I know Kurdistan, where I was twice. Those dogs you saw when you were camping are dangerous. Normally they are used to help shepherds in the camp. They are bigger than common dogs. Some of them live in the camps without owners. So I must tell you had luck because they didn't attack you.
Stunning country. I can see why you like the country and the people so much.
Indeed, wonderful landscapes, and incredible hospitality, despite the looming conflicts, it's some kind of tourist paradise.

nice trip! I rode a recument trike, no motor, from Italy to Iraq, really Iraq, Kirkuk, Kerbala, Najaf, Nasria, Basra, and beyond. I went to the Arabian Penisual, then Iran, AFGHANISTAN, and then I cycled back to Italy across Central Asia, Russia, Georgia, Turkey and Europe. 16 months and 30.000 km!!

I was in Erbil for a few years and the sad part is they are richer than two of the iraqi states next to them but still they are lore corrupt and their infrastructure is old. The only part of the city is equivalent to east erbil. I feel bad for those people, their government takes all there money and uses it for then selves. I once drove past the president's guest house. It was as big as three American football fields
