Great lesson, thank you. As a part time self taught drummer there were some great ideas in your lesson to use and play around with. I look forward to taking them to the kit!
Rob you are great at teaching drums . I really appreciate your counting and going over it slow in the beginning of your lessons . I'm having so much fun learning to play the drums. I'm doing lessons before and after work.
Hiya. That really is a musical choice depending on the style of music and "mood". Some drummers find that they have to play the bass drum because that's the only way they know how...unfortunately, as cool as it sounds, it doesn't always fit the music.
I would still consider this lesson appropriate for drummers who have been playing for a few months though! It takes more than a couple of weeks of playing and/or lessons to not be "Beginner" any more...in my opinion.
I took weekly lessons and had already had a couple years of middle school concert band drums when I started, and I didnt learn the concept of creating fills like this until a couple months in. Before that it was basic beats and then songs to help teach me structure and stuff.
Thanks, Duncan. I'm self taught initially so am right handed but left footed. I managed to make it work for me over the years. All my lessons focus on a standard set up though, so don't worry!
That was as slow as I wanted to go for this video, but you could always re-watch as many times as you need...and the free music notation tells you the parts. Good luck and thanks for your interest!

I had a mate who was called Robert Linton, I wondered whether you were named after him.
its great as a begginer
Thank you🙏👍
What kit is that u have?
Hi mate, another quick question. Should you keep the bass drum going during the drum fills?
Hiya. That really is a musical choice depending on the style of music and "mood". Some drummers find that they have to play the bass drum because that's the only way they know how...unfortunately, as cool as it sounds, it doesn't always fit the music.
Thanks for the tips. Im a 58yr old beginner and I really enjoy your stuff.
Nice video. Would say its best for drummers who have only just started (couple of weeks).
Absolutely! This lesson is aimed at drummers that have just started. Thanks for your interest and support! Rob
www.DrumsTheWord.com yeah i just wanted to leave a comment in case drummers who are still beginners but have been playing for a few months click. :D
I would still consider this lesson appropriate for drummers who have been playing for a few months though! It takes more than a couple of weeks of playing and/or lessons to not be "Beginner" any more...in my opinion.
www.DrumsTheWord.com Yeah I see what your saying but personally this was the first things my drum teacher taught me.
I took weekly lessons and had already had a couple years of middle school concert band drums when I started, and I didnt learn the concept of creating fills like this until a couple months in. Before that it was basic beats and then songs to help teach me structure and stuff.
Like..
Hi mate, great drum lessons but why have you got the hi hat on your right and the bass with your left foot?
Thanks, Duncan. I'm self taught initially so am right handed but left footed. I managed to make it work for me over the years. All my lessons focus on a standard set up though, so don't worry!
Thanks for the quick reply,I've just retaken up drumming after a 25 year lay off and your lessons have been fantastically helpfull
Those fills are awesome, but could you please show us the last drum fill a little slower ?
That was as slow as I wanted to go for this video, but you could always re-watch as many times as you need...and the free music notation tells you the parts. Good luck and thanks for your interest!
