Definitions are important, the escape plan could reference tunnels and not shafts and if you've been using shafts all your life instead of tunnels, imagine the position you'd be in, fantastical once you are in "the know", but actually consider not knowing some things you know, and you'll start to see why people correct some people, it makes sense.

Jesus Christ, I almost messed myself. Clearly Destin was just catering to the assumption that he didn't have as a profound grasp on American English as most other English speaking people with that much of an accent, as to be polite but dude totally schooled him in a very funny yet polite way. Actually, a vertical shaft has drives horizontally...lol Great that you hooked up with George...I've seen him working with quite a few miners. Opals form all over the world by the way...Aussie opals are unique in the world so far. :)
I'm a little late to the party, but shafts are vertical entry passages to tunnels or mines, tunnels are underground passageways (note the non specific degree of the direction the hole takes), and an Adit is a horizontal tunnel.

No actually it could be colour, we refer to opal that doesnt have the shiny bits as having no colour, also known as potch opal. And opal that does have shiny bits as opal with colour, when you go mining with a few blokes youll find theyll start yelling "colour, colour" from the other side of the mine when they find something

I'm an Aussie myself, about 800 kms from Coober Pedy and George's charisma & attitude is so very common amongst many hard knox happy Australians. Many people from overseas adapt so well to this blessed country's humour, wit and charm.
I know a 77 year old Spanish fella, Jose, who has lived here most his life and has still retained his accent but is absolutely bogan hilarious and proudly Australian. Similarly to this dude.
Sure is a great place to live.
I travelled to Cooper Pedy in 1985. As a young Canadian backpacker I attended a New years eve party at an opal mine. The local people were definitely a special breed. This video brought back a flood of memories. All good!!

Destin I just want to thank you for this video. My Grandmother loved opal and I had the joy of watching this with her and my Grandpop just months before they both passed together. I will always think back to watching this video with them and smile. They were blown away with the opal mining process.

I'm sort of curious if The Great Courses is still relevant as a paid service. I became a jewelers apprentice about 9 months ago. I’m not a jewelry wearer but the tiny tools got me interested. I decided the ONLY piece I would ever wear is an opal I found myself. I still don’t wear jewelry but it’s some of the most fulfilling creative work I have ever been apart of. Opal are the coolest!!!
