I think that the bottle crumples up because the air molecules are more agitated when heated up, therefore pressurizing the bottle, so when cooled down rapidly, all that pressure dissipates really quickly, which makes the bottle depressurize and cave in on itself. Pretty cool to be honest

That's correct. I try to let my elementary students figure that out though and draw their own conclusions.
