Do you have a favourite ship spotting location?

24 knots is service(Cruising speed) or maximum speed????🤔🤔

I believe it’s rated maximum. She does around 21 when I’m aboard.

Auckland - watched Queen Victoria swing round and back in to the cruise dock! The cruise ships have to get in on one side of the ferry area.

Excellent , another great port to see cruise ships perform this maneuver , though in a much tighter port , is at Puerto Vallarta , Mexico. Thanks for this video, Chris. I love the podcast.

The Sandringham Yacht Club windbreak is a good place for ship spotting in Port Phillip Bay as is St Kilda Beach. Growing up in Tasmania I always used to like the point near O'Possum Bay, and the Mount Nelson Signal Station.

Great view from the Sydney Opera House forecourt. Cruise ships have to be in Sydney before the 6am ferries leave. So I’m not able to be there that early to see the 180
Their departure is still great viewing.

I was on this ship sailing into Juneau, Alaska back in 2019. We did a similar 180 turn and slipped in sideways to the dock, neatly fitting between other cruise ships. I was on the rear deck at the time and I reckon there was only about 20 feet to spare at the stern! Magnificent seamanship.

Great video. I've been on the even longer Queen Mary 2 when doing the 180 degrees turn as part of the docking procedure at Fremantle. It's absolutely awesome to experience when on board.
So very much looking forward to embarking Queen Elizabeth in December 2023 for the Melbourne-NZ-Melbourne cruise but we've got two Silversea cruises in the meantime. It will be sooooooo good to get back to ocean cruising.

@@ChrisFrameOfficial Thank you for that - it brought back great memories. The QM2 voyage my wife and I were on with the 180 at Fremantle was M403.2 in 2014 - Cape Town to Melbourne. That voyage had some excellent guest speakers including Sir Max Hastings, Sir Jackie Stewart and ... drum roll ...your good self (Freo to Melb).

Excellent video. We're boarding on Friday on our first cruise since March, 2020. Not happy about mask-wearing but at least we'll be on board.

Fantastic. I guess Need a very experience captain to do this. Chris, can you talk about the propulsion on this ship and if all cruise ships are capable of this 180degree rotation or is it just Cunard ships?

Great idea. I just did a video about the propulsion of the old QE2. Will have to put the new ships on my to do list.

Never liked the look of these floating apartment blocks, but then you see the car carrier in the background...
