I think what k love the most about your work is you add bright colors and glitter and fun where as an adult I always feel like I’m supposed to be neat and unglittery. Keep on enjoying your art and inspiring people people and ME ♥️♥️♥️
Listen being real and showing us “fails” is what brings us back! Because we have projects that don’t work out, too! You went on to create the quasi-essential houses, absolutely adorable arrangement! Blessed holidays!🏠🏚️🏡🏘️
I struggle with the pieces I paint also. Over a year ago, I bought a chunky, heavy dresser at an estate sale. It was in a garage and screamed potting shed to me. I saw it with flower molds and butterfly’s on it. I blended it, applied the molds, put bugs and butterfly transfers and stencils on it. The more I did the less I liked it. I abandoned it in the garage for a year. Finally, I got it out, finished it up and put it in my booth, mostly because I wasn’t going to waste all the time and effort by taking it apart. It got a lot of attention and sold the quickest of any decorated dresser I’ve made, for full price. The thing I’ve learned over the years of crafting is that I will often think something is not good enough because it doesn’t match the picture I had in my head. Others don’t have that picture though and they love it for what it is. I’ve had to trust this many times and let something go in my booth other than what I wanted. I guess it’s the perseverance thing. Push through, stop doubting so much and trying to make things perfect for me.
I just had a cool idea! Im not sure if it works. But apply Marie first and then paint the whole cabinet, including over Marie. and then with a palletknife or whatever scrape or distress the paint off to reveil Marie, like a secret layer that has been exposed. Might be cool 😊
I like the IDEA of butterflies with Marie, but they just seemed to clash with her pastels and the cupboards brights. Maybe you could try a wash over the butterflies to bring them down a little, then a bit of glitter to make their color match closer to the project 😊
i love the pink and green on the jewelry chest, and your tiny houses. (and omg you are brave having your under chin done!). also, as a portait artist, i too take failure badly, thinking my artist mojo has taken the train to somewhere else when i can’t get a face just right. i think it’s the bane of being creative.
It must be so rewarding to be a portrait artist. I have always wanted to be able to paint faces and whenever I see vintage portraits at the thrift store I buy them if I can afford them❤ The mental battle😂 is a big part of being creative.
Curious if you water down your paint will it act like a transparent watercolor? I discovered steeping a black tea ( lots of tea bags) will give you a nice antiquing color. Using the tea bag papers is also a fun paper to use.
Elle don’t let anyone tell you you need to cut your hair short. It is beautiful just the way it is. My older sister made me get my hair cut in grade 8. It was just like yours, same colour as well. It was the worst mistake I ever made.
You are very active with surfing so I'm sure tying up your hair comes in handy, just trim the ends, Elie's hair is beautiful and a great color , you remind me of a childhood friend named Roxie, think she is now a Doctor like her Dad .
Precious little houses. Thanks for sharing. Pretty much obsessed with little houses, have them out of paper in my junk journals, and out of fabric for my quilts.
Do you always want to craft every day? You always surprise me with all of your creativity. Everything looks great, even Marie, if you put wax paper underneath the tissue would it give you more control as you apply it down? Almost like a release paper.
I wonder if you put a layer of your spackle paint on a piece of wax paper then roll your little trees on the paint it will just grab the ends of the ( spackle) paint.
🎄⏏️*️⃣🌟The little houses turned out so cute! I just love your creativity and use of color, you are always such an inspiration Debi.🩵Too bad I don’t live closer, I would love to come to your store and take a class or two from you. PS> I thought the jewelry cabinet was coming along nicely, and loved the butterfly touches. I will be watching for your redo, I’m sure it will turn out beautifully with your talent.
I’ve know how you feel Deb I have projects sitting and staring at me . 🙄side note I would love to come to your home and be surrounded by bright beautiful color . lol still white and beige here in NJ so annoying 😂
Debi your little Christmas village came out really cute. When I would sew as a child when I would mess up like on the zipper I would throw the whole thing away. My sweet mom would dig it out of the trash and finish it for me. Some times you have reached your end and you are done. I know the feeling all too well.😅

Wood squares with old screws or nails used as legs and other finds can become reindeer or any other animal.

If you put wax paper over what you are collaging and use a brayer you can avoid wrinkles
