When I was with the FAA at Sea-Tac, we used a similar set-up to find stuck mics on the Ground Control frequency on the airport...lots of vehicles had VHF rigs installed, to facilitate movement on the airport surface. Real-world example, and time was of the essence. Nice video, Mike! -- 73, Vic KB7GL
One of the best and simplest directional "antenna" I've found for fox hunting is a couple of juice or large soup cans with the bottom removed from one and taped end to end to make a long metal tube. drop your ht with or without the antenna as required into the cans. With a bit of practice it's more than sufficient and it's about as simple as you can get.
Pretty awesome Mike hunting transmitters in the fog look like he was having a lot of fun doing that too. Hey be careful and be safe. Thanks for the video. WD5ENH Steve
Hi Mike, I've never been to a fox hunt, but have seen many on RUclips. Glad you had fun. That last one sitting on that post out in the open was a stubborn one. Stay safe. 73 WJ3U
There are two nice smartphone apps for foxhunting that work with the GPS in your phone and allow you to point the phone and lay and save a bearing line on a live map. SigTrax, and FoxHunt Pro. With an in app purchase, you can save your bearings to a server that other members on your team can access so you can have a spread out group of people hunting bearings from all around the county. It really speeds up hunting, or for finding people causing interference on ham freqs.
been doing this many years . even on CB. now make it hard. find a moving target . we did that with a HT. took all day . walking around in a big park all day. 73's
@@hamradiotube that’s what it is, I was looking at the houses with no gardens fences etc and couldn’t put my finger on what it reminded me of. I thought a crazy HOA at first and I was hoping for an encounter with the manager ! I’m going to see if any of my local clubs do foxhunting.
Question for everyone -- What's the smallest fox you've come across, who makes it, and do you think there would be any interest in a smaller fox product ?
Need more "increments"? Use a Tiny SA. I tried this out during our DF exposition for the BSA Jamboree on the air a few weeks ago. Worked like a champ. Fox Killa! 73 K0ATV
This brings back memories of the old days of tracking hounds, with telemetry collars and a quick track receiver. Thank goodness for gps tracking.
Fox hunting can be a blast. I have done a lot with my kids when they were young. They had more fun than I did. Our Foxes were live aka other Hams.
Oh wow that sounds like a great time. Cool you had other hams be the foxes too!

Thank you for yours and thanks for watching.
Very cool. They should hide a PB Twix with the transmitter for whoever finds it first. Just a thought. LOL
Dude, I can’t find peanut butter Twix anywhere!! What happened to it?

K5RWK foxhunts every weekend all weekend.
Great to see families out doing radio stuff, was this at a camp site or something?
It's actually a bunch of houses owned by the Navy. They rent them out for their service men and women really cheap. It's awesome.

Good advise. I don't own one, but those look like a pretty cool tool to have in your arsenal. Lord knows I need another gadget!
I enjoyed a nice Pepsi while watching. Better than any Coke crap.
