I remember when the days were long, And the nights when the living room was on the lawn. Constant quarreling, the childish fits, and our clothes in a pile on the ottoman. All the slander and double-speak Were only foolish attempts to show you did not mean Anything but the blatant proof was your lips touching mine in the photobooth. And as the summer's ending, The cool air will put your hard heart away. You were so condescending And this is all that's left Scraping paper to document. I've packed a change of clothes and it's time to move on. Cup your mouth to compress the sound, Skinny dipping with the kids from a nearby town. And everything that I said was true, As the flashes blinded us in the photobooth. Well, I lost track, and then those words were said. You took the wheel and you steered us into my bed. Soon we woke and I walked you home, And it was pretty clear that it was hardly love. And as the summer's ending, The cool air will rush your hard heart away. You were so condescending. And this is all that's left Scraping paper to document. I've packed a change of clothes and it's time to move on. And as the summer's ending, The cool air will rush your hard heart away. You were so condescending, As the alcohol drained the days. And as the summer's ending, The cool air will rush your hard heart away. You were so condescending. And this is all that's left The empty bottles, spent cigarettes. So pack a change of clothes, 'cause it's time to move on.
It's amazing how many artists I discovered all these years from an AV Undercover performance. This was the first time I ever heard of Julien Baker and I was hooked immediately.
This version was how I got into JB like years ago, thanks for the reupload. Anybody notice though she doesn’t need the lyrics, shows how big of a fan of Ben she is. Check out her cover of “Nothing Better” if you haven’t yet
A couple of years ago I listened to this cover after my dad shared it with me. He knows I love Ben’s music deep in my soul, but this cover revived me in a way I could’ve never expected.
I love this because I can hear Ben Gibbard's unique voice in my head as she sings every line, but it also tonally fits so well with Sprained Ankle that it feels equally from Julien Baker as well.
It's now been years that I've come back to this performance in moments of helplessness, delirium, uncertainty, in the troughs of this human experience. Somehow, each time, by the end of these 5 minutes, I am left with a feeling that itself cannot be described into words. Only that I know beyond any doubt, in the same way we know things in our dreams without being told or described, that the warmth that emanated from that room, the unconscious guiding of her fingertips and effortless fluttering of the folds of her throat, is a thing that is not subjected to space and time. It radiates beyond the language of years and miles. Because as I watch this video, I was there. she is here. so are you. And whatever it is, it's here with us.
Death cab fan boys are unable to think objectively. This is waaaay better than the original. The original is bland and emotionless. This is how this song should've been performed in the first place
@@AudibleVisibIe This song is about moving on to something better and more successful , but still nostalgic of what was left behind. Her whole tone and tempo takes away from the original meaning of the song,.
@@cadredeux1047 if the narrator were truly over the muse then he would not still be singing about her. I’m not buying what Gibbard’s performance is selling. It’s not lost on me that he wrote it. Baker’s downtempo and emotion is still a better artistic execution of a very well written song
@@tanujak98 That phrase doesn't do anything, that's just a dumb youtube myth. It doesn't matter what you write, a copyright violation is a copyright violation.

i clicked a julien baker cover of death cab for cutie's "photobooth" you really think i was ready for that intro
Holy crap, yes...I think my ears are bleeding.
This
I love this version but god I hate that intro
This was my gateway into Julien Baker. Damn that voice crushes you.
Same, after accidentally seeing this, I was hooked.
this cover gets better and better the more you listen to it. love it
I've packed a bag but I can't move on. She has my heart, I don't want to live without it.
She's a tiny, tiny person, so soft-spoken, with a strong voice and strong feelings. Great guitarist as well.
Preach!❤
YES THANK U FOR REUPLOADING
Word. I was dying for this to come back.
I'm on the keto, try it. It's great 👍
ditto!
It's amazing how many artists I discovered all these years from an AV Undercover performance. This was the first time I ever heard of Julien Baker and I was hooked immediately.
First song I heard from her too.
I love so much that she chose my favorite DCFC song as the song to cover. Wish she had done a studio version of it.
I'm just happy we have this version
This is one my favourite death cab songs too.
She needs to do a covers album with this and "Accident Prone" by Jawbreaker

Listening in 2021. Through the tears, thank you.

One of the best solo performances of a cover.
That moment when the cover is better then the original!!
i like the original but DAMN what Julien did to this song... just.. it's heavenly and also fits perfectly with her voice
I love this because I can hear Ben Gibbard's unique voice in my head as she sings every line, but it also tonally fits so well with Sprained Ankle that it feels equally from Julien Baker as well.
Thank you for finding and uploading this! I was so sad when it was taken down and I could no longer find it!
*immediately downloads in case it's taken down again*
It is on SoundCloud too
Where on Soundcloud? I've been looking for it for months! I saved it awhile ago and it got taken down
Auburn Kelton why was it taken down?
She's just wonderful
True talent..makes my heart melt every time. ...

Her voice combined with that song is so beautifully crushing
I'm glad this got re-uploaded. I went looking for it a while back and couldn't find it.
This woman’s voice will forever bring tears to my eyes. Dammit, Julien. You really know how to pull at the heart strings. One love girl, thank you.
Man, I forgot about this one. What a cover!
This song makes me want to make a breakup movie just so I could play this song over stabbing images of a painful human breakup scene.
fucking LOVE that telecaster!!! MMM MMMM
Death cab is my favorite group. Love em. Great cover
watching and listening to Julien play makes me want to get a telecaster and learn to play.
If you like chicks playing Telecasters, check out the band Now, Now.
Do it. The current model Indonesian made Squier Affinities are very affordable and well made.
Go for it, I've played mine for 20 years and never looked back.
I’ve been hoping that this video would make its way back to RUclips. I’ve missed it so much!!
She could cover Tiny Tim's "Living in the Sunlight" and it would still be devastatingly beautiful.
She’s so talented!
THANK YOU for saving this! I couldn't find it anywhere on their channel
I love the fact this was uploaded on my birthday. New fan here.
Thanks for the re-upload, you are a life saver
Sounds like the soundtrack of a movie in the same vein of 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.'
Julien Baker is amazing!!
An amazing cover
Great song!! So well written, great job of bringing it to life in your way. Much Love
Blown away !!!
wow. beautiful cover.
House of Blues....Boston cant wait to welcome you, Julien!!!!
I almost forgot this is a DFC song. She did so damn good with this.
Thank you for the reupload. This cover means the world to me :)
Fuck i love julien and this cover!!
Thanks for sharing this Tanuja. Well done! You inspired my simple tribute that hopefully comes out well too. Like!
I still hear ben in the back of my head when I watch this. Great cover
A true gift!
She's adorable :3
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!
She just through it out there, alone, wow, great video
Being young was awesome, but i did not enjoy it as much as i would like. This song, especially this version, reminds me that.
Love it!
wow incredible voice
Great cover
MAJIK
Back after a random memory of this cover
Here I am again… lol
She is amazing....
Perfect.
amazing
Just like Johnny Cash, She made this song hers, I’m a huge death cab fan but this is far better than the original one, sorry Ben.
Yup, took a good, well written song, then turned it into something of her own, it's amazing.
no way!!! it's good but the original is gold
definitely not on par with the death cab version. Nice voice, but the vibe is 150% wrong.
@@Smoothbrain69 the vibe isn't wrong, it's different. great covers are supposed to be made their own.
@@mike50591 Tell that to Johnny cash. Made it his with out bastardizing it.
Seeing people sitting together without masks is so foreign now. This timeline sucks.
Holy crap! amazing
Hugzz Julien!
I get chillz every time i here this version.
Dang this is really nice.
Real shame this isn’t on iTunes
Bravo!! I bet Ben Gibbard watched this and was impressed
Hat's off for this one, honourable choice. Love the sheer innocence you have
so clear...
Is it on Spotify?
The close up and medium shot cameras are fine, why do the overheads and low angles look like they were shot on a camcorder from 1994?
lol yeah
Better than the original.
Oh... MY GOD. 1:56 just TOOK. ME. OUT.
Y
When the cover is better than the original...
Nah, she wasn't creative enough to come up with it
Not nearly.

I hate when videos have a loud fucking intro. Great performance though :)
sorry about that :(
@@tanujak98 I blame the AV Club. It's nice to see it re-uploaded regardless. 😋
This is so much better than the original
Did she start the video by saying "thanks for giving me some of your office time"?
awful video intro (and closing) exploding in my headphones, guys! But thanks for the video... _ /\ _
Devastating lyrics x

its kinda like if you took Billie Eilish and added talent
better than ben gibbard
I have the biggest lezzie crush on this roaring pixie. I wonder if she dates T-girls. Don't answer that. Let me dream.
sorry ben, her's is better
jesus can someone buy her a noisegate… Beautiful voice though
I wish I had such a good girl like you , incredible, poignant, you're so so gorgeous...
you’re disgusting
