Police have cancelled pop sensation Justin Bieber's only Australian performance after several young fans were crushed in a waiting crowd overnight.
About 4,000 people had camped out since 6pm on Sunday ahead of the 16-year-old Canadian's concert in front of the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Sydney's Circular Quay.
Bieber was to sing three songs on Channel Seven's Sunrise program this morning in what would have been his only gig Down Under.
But whispers the star had arrived early forced a crowd surge about 2am.
Crowd surges continued over the following hours, crushing and trampling some fans - mostly teenage girls.
A number of people had to be treated for minor injuries.
Police said they were forced to cancel the gig because of safety concerns.
To keep his fans happy, Bieber performed one song at Seven's studio in Martin Place.
Fans gathered there after walking up from Circular Quay.
