  • One of the greatest stories of survival in history. In 1914 Sir Ernest Shackleton set out to be the first to cross Antarctica from sea to sea via the South Pole. Disaster struck when their ship, Endurance, was stuck in ice and broke up. What followed was an amazing story of courage, endurance, leadership, navigation and survival that has never been surpassed.

Hi Geoff, I have been going through your presentations, mainly the sea explorers, La Perouse - brilliant, and up to now I thought I had seen, heard and read everything concerning Shackleton but your presentation about him was absolutely superb. Towards the end when you got emotional, I already had tears in my eyes and I’m an old hardened geezer. Have often thought about who would I like to have a beer with : Christ, Napoleon, Shackleton, Judas, Chaplin etc etc. and have always concluded that that would be a waste of a beer as I can read all about them and don’t think they would have the inclination themselves. Well, as of today I would have a beer with you any day, no irony intended. Unfortunately, as far as I know, there aren’t many cruises sailing through the Czech Republic where I am based so we’re both out of luck. … I would do a video about your channel, the only problem being that all my subscribers are Czech and Slovak and most don’t watch English language videos but if you ever do one in Czech, I’ll be happy to send you loads of subscribers. Many thanks for the various hours that your lectures have entertained and given me new insights. Keep up the great work. All the best to you and your family. Pete

Shackleton is a villain not a hero. Every one of his decisions proved to be wrong not to mention the only reason he pushed ahead was to escape responsibility for an affair.
If it wasn’t for the captain Worsley they would all be dead.
Shackleton wouldn’t even let them collect extra food when it was possible and then they almost starve? Shackleton was an adulterer, loser and a buffoon that did his best to get people killed nothing more.
