What is Exegesis?

Why are commentaries, journal articles, and exegetical studies done in seminaries and colleges often so different from what happens when people read the Bible for devotional purposes or when pastors sit down to prepare sermons?

Very well done. I was surprised however, that there wasn't a single reference to the Inspiration of the Holy Spirit, as a vital part of the interpretive process. A critical element in our development! If we decifer only by our own understanding and fact-finding, we are leaving out the Inspirational quality, intended by the Creator who motivated the Authors.
