Porter greetings! ❄️ Kurt, the main thing is that you don’t make the same mistake twice…the next time you park your truck for a bit, make sure you empty the air tanks, clean it and repair whatever you need to repair. 🧐 I like watching every step of a filter change, so never mind the nay sayers! I’ve done the fuel filters both ways…with and without a wrench. The main thing is that they don’t leak when you’re done. Take it from the Canadian driver…put a hot box/APU on that beast! It just might be worth it! I do hear that they are so handy and will save you some fuel, but it takes a bit to install! So, have you made up your mind on it by now? Mmmmm…pot roast…I like pot roast!🥰🥰 Now that would make your truck smell real ice if you were slow cooking some of that! 🍞 You couldn’t wait to take your dinner break! As always, quite good stuff! 🤩 There’s a lot that I’m missing and I’m glad that you’re reminding me of those things? I would almost need to ride with someone for a bit if I were to get back into trucking right now. Well, that’s my thought on it. 🧐 Get some good rest and enjoy the trip back home! 🥰🇺🇸✌️
Yeah Canadian know how deal with cold snowing weather. Well most of us do hah. I know this video is one month old now. But Alberta gets most it’s worst weather from jan to early March. Stay warm and say safe :)
Wished I had known you 10 years ago, my grand parents lived and are buried in Mapleton. Up the hill in cemetery there. I have been to that town a million times. Grandma lived east of the old John deer dealer, corner house, huge yard, garage off the alley, up the hill
How about a fresh salad and a Tune fish sandwich. Healthier and better for you. Hope that poor dog is staying warm. It looks cold out there. Maybe buy a electric blanket for the German Shepard. Still can’t understand why they have not switch to electric brakes.
Ahh, yes... Ice in the air system. What fun. After several years of fighting that every winter season, I decided to piggy-back TWO alcohol sniffers after the air dryer on the tractor and added two more sniffers on the back of the sleeper for each trailer airline (one sniffer on each airline) and I became religious about draining air tanks daily with the help of my trusty propane torch.
Kurt home is very important. However First Class needs your time also. Show her some love she will love you back. Remember she is your bread and butter. She feeds your family. The key is to find the balance. Another good video. Uber Dad rocks!!! Take care and safe travels. 👍👍👍🇺🇸
Those that complain about filling the fuel filter before putting it back on have obviously NEVER sat and pumped that little knob before. I'm with you, put fuel in the filter and save yourself a little fustration, plus, it won't hurt a thing! Keep up the good work!
By the way Kurt....I like your background music in this one....also when you do the Bluegrass style. I know you can't play Waylon, Merle or the Eagles but you do a good job in your selection!.... Two Thumbs Up!!!

Hi Kurt, Troy, Dad & Opie. What a great vlog. The time off the road with family gets away from you. Sure you wanted 2 get those things done & you had full intentions of getting them done but it was cold. Next time get those things done 1st then the other stuff 2nd. I know, easier said then done. Exspecially when it is cold winter weather. Have a blessed night & we'll see you next time 4 sure. Stay safe & warm. 💕🙏🏼
I remember living in Illinois years ago and air tanks freezing , we had a large heated shop to let trucks set inside during winter , its a pain I know . feel sorry for you Man .
Make working on the truck a family thing. Teach your son how to change filter and switch etc. When he and you feel comfortable pay him to do some pm's for you. You can even teach your daughter i did mine working around the house etc. You might find that they enjoy working on the truck and spending time with you.
Hey Kurt, Great video as always :) As for been a trucker from the northern part of Canada. Truckers run a air brake alcohol evaporator. So just have to open it up and pour the Air Brake antifreeze in. It keeps your lines from freezing. then you don't have to crawl under the truck to put the stuff in the air tanks. We usually start putting that stuff in around late Oct.
In the old days before air dryers, we would drain all tanks, then we'd put 2 quarts of air guard in the first air tank after the compressor. Then leave it in there for 2 weeks. Only thing that could freeze up is govenor. Worked great ! When dryers came out used to change cartridge every fall and still put air guard in after dryer. Just the ramblings of an old O/O. U hang in there
I'm the pig farm kid, i think being 19 in America ur still just a Kid/child, but here in Canada we are Adults. I been seeing how most farmer spend winter, they feed their animals and are inside their houses by 10am and sit around til spring. We 2 twin Kids work from 6am til 10pm 7 days a week just so our animals can feed the world. Being it is winter our hogs don't care they just want to be fed and its the same year round.
There is a pressure protection valve that supply’s air to the leveling valve mounted on the air tank that may be stuck .It is a bad idea to use a radiator winter front on the radiator , it will shut air flow off to the charge air cooler . The cooler will not operate efficiently throwing hotter air into the intake manifold to the combustion cylinders .
My last OTR truck was a 93 Freight shaker classic XL long hood, big bunk, 460 kitty with an 18spd. I was in Oklahoma, got fuel, and was headed back home to Pa. about this time of the year. Pulled into a rest area, went to bed, and woke up cold...hmm. truck isn't running anymore...hmm. tried to start, nope. Got out, about 0 degrees outside. opened hood, did a visual, nothing suspicious, went to look into my fuel tank, Unscrewed the cap and the t-bar on the bottom of the chain was cutting a slice up thru the fuel! GELLED SOLID. Service truck came out, called for his wrecker, and towed it to his shop, I got a motel room. 4 days later and a service bill of $3400, I got my truck back with everything good again. Okla gets cold, I just "assumed" that their fuel was cut or conditioned...nada. Expensive lesson learned.
Home time is important, the kids will be moving out before you know it! Thanks to your Dad for being your taxi! Safe travel to you & Opie! Opie doesn't look fat, just maturing!🐾🐾

Truck looking good , You're dad looking like a happy camper good for him , For sure put diesel in your filters don't be an IDIOT and do not do it , Well the problem is with the pumps , You have 2 different kinds of pumps , You have a pump for hot weather to pump fuel and you have a pump for the cold weather so it will keep pumping the fuel faster , They are built more commercial , but a lot of people don't know that , Opie looks like hes in a downer 😂😂😁 be safe take care yourselve kurt
Thank you so much for your honesty and excellent video content. As a dad and pawpaw, I would say this. There will always be things to do on the truck and around the house. There will always be things that need to be done but spending time with your family and making those precious memories should never be overshadowed by anything else. I have been in the ministry 43 years and I have officiated many funerals and never once did I have any family tell me they wish they had worked more. Of one thing I hear is that I wish we had more time that we could’ve spent together. Not to be negative or morbid but sir you’re doing a great job. Don’t get down and for heaven sake’s don’t let it get you down.
I guess it is time for an alcohol sniffer bottle aft of the air dryer. You just gotta keep the bottle full. As for cold weather nights, I used a Carrier APU for 17 years. They weigh about 500 lbs, but they will keep the engine, fuel and bunk warm in winter AND the bunk cool in summer. It runs on the diesel from the truck and it is a 2 cylinder Kubota engine. Well worth the 10 grand the company spent on it. It paid for itself in two and a half years in fuel savings. Opie thinks to himself, I have to work on my levitation skills.
I have also noticed that little Bud is growing up 😊, and yes a set time to do maintenance is a must , as you know at some point the shit will hit the fan all at once 😭.you always pre-fill a fuel filter . Sagged travels Guys
