I’ve been for the first time in BELGRADE 5 years ago and for me it’s one of the most UNDERRATED city in Europe .
This country has a really strong Culture with nice Values.
I think people from the West have a lot to learn of Serbia , yes there are corruption problems , yes their past are tough .
But their hospitality and kindness are so impressive.

Serbs are the most genuine, big hearted and warm people I have met. Unlike anywhere else in Europe, they have their beliefs and stick with them they do not wh++e themselves out. I hope Serbs will be able to navigate toward a brighter future for their country.

By looks and also very likely by DNA as the area where I was born was populated by migrants from Serbia and the name of the city is in Serbian language and many of the surnames of local tribes are Serbian and Edith Durham mentions all that in her book. I recently heard about a woman who returned to Orthodoxy and married a Serb from Kosovo, and another boy from Kosovo, who grew up albanian and learned about his past. There are serbs who were only born as such, but did not choose it, it does not matter where you are from, being a Serb is not decided only by blood, but in spirit. West have bud reputation in Srebia as well.We don’t won’t too become part of EU,and we don’t like EU! We don’t forget EU and US bombing and sanctions! Tourists are welcome from all world, Serbia is safe country.After all, we can be some kind of friends, we can trade and nothing else.

The girl at 3:30 gave the only correct answer here. Serbia doesn't have a bad reputation and most people don't even know about Serbia. Not once did we talk about Serbia at school or university and even when it's mentioned in the media it's only when they talk about Djokovic or Jokic. There also aren't many stereotypes surrounding Serbs, unlike Albanians/Romanians etc. who are often perceived as criminals in the west. I only have one friend that hates Serbia and that's just cause he looked at the history and drew his conclusions.

I actually grew up as a Serbian in Sweden and people do not have a very bad image of Serbia. I dont think they have any image of Serbia. Most bad opinions are related to middle eastern and african countries + China and Russia of course.
Yeah I've also lived in Sweden for 30+ years. Swedes don't really think of Serbia more than Slivovitz, Cevapi etc. Most don't even have an opinion on the war in the 90s. It's pretty much all the same to them. But Swedes in general are not interested in other conflicts.

I think it's all about western propaganda that we are all exposed to quite often. As a Turkish guy I visited Belgrade like 3 weeks ago, had a chance to speak with lots of local people there and the people I met turned out to be the exact opposite of what I expected. They were quite friendly, cheerful, talkative and always willing to help. It's a fact that Serbs love their country and their own people a lot, you can see Serbian flags almost everywhere, but this doesn't mean that they are not lovely people and don't like other people. I hope I get to see that country again.

So listen to what Serbs have to say, listen to what our great great grandparents had experience and their sufferings and Serbs still suffer. @politica6271 Anti-Fascism Day is a Croatian national holiday. So obviously there is a strong anti-Hitler current in Croatian culture as well. Just like Serbia had Milošević, it also had a grassroots movement that successfully toppled Milošević.

Why did Serbia have a lot of support from the Western media in the first world war (except Germany and Austria) 1914-1918. Why NATO expanded to the EAST, after 1989. From this year, this question begins. Serbs are a nation of freedom and defend themselves from the West or the East throughout their history. You can study history without asking a stupid question.

Serbian people, in general, are proud people who are proud of Serbia due to Serbia´s trials and tribulations throughout its history. That pride is somewhat lost with the westerners. They hated Serbia way before the wars of the 1990s, they even hated Yugoslavia when that country existed. Westerners, mislead by their media, in general, are ignorant of the fact that Serbia/Yugoslavia has/had a rich culture and history, has had a pivotal role in world changing events and has produced some of the finest and brightest men and women per capita the world have seen. That is something the Serbian people are proud of. If westerners were to be equally proud of their people, their country and their history, they would not hate us.
Almost all Serbs I've ever known are good, friendly, helpful, hospitable and funny people - as a people they are great (and the food is amazing!). However the problem, as with almost all countries, are their governments... too much influence of the church on the state e.g. the Kosovo mythomania (Vidovdan wasn't celebrated outside of one monastery 200 years ago), and the ideology of Načertanije which has negatively influenced the whole region for almost 200 years, and which has with time purposely been trickled down into the social consciousness of their society by their governments. Serbs who are highly educated, and who's outlook is individual rather than collective are in the top tier of world citizens ❤ (I'm not Serb btw)
I'm not a Serb either.., but I love my Serbian friends and neighbours. I think Tito made a mistake in getting rid of drug Leka (aka Aleksandar Ranković) because that did not bode well with Serbs and once that guy and an entire number of Serbian communists who believed in YU were removed, people came into power in Serbia, just waiting to break up SFRJ (one of them Milosevic). Apropos Kosovo, isn't that really Serbian region for centuries.., where they alone defended Europe from the Turks? Yes, you are correct Načertanije is a problem.
Serbia doesn’t have enough church influence let alone too much. Vidovdan is a historic holiday celebrating the battle of Kosovo, it was even celebrated by Milosevic in Gazimestan, who was a communist atheist, where many communists were there attending as well, it’s a national holiday as well, sign of uprising against the Ottomans who invaded Europe. The church only promotes good values and traditional, they do not shame anyone, just encourage people to refrain from sin.
What you said about the government is absolutely correct, and most of the issues with the government and system as well as society are a result of communism and pushing away from religious traditional values engrained in Serb culture, to those of communists who outbanned it fully:

Never been there but I feel no matching in personality with Serbians as I see them in videos. However I’m sure that it still (and one of the rarest countries) that preserves orthodoxy and Christianity in general and that’s really good
