If you make the eyes only open to like 90% instead of 100%, it would make the characters seems a bit less crazy and would give you an easy way to add in the surprised emotion by going to 100%.
It would be brilliant after all this, the original creators bought this or teamed up with him to get this released. Be such a shame if this wasn’t released to the wider public. Been a great watch from the start.

There is a guy named El Gato del Tejado that’s doing his own remaster of the game, however he’s hand animating the cutscenes. I think combinding his cut scenes with your game would be amazing. It’s worth a check.
I’m glad you toned down the saturation of the grass, it’s much better now. Although, the character models are incredibly saturated looking too, maybe toning them down too would make them easier on the eye.
I believe Reubs is reminding us constantly that only he has the file and that he will never release it, so that the devs approach him when it's finished to release it officially rather than as a fan project. Looking at his replies to some of the other comments here it wouldn't surprise me

When the dialogue is in the character’s head you should make them look up in space, like the eyes look up alittle. It would make it easier to read that it’s being thought not spoken. This is so incredible so far, I can’t wait!
Even if it isn’t released to the public, some of the original devs need to get together in a “documentary” style video and play the game or review the graphic’s because I’m sure they would be blown away and that would be a killer video, I’m sure they’d love to take part if they haven’t already heard of you!
I doubt it would be that easy to get the rights, although there's always the option of asking whoever owns the rights how much it would cost to buy it, and if the amount if somewhat reasonable, start a kickstarter or something to see if you could raise that amount.
You can also add random dialogues for the npc so when you try to drive past them or walk past them you will hear the npcs speak. You can also add extra dialogues for for the character on random circumstances such as when you hit a wall your character starts cussing or screaming.
This is so amazing man, you’re recreating mine and my brothers childhood! I remember blindfolding eachother telling the other one how to drive and where to turn. It was our chaos but our fun. Thank you Reubs!
Looks like the floating phone above the car selector doesn't get affected by the depth of field modifier in conversations. Also I feel like the jumping looks a little bit floaty but otherwise this is so amazing you and the people helping out have been able to put this together so quickly and make it feel so authentic it's really cool!
Really loving this series, just one small thing about the video process itself. If you put your webcam over to the left side, or flip it, it will look more like you're actually looking at what we're looking at instead of off into the distance. Facing away draws the focus away, just a small detail that can take these from 100% to 110%

Absolutely loving this series!! A very small thing that's pretty menial, the power plant parking lot seems a little empty, parked car spawning throughout the map could be a nice addition

I’m incredibly impressed with all you’ve achieved so far! The climbing of Mr Burns’ mansion reminded me of how fun it was using the jet pack in GTA: San Andreas, maybe that’s something you could implement alongside other “cheat codes” once you’ve finished the game
Seeing the game without post-processing has made me think you should try toning down the post-processing effects a bit, give it a slightly more natural feel. Some sort of middle-ground
The line effect cheapens it for me, and the colors are too harsh. The green grass needs to be warmer in hue. Would love to just see a good color grade with the improved models and global lighting. With just a small amount of motion blur to make the shutter speed more pleasing, like you would see in a Pixar movie.
Just make sure if you put a collector card on Burn's roof, it's NOT the trillion dollar bill. From all we've ascertained from satellite photos, it's NOT on his roof! Amazing work! The only thing I can think of to make it better is if the church had its windows. I always thought it was so weird the church was missing them as a kid. ......I was a weird kid. 😅
The problem is none of the cars in his version of the game have any sort of suspension, its actually the opposite of "floaty" all and any bumps send them flying. The original game all the cars are a lot more rolly and soft.

I am loving this series :) one potential upgrade I think will help the feel of the game loads is somehow upping the car weight? Not sure how that would be done but just making the cars feel a bit heavier like the original games would be great
@@--dave a bit like bumper cars yeah, I think the cars need re-texturing and re-designing too to be more cartoony. Obviously might be good to get rid of the awful ps2 janky car physics from the original game but some added weight, car damage w the Easter eggs hidden in the trunk like the original will help them fit in the world much better. The original cars almost felt like they were going to topple over sometimes which is part of the charm

You should add a thought bubble over Homer's head whenever he's thinking something. Some people may think that it's a bug instead of him actually thinking about his dialog.
Always loving these episodes. The worst part about making this series public is that Reubs probably has to read a thousand comments about things he already has planned out, like "Maybe you should [increase the quality in any way] on [random asset picked in the unfinished asset hat]!"
For the minimap, add different icons for the quests. Like, for the generators, add a generator icon on the map, or a different colour. Same with other missions
Those blinds drawn behind most of the windows still bug me, but everything else is shaping up to be simply sublime. We've come a ways away from the first episode. Keep up the great work, friend.
Even if this can't be released to the public, what you said about friends made me think: let speed-runners for hit & run like Liquid Wifi playtest it. They'd be trusted not to leak and since they know the game in and out they'd be able to provide a ton of feedback.
This is exactly the type of thing I imagined would encourage a major corporation to collaborate with a smaller creator. Like ????? This is insanely well done work by such a small number of people who actually care. 👏👏👏👏

For the voice lines that Homer thinks rather than says, you could play his thinking animation (if he has one? I think he does in one of the earlier mission dialogue cut scenes if memory serves) Edit: the Smithers mission when Homer is talking to Lenny
The racing and following missions are especially impressive to me as someone who uses UE regularly for level design. Placing props in and making blueprints like "touch glowing item to complete objective" is one thing, but being able to get vehicles with physics interact with and/or avoid other vehicles while flexibly following a path is absolutely mind-blowing to me.
Good work man, can't wait to see more ! Are you planning on adding a "Depth feathering" on your particles (specifically glowing/star particle around 3D models like objectives items, phone logos...) to prevent them from clipping into the model ? Anyway, love your videos ! Keep up the good work !
Two things, if you can, improve the driving and performance of vehicles so they are more in line with the original game. second the part where the snow is coming out of on the plow king spins while you accelerate and only spits out snow while accelerating. At least thats how I remember it.

You definitely need to add the arrows on the road during missions instead of the clamped marker tbh! That's why your friends didn't know where to go when they play-tested for you
I love this series so much. You motivated me to create my own remake like you of my favorite "old" game in Unreal Engine 5 even if I know much less UE than you and I can't rip all the game files correctly so it's going to be complicated but I never give up on my goals.
My thoughts as well. It looks really good without post processing, increase contrast/lighting a little, and add standard anti aliasing (to solve jugged edges at a distance) and it's gtg.
I thought the same thing. Also to me the original still looks better but I can't put my finger on why. I thought maybe it was the camera angle but after seeing no post processing I think it might be something with the colours/lighting.

I played this game so much when I was younger with my brother. Struggled a lot with some of the missions and I’m still afraid of the wasps lol. Those bubble ones are pure nasty… just like the real things.
I really like the progress so far Reubs. There are some things that you might not have noticed that need improving though to feel closer to the original 1. The NPC’s in the original when you got close to them in the car would stare at you and if you drove too close, they would play an animation trying to swerve out of the way and other times, would jump out of the way. I believe this is missing here. If missed, it wouldn’t match the hilarity of the original. 2. Some animations from cutscenes are missing. 3. Some objects upon being smashed don’t play their proper animation, after being smashed, they just vanish. 4. The plow King in the original actually sprayed out that stuff when driving. 5. Some music is in the wrong places during some missions. 6. And finally, other NPC’s are lacking their audio cues. Would be nice if you added them. I’m really looking forward to seeing where this goes and I hope you get this finished. ❤
I hope if this gets far, you also add new, never seen before content like side missions, car customisation, clothing and cartoonish weapons that can be used against a springfield PD, with a wanted system akin to GTA. That would really bring this into the current gaming market and benchmark, and just be an incredibly fun experience. This has SOO much potential
A new reubs remakes the Simpsons video is like a new SummoningSalt video; I drop everything, clear my schedule, and watch the entire thing immediately.
I definitely think you should tone some of the post-processing down, I get the sense it looks slightly better without all of it, even though it's flat. The lighting is just too bright and the colors too saturated, it feels like the sun is three times closer to the Earth.
It’s been such a journey watching you out this together the last few months. Keep it up! Wish we could all play this but watching you make it is the next best thing!
Once you have it made to where you think it’s done you should schedule a date where you are going to tweet it and let everyone know in videos before hand, and have everyone retweet and @ the original creators and see if they will allow it to be published

Absolutely loving this project so far and I would love to give some suggestions to help with your project. 1) If you haven't done so already, looking into getting the wanted system would be interesting to see. 2) Adding the main playable characters to spawn randomly around key areas would be interesting too, but ensure Bart doesn't spawn in during Lisa's and Marge's level for the storyline. 3) Introduce a Stunt Jump system where there is an additional completion tasks or perhaps a stunt camera bonus. 4) Achievements. Whether it's missions, completing a level, the possibility are endless.
This looks better and better every week! I would say I still find something off with the visuals. i.e. at 16:28, Homer almost looks 2d because he's all one color. I think the colors are just too blown out?
Amazing series, one tiny thing that makes me twitch is the 'Stop' signs. The red sign used to break off the pole when hit. But ignore me, my OCD is kicking in, great work, my favourite videos on RUclips at the minute

You've came a long way on this & you have just recently finished & configurated ALL of Homer's Missions in the first Level & is prep for doing the next 6 Levels & the missions for each of them. Can't wait to see you do Bart's Side of the Missions in his Levels & vehicle alters to help fit in for Bart's side of the Map. And with what you have done here in fixing up all of Homer's Missions, you should be able to fix up Bart's & the rest in no time! Good Luck to you, Reubs.
The no post-processing version with a more vibrant (without over-doing it) color grade, anti-aliasing etc would be much better overall. Currently the line effect and overly saturated colors make the game feel somehow less fun than the original. Sometimes less is more. But definitely the improved models and lighting rendering would make it better- but post processing should be handled with care, as too much can ruin a good thing.
You should definitely make an option for the more toned down saturation and brightness. The version without post processing with a little tweaking would look SO good!
Great remake so far. I only have a few suggestions: 1) Perhaps toy with giving characters outlines or putting shadows under their noses. You'll notice both Marge and Mr Burns's noses get lost in their faces when viewed head on. 2) It's probably on your to-do list, but The Fat and the Furious mission spawned in a door onto the power plant so you can't cheese the mission and take the shortcut to the rich part of town. 3) Homer's workstation probably needs it's old fixed camera back as it's unappealing staring at Homer's backside while he's talking at the start of Blind Big Brother. 4) I hope you'll be adding the old coin collection animation back in at some point, where instead of just disappearing as you walk into it, it bounces and flies into the character. Other than that, It's super impressive, can't wait to see what's next.
I preferred the look with post-processing turned off. Definitely gave me nostalgia vibes. But I realise mentioning it brings up the ‘how should it look’ debate again 😅

Love the no shader aspect that you got xD but I've come here to leave this video for you ruclips.net/video/5sawTzJ1PiE/видео.html he was learning therouting for the speedrunning, and I think that this shows very much the key gameplay aspects of the game, of how it works, because it dissects pretty much of how it performs, and glitches and stuff, so take a look, and it might give you hints of how to make the most accurate (gameplay feel) if you want

Yeah good point. The game is just too shiny, and it's not supposed to be that shiny. A middle ground between those 2 would be nice.

The handling of the cars is always one thing that's continuously bugged me each episode. They feel too light and floaty.

never played the game but seeing the whole thing be remastered is incredible
+1 on preferring how it looked without the Post processing - so nostalgic with the original! It’s a tinnny bit to flat and dark but with minor tweaks would be closer to the original feel 👏 this is sick hahaha

I do get what you mean though with it being a remake and being able to make it look super detailed so they should. Because yeah the original is arguably more detailed in some textures weirdly.
For the voice lines that Homer thinks rather than says, you could play his thinking animation (if he has one? I think he does in one of the earlier mission dialogue cut scenes if memory serves)

The racing and following missions are especially impressive to me as someone who uses UE regularly for level design. Placing props in and making blueprints like "touch glowing item to complete objective" is one thing, but being able to get vehicles with physics interact with and/or avoid other vehicles while flexibly following a path is absolutely mind-blowing to me.

Are you planning on adding a "Depth feathering" on your particles (specifically glowing/star particle around 3D models like objectives items, phone logos...) to prevent them from clipping into the model ?

Two things, if you can, improve the driving and performance of vehicles so they are more in line with the original game. second the part where the snow is coming out of on the plow king spins while you accelerate and only spits out snow while accelerating. At least thats how I remember it.

You definitely need to add the arrows on the road during missions instead of the clamped marker tbh! That's why your friends didn't know where to go when they play-tested for you

Make the plow king vehicle have its own button for spreading salt, and have the salt leave a mark - then you can draw while driving!
I love this series so much. You motivated me to create my own remake like you of my favorite "old" game in Unreal Engine 5 even if I know much less UE than you and I can't rip all the game files correctly so it's going to be complicated but I never give up on my goals.

My thoughts as well. It looks really good without post processing, increase contrast/lighting a little, and add standard anti aliasing (to solve jugged edges at a distance) and it's gtg.

I thought the same thing. Also to me the original still looks better but I can't put my finger on why. I thought maybe it was the camera angle but after seeing no post processing I think it might be something with the colours/lighting.

I played this game so much when I was younger with my brother. Struggled a lot with some of the missions and I’m still afraid of the wasps lol. Those bubble ones are pure nasty… just like the real things.
I really like the progress so far Reubs. There are some things that you might not have noticed that need improving though to feel closer to the original
1. The NPC’s in the original when you got close to them in the car would stare at you and if you drove too close, they would play an animation trying to swerve out of the way and other times, would jump out of the way. I believe this is missing here. If missed, it wouldn’t match the hilarity of the original.
2. Some animations from cutscenes are missing.
3. Some objects upon being smashed don’t play their proper animation, after being smashed, they just vanish.
4. The plow King in the original actually sprayed out that stuff when driving.
5. Some music is in the wrong places during some missions.
6. And finally, other NPC’s are lacking their audio cues. Would be nice if you added them.
I’m really looking forward to seeing where this goes and I hope you get this finished. ❤

I hope if this gets far, you also add new, never seen before content like side missions, car customisation, clothing and cartoonish weapons that can be used against a springfield PD, with a wanted system akin to GTA. That would really bring this into the current gaming market and benchmark, and just be an incredibly fun experience. This has SOO much potential

I definitely think you should tone some of the post-processing down, I get the sense it looks slightly better without all of it, even though it's flat. The lighting is just too bright and the colors too saturated, it feels like the sun is three times closer to the Earth.

Somehow this series has been incredibly entertaining to so many people that know absolutely nothing about game development, a great insight.
Once you have it made to where you think it’s done you should schedule a date where you are going to tweet it and let everyone know in videos before hand, and have everyone retweet and @ the original creators and see if they will allow it to be published

Absolutely loving this project so far and I would love to give some suggestions to help with your project.
1) If you haven't done so already, looking into getting the wanted system would be interesting to see.
2) Adding the main playable characters to spawn randomly around key areas would be interesting too, but ensure Bart doesn't spawn in during Lisa's and Marge's level for the storyline.
3) Introduce a Stunt Jump system where there is an additional completion tasks or perhaps a stunt camera bonus.
4) Achievements. Whether it's missions, completing a level, the possibility are endless.

This looks better and better every week! I would say I still find something off with the visuals. i.e. at 16:28, Homer almost looks 2d because he's all one color. I think the colors are just too blown out?

You've came a long way on this & you have just recently finished & configurated ALL of Homer's Missions in the first Level & is prep for doing the next 6 Levels & the missions for each of them. Can't wait to see you do Bart's Side of the Missions in his Levels & vehicle alters to help fit in for Bart's side of the Map. To me, it looks better without the post-processing.
The no post-processing version with a more vibrant (without over-doing it) color grade, anti-aliasing etc would be much better overall. Currently the line effect and overly saturated colors make the game feel somehow less fun than the original. Sometimes less is more. But definitely the improved models and lighting rendering would make it better- but post processing should be handled with care, as too much can ruin a good thing.

You should definitely make an option for the more toned down saturation and brightness. The version without post processing with a little tweaking would look SO good!
Having a locked third person pov will make the game feel much more polished 👍👌
Great remake so far. I only have a few suggestions:
1) Perhaps toy with giving characters outlines or putting shadows under their noses. You'll notice both Marge and Mr Burns's noses get lost in their faces when viewed head on.
2) It's probably on your to-do list, but The Fat and the Furious mission spawned in a door onto the power plant so you can't cheese the mission and take the shortcut to the rich part of town.
3) Homer's workstation probably needs it's old fixed camera back as it's unappealing staring at Homer's backside while he's talking at the start of Blind Big Brother.
4) I hope you'll be adding the old coin collection animation back in at some point, where instead of just disappearing as you walk into it, it bounces and flies into the character.
Other than that, It's super impressive, can't wait to see what's next.
I preferred the look with post-processing turned off. Definitely gave me nostalgia vibes. But I realise mentioning it brings up the ‘how should it look’ debate again 😅

Tbh i prefer the way it currently looks. But an option in the settings which would allow it to be toggled would be the ideal solution here i think

I believe that in the original hit and run, there are event triggers that makes the ambient lighting darker when you enter the power plant+stonecutter's tunnel, and bright again when you go outside
