    I've had a Rex 121 Mako for years. It's a great edc fixed blade and Gary is one of the few makers crazy enough to offer that steel.

    I've had my Magnacut Mako for a little while now and I bloody love it. Disappears into the pocket and comes out ready for hard use.

    I have one in 3v, and i love it. Might need a Magnacut one too because I have a problem 😂 careful with the clip on the sheath though, its a danger to car doors

    This is a really hard area to make a knife in, IMO.
    I mean, the Bradford Guardian 3 series exists. So does the Spyderco Mule (although, those are hard to get) for steel nerds.

    That knife will draw a lot of envious and admiring glances when my fellow Montana Yellowstone Club members notice it dangling from the pocket of my Orvis corduroy slacks. They Ii be pestering me to cut their salume sampler plates.

    I can speak for maryland laws, if it has a pocket clip that is exposed on the outside of your pocket it is not concealed. As far as I know most laws work this way

    • @johncoursey2582
      @johncoursey2582 Год назад

      Idk where you got that information but you can legally conceal folding knives all you want. You can technically OC a fixed blade but unless you're using it for work/hunting I probably wouldn't. Some local laws are stricter.

    This blade is perfect for the person in the trades who uses knives beyond apple slicing. Folders can easily be out of their weight class with that hinge. Also easy as hell to lose a folder, lot harder to lose a fixed blade. Just my 2 cents.

    Interesting to see Nick set out for a near self-described Quick Shabazz review, and then 20 minutes later, when he realizes he just described one of the greatest cutting tools of his storied review life, a folding blade guy is talking through reasons to get many of the same fixed blade (like I used to for PM2's - "I have S30V. Now I need 20CV, oh yeah Cru-Wear, and then the BHQ M4 one...oh crap - they're dropping a Rex45 next month in copper..." etc. This Mako blew my socks off - one of the greatest knives made.

    I was able to get one of the Knife Center exclusive Cruwear Makos in stock for around $250, its the only fixed EDC I've found that I'm good with carrying. As for the location of the blade steel marking, I normally don't like billboarding on my blade, but since Gary Creely is a knife nerd (and so am I) it kind of makes sense that he wanted the steel type to be more prominent.

    Not that it’s anything one couldn’t overcome, but many a great knife has had the enjoyment of it diminished by a sheath that doesn’t suit the owner. For what the sheath is intended for it likely works well but I’d never carry that way. Love my small fixed blades but I’m more comfortable with it on my belt.
    Winkler Knives make some exceptionally durable & well designed sheaths for several of their models.

    Interesting knife. If I were to buy one I would have a kydex sheath or a stiff plastic insert to protect the user from being cut/stabbed. I know people who were stabbed by their leather sheathed knife when hunting.

    Seems to have borrowed the design and name from Gavic?

    • @Creelyblades
      @Creelyblades Год назад +3

      Seeing as I had to google Gavic to learn it was spelled Gavac is a strong indicator I had no knowledge of either their history or design, but I have been making my Mako for 5 years. That Gavac Mako and my Mako are pretty different designs also. I named it the Mako because I thought it looked a little like a shark. Case has used that name since the 70s (it's a buck 110 type knife), although I did not know that until I had been making them for a few years. Neither the name or the design is borrowed.
