You'll probably get some flak for this video being sponsored by HP and talking about an inkjet printer... but don't let that discourage you. I found this quite interesting. Pagewide isn't a technology most people are familiar with; you explained and demonstrated it very well, while making a concise, thoughtful review. I wouldn't mind seeing more similar sponsored content, as long the opinions expressed therein are honest and the product is innovative. Thanks, Wendell.

+Tek Syndicate I agree with John; nothing wrong with you receiving money that way, and it was interesting. You guys say right up front that it's sponsored (and almost none of your videos are!), and I know I can trust you to be honest. It's nice to see you getting support!
+John Drachenberg I doubt they will get that much flak...Sponsored videos are not evil...Not being honest about it is...The Tek guys have always been straight about it...And their audience appreciates that.
+Tek Syndicate 1 thing I would like to see added: (SPONSORED) in the title. Many years of youtube has conditioned me to skip 10-15 sec into a video 95% of the time, to skip the intros/repeating what the title says.
+Luís D'Arcadia well he mentioned that the printer had been repacked a couple of times, which most likely means they're sending it back once they're done with it
+Tek Syndicate Im not sure about this, but isnt it mandatory to say that it is a sponsored video in the USA? Im curious! PS: I am from Austria and here, wo dont have to.
I can vouch for this printer. We have a 476, which uses similar technology and in the past year we have beat the crap out of the printer with big print jobs and it still runs like it's new. It's actually running better than a lot of our lasers.
He has the same USB-Stick as me... HE HAS THE EXACT SAME MODEL OF USB-STICK AS ME!!!! That's not something you see every day. I'm about to faint from excitement.

Martin Barkaway Nielsen .................. . . . Did you see how easily he was able to print from his smartphone? From his freaking SMARTPHONE!!! That's amazing!
This is the kind of sponsored video I really enjoy. Fairly impartial, mentions potential biases at the outset and then goes through all of the hardware.
Wendell, I just bought this printer based on your review. It will be delivered on Monday. One of my main reasons to buy this was the technology. Low cost per page and the speed. It's definately more than I need but the cost saving with the ink and duplex printing to me was worth it. I'm looking forward to see how it prints photos on glossy photo paper. I downloaded the manuel from HP website and printed out on mu HP Mono laser. I'll be up to speed by the time I receive the printer. Thanks for your review.
I personally owned one of this printers, which I use for my small business so far it works really well, printing copies really fast, the scanner has a good quality, but the most important thing I can print directly from any mobile device which allows you to work fast on the go without having to login in you computer to print. Really good printer.
We've been using Page wide HD printers in my office for nearly 2 years now. The cost per page is lower than our old Kyocera Colour lasers and we've had no problems with them at all! Good video.
I use the last gen prox 570dw by HP with similar specs. up to 80k pages printed, 15k duplex pages. so far the only issues are literally a couple paper jams. very easy to use. would completely recommend . we print about 25k-40k pages a year. would buy again or newer model if it ever dies.
I really appreciate that you stated it's a sponsored video. Thank you. Not that it influences me either way, other than just having more respect for the Tek
The high cost of replacing ink/toner is my biggest annoyance and concern. I'm considering buying a laser printer for the better accuracy and reduced cost of ownership (excluding initial purchase cost) - but this printer seems very exciting and fast. I also do not print very often and laser was touted to be better for such use. 1. Can someone please tell confirm *whether the ink/toner on this printer is more economical than the average laser printer?* 2. Do these ink cartridges have a certain shelf-life? I know that some ink cartridges tend to dry up and become very ineffective if not used frequently enough. Is this the case with this printer also? 3. Can we use non-HP ink/toner cartridges on this printer to further lower the cost of ownership?
Just got this printer for my small business a week ago and love it! I used to have an HP Laser Printer for years I was reluctant to switch to ink jet, but gave it a try knowing I can return the unit within 30 days should I not be happy. I'm not a tech person, but managed to set up the printer all by myself (Whoo-Huhh) and get it running with all features except for the scanner I'm still struggling with trying to figure it out. Any suggestions how to go about this? Other then that - highly recommended!
This was interesting to think about. I'm really shocked that the pagewide idea hadn't been done years ago! As much as I've had ups and downs with hp (I had a laptop that broke a month after the warranty, but I also have 2 monitors that I've had forever), if they came up with this, my hat is off to them.
This is a sick printer for an inkjet! It would be cool to see this kind of tech keep Inkjet going - the problem is the high ink cost and shitty printer quality. Time to turn that around.
The super yield ink is not that expensive compared to laser ink toner, in fact it's cheaper. You get 10,000 pages for BLK and 7000 pages for the colors. Here's the cost at HP. I'm sure other websites have sales that will further cut the cost. High Yield: Colors 136.00, 7000 pgs. BLK 140.00, 10,000 pgs. total cost= 548.00 Regular: Colors 80.00, 3000 pgs. BLK 70.00, 3500 pgs. Total Cost= 310.00 Not bad.
I have the previous version of this printer, the HP Officejet Pro X476. Very good performance, very fast printing. Also very cheap to maintain but because it prints so fast, I print more than before. The text is crisp (very close to laser quality) but image quality can be improved, I think that the colors should be more saturated. It's acceptable printing solid colors of graphs, diagrams... As you've said, this printer is great printer for small-medium buisness.
Selling the older models of these at work, the X476DW and X576DW, when they're on sale, it really is a compelling buy, especially given that those ink tanks give you more pages at a lower price per page than most toner drums (Brother XL being the exception, they usually do 5000 pages rather than the more common 2000-3500). When they're on sale, they're really not too bad (~$300 cad for the 476), but it is a large initial investment, and the tanks aren't inexpensive, even if they are a nice value, so most consumers balk at it.
I am not actually interested in buying a printer, but I watched this video for tek syndicate. Keep up the good content! Btw: I like that you clearly stated it was a sponsored video
I'm not lying when I say I've been using hp inkjet printers for over 15 years. I know what some of their printers are rated for and while AIO (all in one) printers aren't designed for crazy usage, I've duplex printed 1000 pages per day (tabloid and letter) on various models and refilled dozens of gallons worth of ink. I would have killed to have a full page width print head back in those days. Maybe about 3 or 4 years ago, HP finally became less greedy by not making the print head for each color a consumable product. On a day to day I am using an hp printer for regular docs and an all in one mostly for network scanning and scan to email function. The one thing lacking in your review is the web based interface. HP literally has the best web configuration backend compared to brother and epson. I might consider this as an upgrade for my office when our current AIO dies. And with windows 8 and 10 it's just plug and play to your network. You don't have to install the disk anymore, unless you actually want to scan from your pc. I always just scan from the printer and scan to a network folder and keep the printer bloatware off my pc.
A really great review, the speed is amazing, I've never seen that full page technology. Just a quick question, how is HP's Linux support for this printer? Thanks.
I have the higher end model of this printer "HP Officejet Pro X576dw MFP". It's pretty awesome and nice. VERY FAST printing with really good quality prints.
Can someone tell me if i can edit the "contacts" for the scan to e-mail, from my browser? Or does it have to be done on the printer screen? Thanks Tek Syndicate for the video :)
Congrats on the video, the review and for getting sponsors guys. Love the channel. I know you gotta make a living, please don´t become another BIASED tech channel in the near future. Would love to get one of this printers here for my job!!
+alexandsimba Don't blame Ad Block. Ad Block is a symptom of the disease that is web ads. The truth is, website devs and advert companies have gone insane with ad content that is so intrusive it makes browsing a painful experience.
***** I've been online since 1993. I can tell you it has become a mess. Some sites are good. I have everything disabled when I'm on RUclips. Other sites are abusive. Never mind the ads, you can't even move your mouse without hitting Intellitext and having a window or ad pop up. WIthout NoScript and uBlock, it would be game over for sane browsing. I do IT work for the SOHO market. Let me tell you, NoScript and uBlock keep my client's PCs safe and clean. Client's that don't use those tools are constantly having problems, infections, toolbars installed, so on and so on. You need these tools. Just try to donate to good groups and/or disable those tools when you can.
Will u do a video comparing this with those printers with super-high-capacity, refillable ink tanks and ultra low-cost replacement inks, like Epson's EcoTank series printers? Thx~
I've seen the XL4000 or XL5000 (can't remember) print full size sheets. I'd have to see one but it looks like a good solution. Inkjet MFP's are cool for their other functions, but even if the head can sense a clog, what can it do to remedy it? It can only switch nozzles so many times.
And the thing they dont tell you is the machine will work for 20-30k pages in the "real world" environment before white streaking occurs from damaged/clogged print nozzles. And its uneconomical to replace the printhead. Great while it works, but general money pit. The Lack of direct connection to Earth in the Power Supply causes frequent "blue screen of death" errors in home/work environments that suffer from high amounts of static electricity. Staff dragging their feet on the carpet as they walk up to the printer to collect printouts then touching the printer transfers static electric charge to the machine and the motherboard flips out and hangs, forcing the user to unplug and replug the unit at the power socket. Seen many customers with this fault.
How long will the ink last without drying out? I print 5,000 documents a year in Black (HP4250) and 500 pages a year in Color (HP2025) and Scan about 5,500 pages a year (HP Scanjet Pro 3000). The reason I haven't used Inkjet in the past is cost per page and that the print heads dry out from lack of use. I usually do all my printing on Fridays so I go a week without printing at a time.
Is this printer seeingyellow? Does it print the forensic tracking dots that make your printouts traceable, like on practically every colour laser printer?
Can you please advise, how would low volume, or occasional printing affect the performance or cost per page of the ink? With previous inkjets, the ink would dry out or expire before I could get half the usage out of the cartridge. I bought a Samsung color laser all in one for $120 on sale years ago, and have never had to replace the toner. It kind of sold me on laser. My parents were looking to replace their old hp all in one inkjet, so I found a great deal on a laser, the m281fdw. We both ordered one, supposed to be delivered later today. But I’m wondering how this PageWide technology would work for someone who may go a few months without printing anything, then do a project which may require high volume for a month, or occasional low volume printing. I know it may be overkill and the initial cost may not be justified, but you’re paying for the features and quality, not just print volume. Although this printer is maybe a little beyond the high end of budget for casual home users. Thanks for your input!
Uniformity problem. My test on Staples: uniform horizontal color strips on portrait letter size pdf file does not print as uniform strips. It looks as if the page wide print head has several sections. Each section prints slightly different color compared to another section. We can notice the difference of colors from the two adjacent sections. At same Staples store, I printed the same pdf file on a HP color laser printer. The uniform horizontal color strips were printed as uniform color strips. I printed the same pdf file on a Canon Maxify inkjet printer in which the print head moves. The uniform horizontal color strips were printed as uniform color strips.
I think Wendell has gotten significantly better at making videos lately. He's always been informative, but not always the most entertaining to watch of the team... However, this was actually interesting and enjoyable to watch. He managed to somehow make a 10 minute video of a fucking inkjet entertaining. I think that says a lot about him.
As a Sysadmin this is a really interesting product, and I appreciate getting someone like Wendell's view on it. I love the HP Colour Lasers we have deployed, however I find shopping for them is an awful experience. HP if you really want to get your products out there then dear lord fix your awful website, and I don't mean another UI to get lost in. I mean proper detailed information and structuring your models properly so I can find the right size of printer and then go through and pick whether I want the DN, DW, DWE, or whatever! Stop treating them like they're all unique models!
Good morning, I'm trying to finish the installation of a PageWide Pro 477dw that I removed from the box, but the toners that came in it have already been used and I'm putting a new one but new and original but it keeps asking for the SETUP cartridges or those that come with the printer, how do I have a way to skip this part and use another toner without this setup?
I didn't even know this sort of tech existed. I always figured inkjet was a little head moving back and forth. Interesting they have a full page width injection technology. However, I'm sure the cost of the ink is astronomical. What are the industry standard price per page rates for color and B&W laser?
Can you help me with the HP printer Hp PageWide Pro 477dw MFP for scan to network folder. I'm unable to setup in iMac. And how can I find a network path for the shared folder.
Ultra Sound Well thats not what I meant. Someone actually got Doom to run on a printer and used the screen of it to play they game. I think it was a Cannon printer but I could be wrong. The textures were a complete mess, but it worked
Now that you guys have HP's ear, maybe try and get your paws on the HP Elite X3 phone. It looks pretty interesting as far as x86 mobile devices are concerned.

I can't believe I just watched an entire Tek Syndicate video about an ink jet printer.
+Dave L I know, but it was good. If I ever buy a printer, I'm getting this one.
I'd stick with laser. You can get decent laser multi-function printers pretty cheap these days.
+Aaron Harris you can do the same with toner, although it can be much more complicated than refilling an ink cartridge :/
I can vouch for this printer. We have a 476, which uses similar technology and in the past year we have beat the crap out of the printer with big print jobs and it still runs like it's new. It's actually running better than a lot of our lasers.

this printer is a beast i used to sell these things at my old job and i have to say this is about the only inkjet printer i truly liked.
We've been using Page wide HD printers in my office for nearly 2 years now. The cost per page is lower than our old Kyocera Colour lasers and we've had no problems with them at all! Good video.
JBloomfield1990 still working? Whats the number of total pages printed so far? (Black, color, duplex?) thanks

Never thought a printer video would be so interesting. Good video!
That's a pretty neat design for a printer.
I use the last gen prox 570dw by HP with similar specs. up to 80k pages printed, 15k duplex pages. so far the only issues are literally a couple paper jams. very easy to use. would completely recommend . we print about 25k-40k pages a year. would buy again or newer model if it ever dies.

Damn, that is legitimately the most badass printer I've ever seen.
Never would have thought I'd be admitting something like that, but there it is.

holy crap that prints fast
Wendell's approach makes this interesting to watch from start to finish
I've never heard of Pagewide before. That's cool!
Thanks for the video Tek syndicate, I probably buy this next time I need a printer.
This was interesting to think about. I'm really shocked that the pagewide idea hadn't been done years ago! As much as I've had ups and downs with hp (I had a laptop that broke a month after the warranty, but I also have 2 monitors that I've had forever), if they came up with this, my hat is off to them.
Very similar to a model we have at work. They're pretty damn good!
Loving the Wendell vids, can't get enough of him.
Wendell was the right man for this review. Awesome job - I'll be buying this printer on your recommendation, for small business needs.
I remember the big boxes for the HP Laserjet 4 and 5-sI series... oh yeah.
This is a sick printer for an inkjet! It would be cool to see this kind of tech keep Inkjet going - the problem is the high ink cost and shitty printer quality. Time to turn that around.

Not bad.

A really great review, the speed is amazing, I've never seen that full page technology. Just a quick question, how is HP's Linux support for this printer? Thanks.
+Jim Watts If I had to guess, I would say pretty good. I have had a lot of good experiences with HP printers in Linux.
The most important question is does it mark the pages with invisible dots?
Seems perfect for printing dank memes!

refillable ink tanks and ultra low-cost replacement inks, like Epson's EcoTank series printers? Thx~
I just picked up this printer and its as good as he stated in this review.
wow, the speed is awesome!
than you for your review, does duplex on legal size paper?
What is the difference between this and hp officejet pro x576dw?
interested to know how long the ink carts last, or if they will dry up over time.
such a huge printer I expected C13 on the back.
get ready 2 c more print heads since jayz2cents is also going to review a printer I think hp is going around feeding these channels with printers
I can't seem to find the supported paper sizes on HP's site. I need to keep looking for a A3 Large format printer myself.

I guess you have tried this printer for some time, and does the nozzle clogging happen and is it really as cheap as laser small business laser?
Duplex printing and scanning, but automatic? (i.e. not within the software)
I had an Ink Jet from HP several years ago. Now I have just a monochrom laserprinter from Samsung.
I wonder if theyll make a new version of this...
we've had one for about a year and it works quite well. No issues to report. works well with Linux too...via hplip.
How do you use manual feed to print? I set it up, but it doesn't work.
Absolutly reasonable. Nice!
Really funny that I bought one of these for £100 this morning! hahah
pretty cool printer actually... but can you root it in the future?????
John de Lancie, I do love it when Wendell works in some star trek.
Is there a preference air print or usb connection?
I have this printer and I have dust/dirt underneath the glass - how do you access this area to clean? It shows up when copying
Can you help me with the HP printer Hp PageWide Pro 477dw MFP for scan to network folder. I'm unable to setup in iMac. And how can I find a network path for the shared folder.
Hopefully Home Depot sponsor a few videos so we can watch paint dry
+UXXV
Watching paint dry is an actual profession.
I can see them turning off wireless and wireless detect so fast but keeping near infrastructure mode
How do you load legal size paper in the tray?
2:52 close your eyes and listen
can you commend what is the difference between the old model OfficeJet Pro X476 dn and this one?
Make it play doom. I know its possible.
+IdealIdeas100 By printing 60 pages a second!
Ultra Sound
Well thats not what I meant. Someone actually got Doom to run on a printer and used the screen of it to play they game.
I think it was a Cannon printer but I could be wrong.
The textures were a complete mess, but it worked
pffft, real gamers play on paper. ;)
I'd love it if Wendell were to jack with the OS to do some funky tricks. It might be. UNIX based OS.
Now that you guys have HP's ear, maybe try and get your paws on the HP Elite X3 phone. It looks pretty interesting as far as x86 mobile devices are concerned.
I have hp pagewide 477dw but it has printed few copies and the print head is already faulty
yep we got one of these demos from HP aswell, why not hey.
What happens when you get ink smudging after a couple of years? bin it?
I'm trying to change the cartridges and I'm having problems.
Can it print if one cartridge has depleted, and the others still has ink?
remember guys this printed wireless.... from his phone. hahaha we love you wendell
