    Explore & Dominate
    The Fortin Cali reflects the history of Fortin Amplification, culminating in a 50w amplifier that covers the cleanest vintage tones, classic hot rod British styles, and rich high gain distortion. Fortin is one of the most desired boutique brands in the industry, and the Fortin Cali delivers the full range with a classic approach to sound texture, giving you all the possibilities to shape the tone to your needs. A control station to be explored and dominated.
    Three Channels
    The Fortin Cali features three channels - Clean, OD2, and OD1.
    Violence Switch
    OD2 and OD1 channels have an assignable VIOLENCE stage for increasing the overall gain.
    Push/Pull Bass Pot
    Passive interactive low-frequency equalization for all channels. Pull it out for global saturation and more gain and compression. It is normal for the level to drop a bit which causes less volume fed to the power amp. On the clean channel, the saturation does not take effect until the clean gain control is at 2 o’clock and beyond.
    Thump Switch
    3-way switch for negative feedback control of low-frequency interaction between amplifier and speakers. Left: Low; Center:High; Right: Medium. With less feedback there is less power amp saturation and a more scooped sound. Control at a lower master volume position for more defined differences.
    Hair Switch
    3-way switch for negative feedback control of high-frequency interaction between amplifier and speakers. Left: Medium; Center: Low; Right: High. With less feedback there is less power amp saturation and a more scooped sound. Control at a lower master volume position for more defined differences.
    Bright Switch
    3-way bright switch for each channel that provides a high-frequency boost that becomes less active as gain control is increased. Combine this with the Clean/Gain 1/Gain 2 controls for endless tone-shaping possibilities!
    Grind, Zuul & Hexdrive pedals
    A model of Fortin Amplification’s GRIND pedal was added to the virtual signal chain to create a complete suite that incorporates all the necessary tone-shaping tools for the modern guitarist.
    Besides additional gain, GRIND adds an incredible amount of clarity and articulation to the sound, making every note defined and present, even when highly distorted. Use on more low end rich amp sounds to add tightness.
    The Cali also features the Fortin ZUUL pedal. Widely regarded as the epitome of noise-gate performance and transparency! This virtual studio-grade noise gate gets the job done with a simple straightforward operation. ZUUL will respect your fast play stops and your long releases without interfering on your interpretation.
    The HEXDRIVE adds further tone-shaping possibilities, bringing classic and modern overdrive tones to the plugin suite.
    Cabsim
    To offer maximum flexibility, we engineered a very comprehensive and adaptive cabinet simulation module featuring six virtual microphones, which can be positioned around the speakers. The cabsim section features 125 IRs captured by Adam “Nolly” Getgood.
    This module can also serve as a standard loader for your favorite impulse response files.
    These features can be used on both mono and stereo configurations; the latter allows for a second microphone to be added with full panning, microphone level, and phase parameters in addition to position and distance, for ultimate control and endless sonic possibilities.
    Standalone
    The Standalone feature allows you to quickly install, plug and play. Standalone is perfect for practice on the go and live use.

    I have this and it is amazing once you learn the controls and how they interact with each other. I’m not a big fan of any provided presets with any of these types of plugins, regardless of company, so I always start from scratch. Although the included delay and reverb sound really good, I prefer using such effects via my DAW. I tend to use “Amp Room” in ChromaVerb in Logic and dial back the mix a bit. I use Cali Suite for plexi type of cleaner crunchy sounds then add the pedals provided in the suite for more gain. I played semi-professionally from the age of 17 to 33 and I’ve owned many great amps over the years, and, from my personal experience, this Cali Suite is extremely versatile and can be made to sound fantastic. Anything from punchy clean to crazy gain. I have the Tone King Imperial MK2 as well, which I thought would be able to get me some real good clean tones, but I guess I assumed wrong of the purpose of that amp. I get better clean tones from the Cali Suite.

    I play blues-rock, stoner rock, southern rock. I am your typical boring low gain, tube amp only kinda guy. I tried a quite few plug-ins and sims (even profiling amps but that is a matter of another topic) to use at home but they just didn’t work for me. But i had to find an alternative since a tube amp is a hard beast to tame when you’re playing in your living room. Well, a few weeks ago i tried WONG and the 3rd amp model in that suite really impressed me. It also took pedals well (an Xotic AC Booster and a Strymon Deco in that particular case) and for the first time in my life I was able forget that this was not an actual amp but a software. Then i tried Nolly, Soldano and this one. Nolly was not my cup of tea. Soldano is really good but it is a one trick pony (as it was designed to be). This one, man! This one is awesome. I only use the crunch channel with two pedals (Xotic ACB and Strymon Deco) but i also use the software drive and boost too. I don’t stack them except Deco is always on with minimal tape drive but it provides enough tape saturation. The drive and the boost in this app is superb. The amp has so many cool voicing options. As my fellow people here i also believe that a reverb and a delay wouldn’t have hurt. So, if you are a blues rocker like me give this one a try.

    Bought this a couple of weeks ago... as someone who has Plini, Nolly, Nameless and a couple of Nembrini plugs, honestly if I was looking for my first guitar sim I'd buy this and save myself a fortune! You can get just about any tone out of this from gorgeous cleans to filth that even leaves Nameless behind, and I never thought I'd say that! If you were to buy this plus a couple of Ownhammer or Dr Bonkers IR packs, you could get literally ANY tone you want from this amp... and it plays in such a nuanced, real-amp kind of way I seriously don't think you would ever need another amp... apart from obviously the gear-slut "gotta have new stuff" insanity that infects us all.... 🤣
    I totally agree however with all the comments asking for a basic reverb/delay etc. in the standalone... c'mon Neural - at least just give us 4 empty VST slots on the ends of the standalone plugins!

    Steven, Hope all is safe and healthy with you these days! It was nice to meet you and Paul at NAAM. I just got the Yamaha HS5’s, and to be honest they really don’t sound all that great with my Plini plugins via my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (Gen 1). Just not coming over with that punch and clarity you hear and see on RUclips these days, its better through my Sennheiser headphones. Should I bite the “bullet” and upgrade to the HS7’s? Or is my interface the one that needs an upgrade:> Be safe and stay healthy my Friend.

    • @chrisstrong3748
      @chrisstrong3748 4 года назад +1

      If you're comparing your tone to youtube, try listening to both with the headphones and compare. You say the headphones sound better than your HS7's? It may be that you need to do some treatment in your listening environment or use something like sonarworks to calibrate/compensate your speakers for your listening spot. It won't "fix" the room, but it will come out more neutral in your listening spot for a more accurate representation.
      It's better to make sure you're getting a neutral sound from your room and speakers first, then see where you can improve your signal chain along the way.
      It would suck to spend money on bigger speakers or an interface and have the same issues with the sound. Or trying different pickups and heavy EQ'ing that sounds good in the room, but terrible on everything you try to play it back on

      Jason Brogly I have a Scarlett 1st Gen 2i2 and with the plini plugin the sound would sometimes jump, especially with the clean sounds with delay. Would this have anything to do with it being a first gen model and possibly struggles to cope with the plugin? My Mac is about 3 - 4 years old.

    • @davidfournier3355
      @davidfournier3355 4 года назад

      @@chrisstrong3748 The room and environment is fine, its got to be the 1st Gen 2i2 I’m running it through. I’m upgrading to the HS7’s. I purchased the HS5’s to save a few clams and need to upgrade the interface with a more robust preamp that are designed in the newer versions. I tried to cheap it out and thats my own fault.

    • @jcalla28
      @jcalla28 4 года назад

      One of the main differences is that the ZUUL isn't available in non-Fortin plugins, and there isn't another noise gate pedal to replace it in the other Neural DSP plugins. I'm not sure if there is a difference in the location within the chain. I would assume not, as that would defeat the purpose. I guess it's the same thing as having an output knob within the amp and another within the plugin.
