Ford is very clear in the manual that the MKX and Edge is nor designed for off-road. The AWD system is pretty capable on the streets as it sends as much as 50% of torque to the rear axle, but it does not have the suspension articulation to be effective off-road. Continuous off-road use like this will overheat the center power transfer unit as it was not designed for this type of duty.
lol you are telling me? I am the owner of that MKX and got a nice Christmas surprise of $1700 dollars to replace the PTU as it did overheat and the oil turned to grease. I am "told" the new updated one will not do that and have been trying to get it to fail again under warranty haha. No luck yet, but still trying
I was gonna say. Apparently, it wasn't well designed for on-road use either. I'm surprised it wasn't recalled when they are burning up disabling these cars left & right. I just bought a used Edge, but not without the certified preowned 7-year powertrain warranty. lol
Obviously you posted this a long time ago, but as a previous Ford tech i can tell you, that even on-road the PTUs fail because they only hold half a quart of oil and are right next to the hot catalytic converter. They have no fluid change interval and in fact don’t even have a drain plug. I’d recommend having them suck the fluid out and and putting in new at least every 50k if not more. And some times if the only issue is it leaking out of the top vent - this happens because the fluid has cooked - you can get away with a fluid change and the leak will stop. Just did that to a used one i picked up with almost 200k on it.
Great video, thanks for sharing! What size are the BFG KO2's on the Outback?? Do you experience any rubbing, or did you have to do a spacer lift?? Looking at getting an Outback soon!
+J Ponderosa 245/65/17 on factory wheels. No Rubbing, 2" lift from Anderson Design. Although, according to Subaruoutback.org it wouldn't rub even if it was factory height.
Truck and the Subaru had 2 inch lift kits. That helped because they would have both been stuck in the ditch and on the hill. Also, the MKX weighs more than the other 2 which helps in some situations except mud. I've never had my MKX get stuck. I also know how to drive. This guy seems scared of momentum.
Over all how does the Lincoln do in the snow? I am in WV too and was wondering how it does when winter rolls around. I will be using all season tires though.
My MKX has all season tires and I'm able to stop in the snow at an incline and take off with no slip. The guy next to me slid down the hill. Ford has had superior 4W and AWD technology. It took a few years for other auto makers to come close
Hey Bruceyyyyy....thanks for the great videos on the Outbacks capabilities. We just bought a 2016, and excited to take her out. What hitch are you running on your Outback? I apologize if I missed the info in your other videos. I just ran across your posts and trying to work back on videos to watch then all. Thanks!
+Kelly Asada Thanks for watching! I have a lot of fun with these, glad other people are enjoying them. The hitch is a Torklift brand ECO hitch. Built specifically for the 2015/6 Outback.
The Lift didn't effect MPG noticeably. Maybe 1 MPG highway. The tires did, however. With the KO2's I only get about 27~28 Highway (from 31~33). If I take a trip, I think I'll actually run the street tires to save on gas. Unless I plan to off road while there.
Ford uses the 3 wheel system and has for decades. Sure when not needed it only running 2 but tell me why when I bust a donut with TC off, both my back tires spin and I can fish tail?? Besides that u get 2 wheel up front with a rear assist or 2 wheels spinning in the back with 1 in the front helping. As 1 tire slips it transfers the power to the other non slipping tires
Ford makes a solid awd system. I’m sure if it had the right tires it would keep up with that outback.
Great videos!! It's cool to see average trucks and SUVs testing the offroad capability!!

It had snow tires on it! This isnt rocket science lol.

Glad i did my research before buying one! (Ford Edge)

I'm surprised the MKX weighs more than a pickup truck. Neat.
Wow I bet that 2 inch lift makes that outback a beast!
Thank you for this great video .. very appreciated.
awesome video Bruceyyyyyy.
Awesome video!!! The MKZ did well, but you could tell it was out of its element.
Over all how does the Lincoln do in the snow? I am in WV too and was wondering how it does when winter rolls around. I will be using all season tires though.
Pretty good. Friend has snow tires and he mostly uses this one as a snow and utility machine.
@@bruceyyyyy Thank you.
I have the ford edge version. All wheel drive. Did great in 6 inches of snow at mount Charleston NV during a snow storm last month!

+bruceyyyyy Thanks for the info. I'm gonna be out in the Seattle area in the next couple weeks, and think I will have to stop in and visit their shop.
Lincoln tires is not to off-road, and they ned to change the driver for this car!) Why he twisted the wheels to the right the end of video?
Cool video
Best off road test of the Edge/M I've seen so far!
Thanks! It does better than anyone wants to give it credit for.
@@bruceyyyyy yea no doubt. I'm curious how it compares to the Ford explorer now though lol
Find me one and I'll send it. (:
Is there audio with this video???
Yes.
i couldn't tell.
What's the mpg difference with the lift and K02 tires?

😂🤣 Drop your air pressure !!!!
subaru is the best
I saw that...
00:24 lesbian hahaha
Pretty sure the owner of the Subaru was the one driving that POS Chevy when it finally made it up the hill.
the lincoln isnt a real awd drive its a front wheel drive syst with a bit of power to the back when needed
The haldex system puts 50% max to the rear, just like on my MKS. But it is front wheel drive based, correct.
It has intelligent AWD so it sends power to the tire(s) with most grip
Pretty sure the owner of the Subaru was the one driving that POS Chevy when it finally made it up the hill.
Lol put the same tire on the lincoln more traction will help
Mormal tires on Lincoln and BF on Subaru...
If you would like to purchase BFGs for the Lincoln, I will happily re shoot this video.
Subaru is the best
Snow tires to go off roading?! 🤦🏾♂️
