uniquely fantastic! Excited for the new release and tour. For the newbie, give FOABP and In Absentia a few plays - stunning music.
This is a great interview, full of insight and teasers for a potential touring set list; I was actively encouraged by the comment from Richard that he put forward two albums from the original line up PT of 'FOABP' & 'in Absentia' as strong contenders in addition to the given obvious newest 'C/C' but am also quite over excited for the revelation that they might also perform songs from their extensive back catalogue of material numbers they 'have never performed live before' !! I do so wish that Richard had mentioned more about his own extensive solo and other artiste collaborations (including and immediately after Japan, Dolphin Brothers and JBK to name two). Both Richard and Steven are incredibly gifted musicians, and I was left slightly wanting more from this Q&A. I suspect there may have been a pre interview set of guidance issued for the whole session of 'we will answer questions about' but not about.....and I'm not just talking about the perhaps obvious previous band members no longer in the new reincarnation of PT. As yes, Steven may well be more prolific in his solo outputs, and please don't misunderstand me whilst I have a quest to listen to as much of it as possible - in this interview, I really hoped Richard would have said a bit more about his journey. However, all that said, I absolutely cannot wait for the album to be released, and for the tour! So , I say, 'Thank you for the music....the songs I'm singing, thanks for all the joy you're bringing, who can live without it? I ask in all honesty, what would life be, etc etc' (I'm aware I may have got these classic lyrics slightly wrong #pleasebekind). Lucy 🫣
Shame about the audio quality, but I agree with Steven that he/PT have created their own sound. I became aware of it about 15 years ago when I was writing reviews and was starting to find other bands producing albums with a distinctly PT sound to them.
I think it was Richard playing keyboards on a live video I saw (several times) of "The Watchmaker" with SW, It would be an amazingly good track to add to their current setlist! I only got wind of PT just 2 or so years ago...still catching up!
Yes Adam Holman was playing keyboards for Steven Wilson during that solo tour, his touring bands are always a powerhouse of exceptional musicians. As much as I too would love to hear SW solo work, I don't think even he would ask / expect the reincarnation sorry 'continuation' of Porcupine Tree to play any. Are you seeing them in Autumn? Like you, I only discovered PT and SW about 3 years ago. Apart from some of SW solo work, I'm pretty much up to date I think?! But love ALL of it.
3:34 “The most challenging thing was to come up with an album that didn’t sound like more of the same”. I actually love that it sounds the same. Don’t get bored of it. GIVE US MORE OF THE SAME PLEASE 🙏🏼 .
Believe me, if it was really more of the same, you'd be disappointed too. The trick is to keep the same core and the spirit of PT, but still adding more to it and they certainly did it right
To replace the Bass player because of the change of style composed by the song writer i call that a solo project using a name as a vehicle not trying to be disrespectful Steven Wilson solo stuff is amazing but whatever it is what it is good luck with it
This is the worst audio ever put out on You Tube, and the person responsible for recording this interview , and audio always crackling in the the right channel throughout the interview, should be fired ASAP.
First saw Richard when Playing with Japan , his keyboard sound was perfect , his sound scapes for PT were amazing
My right ear loves this.
Nice FZ repping from SW
I love the energy flow between Richard and Steven.
Steven, please, let Richard speak!
I hope there will be a live album for the upcoming record just like the 3 previous records had ( _Arriving Somewhere..._ , _Anesthezise_ , _Octane Twisted_ )
So do we all
Absolutely! 🍻

C'est génial que ce groupe revienne à la vie. Dommage que Colin ne fasse pas partie de l'aventure cependant.

@@zapthecat3913 but the Elephant still remains in the room...
@@zagortenay2797 not really.

the audio in this interview is fantastic!
Check the other made at hellfest on this channel. Much better
Tix for Copenhagen and London. Can’t wait. Love the way this is now driven by all 3 rather than a band delivering a solo artist’s work

Deadwing was the peak.

thank you for the kind words Lucy !
thanks for loud tv to invite these 2 amazing guys, OMG.!! steven wear Zappa shirt
thank you !

sounds, I might say. There is no connection soundwise between Lightbulb, signify and fear of blank planet
My right ear loved this
Love the Zappa tee shirt
Nice interview. Thanks :)
Thank you !
I love the Frank Zappa Tshirt Steven is wearing... polirizing moods...
wow! "....i'm not really a team player....." sounds like a truth. very impressive.

Ok! Adam Holzman! Both of them look just similar enough! LOL!
The audio on here is so bad at times! In this day and age how can anyone get this so wrong? The content though is A1.
Surprisingly honest interview. Liked it
thank you dylan
For what it was that was great!
Cool Zappa shirt, Steven!
I loved Deadwing because it was also very band oriented

So far, to me, the new songs sound just like the Nil Recurring recordings. Clean, cold, perfect. I hear no difference at all.
Proper shirt Steven is wearing!
Im sure they will be a blu ray&live album 😃

🔥Porcupine rule🔥
I was here. :)
25:20 yessss
Dear god. I really wanted to watch this, but I can't listen to 40 minutes with audio in only one ear. :(
Is the point of loud tv to distort the audio on only send to the right speaker? Coincidence, or this is the branding? lol
is this audio only on right channel?
I did not catch who the supporting musicians on the tour will be- who are they?
It´s Randy McStine on guitar and Nate Navaroo on bass.
@@deepsky2115 Thanks....
Mike Portnoy and John Petrucci
Where did the interviewers listen to the new album???
Promo album

The audio of this video is as bad as Metallica’s discography. Thanks for the upload though!

You can instantly recognize French interviewers from their accent 😂 French are so bad at English speaking. But good interview 👍
They're still way better than English speaking people trying to speak French!
