After fighting fires for 35 years in Chicago I can honestly say that I have never seen a surround and drown fire attack as aggressive as this one! My hats off to the fire crews from Miami Fire Rescue that fought this fire. Trust me, it could have been much, much worse. The application of Class A firefighting foam was key to the success of this intervention. Chief Hughes Battalion 1 (retired) Chicago FD
Take a look at the firefighting foam spilling from the balcony. This is how a great fire department stops fires before they spread to adjacent buildings. I salute the Firefighters of Miami Fire and Rescue for their efforts to stop this fire with foam. Had they used plain, untreated water the fire could have caused the building to collapse which hampers evacuations and rescues of trapped occupants. Also, the foam used to put this fire out is enviromentally safe Class A structural firefighting foam and NOT Class B aircraft firefighting foam which contains PFAS which has been linked to cancer in humans and animals. Chief Hughes Battalion 1 (retired) Chicago FD
No. What amazes me about the foam is that it is toxic. And in other states the companies that produce the foam are being sued. And right to the bitter end they will continue to sell it. If you live down there, don't go in the adjacent river or fish from it for a while.
@@jeffreywitczak9840 So you don’t know the difference between Class A (environmentally safe) and Class B (toxic) foam then. Fires are chemistry and physics. We use different extinguishing agents to fight different kinds of fires. Class B foam is used to fight Aircraft fires and has been found to contain what’s known as PFAS - a forever chemical that has been linked to cancer in humans and animals. Class A foam - the foam that Miami Fire Rescue used to suppress this fire is structural firefighting foam and is not intended to fight Aircraft fires that use volatile jet fuel. The foam used at this fire is similar to dish soap. If you think dish soap gives you cancer you might as well stop using shampoo, and bar soap as well as laundry detergent.
@@jeffreywitczak9840 do you know the difference between Class A structural firefighting foam used at this fire and Class B aircrafft fuel foam? One is non-toxic and one is toxic.

If you ever move to a big housing complex, be sure that it's primary structure is traditional in that it is made of reinforced concrete, not entirely of wood.
Actually, it's not an adjacent building. The complex is built in a U shape. The heavy black smoke you see has probably travelled through the hallways and roof area. Tough one to put out...
What in the world did that old man use to create this fire?! That young man may die, countless people are now homeless, lost their medication and belongings, and a complex is destroyed. Why is this reporter constantly repeating the same thing? So sad.
Same building...the complex is built in a U shape and sadly it doesn't take the fire long to travel around as the firefighters are not able to do an interior attack.
I want to know why they didn't cut a trench across the shared roof on the bottom part of the U section to help prevent the spread of the fire before that part of the building became unstable? They had plenty of time, personnel and equipment. Somebody mess up and missed an opportunity.

If that building was built before 1930, then most likely constructed using Dade County Pine also known as Slash Pine. I've seen a few of those apartment buildings go up in S. Florida. Once it gets burning, it is very hard to put out which is why it was banned.
The Temple Apartment buildings were built in 1920. Dade County Pine was not banned for home construction. Why it isn't used any longer is because it was over harvested and nearly extinct. It was definitely connected. I can confirm. I was one of the victims in this.
